Alpha Lucas's house is a magnificent display of opulence and grandeur. It boasts three glorious stories, each adorned with exquisite marble flooring that sets the stage for the entire residence. The ceilings reach lofty heights, with dazzling crystal chandeliers casting a shimmering glow upon every room. Every nook and cranny is meticulously decorated with captivating statues, and the walls are adorned with breathtaking paintings by renowned artists from around the world. As I'm escorted to my room by the servant, Omega Lina, my eyes widen in awe, taking in the sheer beauty of this lavish abode.
"Omega Lina, please take over Adam from the doctor's weary arms so she can finally rest," Beta Jenson instructs the servant with a hint of urgency.
I gently pass Adam into her capable hands, but he lets out a thunderous cry that echoes through the halls, prompting me to reclaim him in my embrace. Only then does this charming baby settle down. We attempt the handover multiple times, yet the outcome remains unchanged. Adam wails inconsolably whenever I release him from my nurturing hold. I'm perplexed. What could be the reason behind his reluctance to be held by others? And how on earth am I supposed to take a shower or answer nature's call?
"Please bear with us, Doctor. Perhaps Adam hasn't found his comfort zone just yet. I'll seek Rose's assistance to join us in this room and provide you with a change of clothes. Please hold Adam once again for a little while," Beta Jenson pleads, his eyes reflecting genuine concern.
Within moments, a statuesque and enchanting woman with radiant brown skin enters the room.
"Darling, I rush here as soon as you link me," the lovely woman says, her lips finding Beta Jenson's for a sweet kiss.
"Hello there, I'm Rose, Beta Jenson's better half. And who might you be?" she greets me warmly. I reply with a smile, instantly drawn to her magnetic presence.
"I'm Kaylie, a human who finds herself reluctantly immersed in the world of wolves due to this handsome little one who refuses to part ways with me, to the extent that I can't even use the bathroom in peace. Looks like I'll have to borrow a bottle from you since I'm dying to pee," I confess, crossing my legs in desperation.
Rose bursts into infectious laughter upon hearing my predicament, her mirth filling the room.
Beta Jenson blushes, stepping back a bit as he says, "I'll leave you two. Rose, please assist Doctor Kaylie. I'll go check on Lucas in his room. I'm genuinely worried about him."
"Okay, dear. Leave this nice human girl to me. I already love her. She is very sweet," Rose says, once again kissing Beta Jenson's cheek and looking at me with her beautifully sparkling eyes.
"Can I call you Rose?" I ask her after Beta Jenson leaves the room. "I really need to pee. Is there a baby carrier so that I can unbutton my pants and go to the bathroom? Please, help me. I don't want to pee here."
Rose flashes me a warm smile, her eyes filled with understanding. "Of course, you can call me Rose. We're already friends, aren't we? Don't worry, I'll be happy to assist you. Come on, let's find a baby carrier for Adam so you can unbutton your pants and go to the bathroom. Peeing here is definitely not a pleasant option!" Rose responds, her voice filled with humor and genuine concern.
Together, we search the room for a baby carrier, finally finding one tucked away in a corner. "Ah, here it is!" I exclaim, relieved.
"Now, let me show you how to secure Adam in the carrier. It's quite simple, really." Rose patiently guides me through the process, demonstrating each step with a touch of lightheartedness.
With Adam safely nestled in the carrier, I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much, Rose. I don't know what I would have done without your help. Now, I can finally answer nature's call!"
Rose chuckles, a playful glimmer in her eyes. "No problem at all, Kaylie. Helping friends in need is what I do best. Just promise me you won't get lost in there, okay?" she teases, causing both of us to burst into laughter.
I'm really relieved now. I release all the water that I've been holding since our long journey. Adam looks calm in his baby carrier. He hasn't been properly dressed, poor child. I ask Rose for help in providing clothes and baby essentials for Adam. But does that mean I have to take care of him forever? Has my role now turned into being a babysitter, even though I'm a doctor?
And when I step out of the bathroom, I'm surprised by everything Rose has prepared on my bed. There are complete outfits for Adam, baby toiletries, and my own clothes with toiletries, and the most amazing thing is that Rose also provides makeup for me. However, I've never worn makeup before. Makeup isn't in the budget I have to allocate because my scholarship money isn't enough for it.
"Rose, you're incredible. It's like you can read my mind. All those things I'm thinking about in the bathroom, but when I finish, all I need, especially for Adam, are already fulfilled. Thank you."
"No need to thank me, Kaylie. You've sacrificed to care for and protect the child of our alpha. You bring him into this world, and though I'm saddened that Luna Leah can't be saved, you're amazing for saving her baby, and now he's so attached to you that he doesn't want to let go of you."
"Yes, I'm also puzzled. Why doesn't Adam want me to let go of him? And why doesn't he want anyone else to hold him? What if he continues like this? What should I do? I'm a doctor. Do I have to change professions and become a babysitter for this handsome baby?" I say while kissing Adam's cheek affectionately.
"Well, being Adam's babysitter wouldn't be so bad. I'm sure you'll be the highest-paid babysitter compared to other top doctors. Lucas would definitely pay you a lot if you're willing to take care of his child," Rose says with a smile.
"Hmm... So that means he doesn't care about his child. He'll just pay someone with his money to take care of his child. Parents shouldn't do that. The child needs love from their parents," I grumble in frustration.
"Do you know, Rose, Lucas hasn't even held his child since he was born? He only looks at Adam with his sad eyes. I can't understand why there's a father like that," I continue, annoyed.
Rose gazes at me with her beautiful eyes. "Give Lucas some time, he's still grieving the loss of his wife. I'm confident he'll grow to love Adam deeply once his sorrow subsides."
"I hope so too, but I can't help feeling doubtful. Lucas hasn't even asked about his son's name. I end up naming Adam myself because Leah doesn't have the strength to do so. It's just heartbreaking to see him like this," I confide in Rose, my voice filled with a mix of sadness and frustration.
As I cradle Adam in my arms, a thought crosses my mind, and I imagine what he might say to his father if he has the words. Speaking in a soft, tender voice, I pretend to be Adam, asking the question that weighs heavily on my heart. "Daddy, do you love me?"
