Chapter 14

I still couldn't believe that my Jake had died for me. He truly did love me and for that I knew I had to do everything I could in order to make sure his death wasn't in vain. He had said my parents were still alive so that was my next move. I needed to make sure they stayed that way. Rising to my feet I allowed my eyes to sweep across the battle field to try and locate them. The first sight my eyes fell upon was my grandparents, Carlisle and Esme in a double battle with two vampires I didn't recognize. Then I saw Leah and Alice fighting what looked like Jane. How could they fight Jane without feeling the wrath of her power. Then it hit me, my mothers shield. She had to be nearby. Running through the field of ashes, vampires and werewolves I stopped. Something happened and now Alice and Leah were in pain. Frantic I searched and searched until I found the problem. There in the arms of Felix was my mother. She was on her knees, arms pulled back. Felix was about to execute her. No! "Mom!" I screamed as I ran as fast as I could. I could see the pain in her face as they began stretching her. Then I jumped onto Felix's back and began hitting him with as much strength as I could find. Still it wasn't enough to hurt him but it was enough to annoy him. "Let my mother go!" I screamed.Almost as quickly as I had said the words he dropped my mother and then grabbed my and threw me to the ground. I bounced once and then skidded to a stop."It's me you want. Take me and leave my family alone." I said in a breathy voice. My father was at my mothers side, hovering protectively over her with a snarl threatening to pass his lips. I don't think they knew it was me or maybe it was instinctual that he protected my mother who was in immeadiate danger. "Ahhh look who has returned." I heard Aro's eerie voice speak. I turned my gaze to look at him and gulped. With trembling limbs I rose to a stand. I couldn't let him see my fear. "It's me you want right? Well I'm here now and I promise to come willingly with you as long as you leave my family in peace." I said firmly. "If you don't I will kill myself and all will be lost." Of course I would never go to such extremes but it was worth a try. "That is where you are wrong dear girl. You are one of the many things I have come for." Then his eyes fell upon the battle scene before us. "Guards, wives.... sieze and disist." he ordered. Everyone of the Volturi members stopped their fighting and joined in ranks behind their leaders. Once they had stilled my friends and family did the same. I watched carefully as everyone joined. It took less then twenty seconds and I knew why. We had suffered great loss. From the wolves I counted atleast five heads that should have been there. One being Jake another Embry and then three of the newer members. From our vampire friends, almost all our new additions were gone and half of our friends from the last battle. From my own family members I saw two heads missing. Rosalie and Jennifer. Both the twins stood beside their father, Matthews expression was grim and Penelope was in tears. Behind the broken trio stood my grandparents, Esme held Carlisle's hand while his free hand was on Emmetts shoulder. Beside Esme was Alice and Jasper and on Carlisle's other side was my parents. Their eyes wandered to me immeadiately and then they grew wide in shock. I could see their minds going to work, trying to process why I looked like this. I even imagined my father penetrating my mind to make sure it was me and not an imposter. But it was me and I was here and I was no longer a child they could make decisions for or protect. It was my turn. This was my stand. "Mom, dad." I whispered. "Please don't be mad at me." I said before turning towards Aro. "Renesmee, no!" My father shouted. "What is she doing?" My mother questioned as my father held her in his arms. I already knew he wouldn't allow her to jump in because the Volturi would kill her and he couldn't bare losing both of us. This must've been Emmetts reasoning for holding back. He knew Rosalie would want him to act for the children rather then avenge her death. "She's giving herself up." Was all my father said. Closing my eyes I took a deep breath to settle my nerves and then walked the twelve feet to Aro's side. When I stopped he grinned causing me to flinch. "My, my don't you look." he paused, giving his lips a lick. "Appetizing." "Take me already." I replied. Aro's eyes lifted off of me and looked over my head in the direction of my family. "Decisions." he said. I narrowed my eyes. "What more do you want Aro." I heard my father shout. "You killed my sister, most of our friends and are taking my daughter. Will you ever be satisfied?" Aro's grin grew wider and he closed his eyes as if in a pleasant thought. When they opened again he looked fierce, angry, bitter, violent, crazed. "Haven't we been through this before. It's not just the child that I want." He hissed. His eyes seemed to focus on something in the distance. Turning around I saw his eyes fixated on my mother, my father and Alice. "No, you can't have us. Matter of fact you can't have my daughter either I won't allow it. Renesmee, come." My father said as he beckoned me to his side. I turned and looked at Aro and then back to my father. Making up my mind I turned and ran as fast as I could to the shelter of my family. When I was standing before my father and mother I quickly turned around to face the Volturi. "What's this?" Aro demanded. "You can either kill us or let us be. Knowing you I know the latter is what you will choose so in saying that we will fight and take as many with you as we can." My father said. The look on Aro's face couldn't have been any harsher. "Kill them." He said gently and then everything went to hell. I saw my mothers focus grow and knew her shield was up and protecting us all from the powers that would render us helpless. Both my grandparents quickly fell into the fight, Alice and Jasper following. The wolves and the remainder of our friends right behind them. "Matthew, take your sister and run. Keep her safe okay." My uncle Emmett said. "I love you both more then anything." Then he turned and ran straight into the center of the fight, beheading one vampire and ripping the arms off a second. When this fight was over which of my family members would be added to the list with Jennifer and Rosalie. How many more of our friends would die and which wolves would never return to the Reservation. In the next second I heard a yelp as a wolf was tackled and pinned down by a vampire. This wolf I recognized as Seth. Not Seth! I was reminded of the memory I had of him jumping infront of Jake to protect him as my mother went for his throat. