After my family made absolute sure that the Volturi was gone for good we retired to the confines of the home that belonged to our cousins the Denali's. Since my mothers truck had been destroyed in the fight we had only one way to get there and that was to run.
Like old times I sat, snug, against Jake's russet body as we ran through the woods. The moon was beautiful in its harvest yellow color that set in the Alaskan night sky. I couldn't help but smile as I knew that this was truly the beginning of our lives forever. We could now live happily.
Ten minutes later Jake came to a stop near the edge of the woods. From where we stood we could make out a brightly lit home and vampires arriving here and from different points of the property.
Jacob knelt down and I knew this was where he wanted to let me off so he could phase back to his human form and dress. Before I headed to join my mother and father in the house I hugged him tightly.
"Mom, dad." I smiled as I reached their side.
My father looked at me and I saw a wave of emotions roll through his face. Confusion, sad, shock, happiness and then finally relief. I understood where that came from as I had just been thinking about my drowning incident that failed to kill me.
Silently my father pulled me into his arms and held me. "I love you Renesmee." he murmered. He released one of his arms and then pulled my mother into the hug. "I love you both more then anything."
When he released me my father pulled out a hankerchief from his pocket and handed it to me. Of course I was crying. Taking the hankerchief from his hands I dabbed at my eyes.
"Damn emotions." I murmered.
"Renesmee!" My father chastized.
"I'm sorry daddy." I apologized for my foul mouth and then blushed.
He in turn smiled which confused me until he explained that my mother blushed whenever she felt bad about something or embarassed. Then my stomach began to growl reminding me that I had only had a grilled cheese sandwich since I left the island. I needed food.
"We can't stay long." My father said to Eleazar. "My daughter needs food as well my niece and nephew."
"In that case my and the family shall make a visit to Forks quite soon as I presume that is where you will be returning yes." Eleazar replied.
Carlisle was at our side now and I couldn't help but hug him.
"Actually-" Carlisle began as he wrapped his arms around me. "-I think we will do just that. Atleast for the next year."
Heading inside I looked around in awe at the decor. It was more outdoorsy and woodsy then anything I had ever seen before. Unlike the upscale plushness and elegance that my family decorated the house in this was taking luxury to a whole knew level.
The furniture was made from many different kinds of woods. Upon looking closely I could tell that it all was handcarved and manmade. The carpets weren't carpets but skins from animals; lions, bears, cougars, even a cheetah skin. Hanging from the ceiling in the living room was a elk hork chandalier. Everything was so magnificent.
After several human minutes of gazing around the house I finally had my fill and took a seat on my fathers lap. No matter how old I would get I would always be his baby girl and this would always be my favorite place to be. In his arms.
"So you don't think the Volturi will try again?" I heard Rosalie ask. Across the room, the several small conversations stopped and everyone's attention was on her. I guess like her, they all wondered the same thing but didn't want to be the one to break the serene feelings we had just acquired after a long war. "I mean when the Volturi really want something they don't give up."
"Rose, not now." Carlisle said. One didn't have to have uncle Jaspers gift to be able to feel the emotions in the room go south. "It's been a long day."
"No I need to know whether or not I need to be looking over my shoulders everytime I take my children out. I want to know if they are safe." Rose snapped.
"Yeah, me too." My mother agreed. She took my hand into hers. "I need to know if my daughter is in danger."
My aunt and mother looked at Alice waiting for an answer that didn't come. Unexpectedly it was Zelda who spoke up.
"No one knows about time do they?" She said as if this was a common sense like breathing, walking, eating. "Really, no one at all." She sighed and then rose to her feet. "You see one can't change something that was meant to happen, meant to be but they can prevent it from happening which also stops the future after that."
"So what are you saying?" My mother asked, determined for more answers.
"What I'm saying is where there is death there will be death." she said.
That was the exact same thing that Alice quoted to Aro when she confirmed what I had 'lived' through in the future.
The room was silent. If possible, more quiet then before.
"Butterfly effect, chain reaction. Doesn't anyone understand what I am trying to say?" Zelda seemed more annoyed at the fact that she was the only one who understood the ultimate of the situation. After she took a breath to steady her mood she continued. "The last time Aro tried to attack your family why did he not go through with it?" She asked.
"Easy." Emmett began. "Because he saw what Alice saw and turned into chicken shit." he said before laughing.
"Yes. And why did he stop the second time?" Zelda asked again.
"The same reason." This time it was Jasper who spoke.
"It was Albert Einstein who said insanity was doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. That is what I am trying to say. You can't change the path of a destiny but you can take a different route." Zelda finished.
"Aro had an eipiphany." my father said. "He know's that if he kills us he kills himself. His will to live is extremely off the charts."
"So no threats or suprises in the future?" Emmett said in a pretend sad voice. "Life is sure going to get boring. I mean what am I supposed to do play house for the rest of eternity. Booooooring!" he joked, resulting in a punch in the shoulder from Rosalie.
"Mom I'm tired and dirty and hungry. Can we pleeeease go home!" Penelope begged.
Rose got to her feet and Emmett joined her quickly.
"Yeah we should get moving. If we leave now we could be there the day after tomorrow." My father replied. That means I can tvo Thursday night football. The Ravens are playing the Bronco's." he added before lifting Penelope onto his back.
"I can walk dad." Penelope murmered before stifling a yawn.
"Two-thousand miles?" He questioned sarcastically. "Yeah right. You'd probably trip and fall and complain about grass stains before we got out of the backyard." he laughed.
I was in my fathers arms and heading outside the house before I was set to my feet.
"Can we see grandpa Charlie when we get home?" I asked, a grin on my face from ear to ear.
My mother laughed as she rubbed the small of my back.
"Of course we can."
The youth in me was threatening to burst and soon suceeded resulting in me jumping up and down like a child who was promised a toy of their choice. This amused my father and mother.
"Okay now Ness, if you are anything like your mother was as a human you should stand still." My uncle Emmett teased as he walked out of the house with my cousin Penelope on his back.
"Thank goodness she didn't inherit my clumsiness." My mother said to my father.
Rosalie and Matthew passed us following Emmett to the woods before they took off. Carlisle and Esme were the next to leave followed by Alice and Jasper. It was only myself and my parents left. And Jake.
"Dad... can I ride with Jake?" I asked as he joined our side.
"And where have you been?" My mother asked him.
I could smell the scent of animal remnants on his breath. He had been hunting.
"My stomach couldn't wait anymore so I may have killed a rabbit, an a squirrel." Jake replied.
"No you didn't, you had a elk!" I said a little too loudly. "And you didn't invite me."
"It was more of a spur the moment thing Ness." He said. I could tell from the way his voice was lacking tone that he felt bad.
"I was kidding anyways I eat human food these days. Lack of blood resulted in lack of cravings." I said before turning to my father who had yet to answer my question. "Dad?" I called again.
When I turned to look at him I noticed him staring at me, awkwardly. Every now and then he would look at Jake and then back to me. What was on his mind? Hearing my thoughts my dad shook his head. He knew what I was going to do.
Reaching forward I rose my hand to his cheek and willed the information from his mind. He didn't resist which mean he didn't want to tell me but he also wanted me to know.
I saw myself with Jake we were holding hands. Then we were kissing.
"Dad. I'm not going to kiss Jake so stop worrying." I chuckled.
"Wait what!" Jake said, his voice full of shock. "Woah, Edward man I told you that I don't see her like that. Just because she looks like a woman now doesn't change that. I need to adjust. I still see her as the little girl I laid my life down to protect." He explained in one breath of air.
"I know Jacob and I respect you for that. I'm worried about the inevitable that will eventually come. All relationships start somewhere." My father replied. He turned his head to me. "And Renesmee, I'm your father its my job to worry."
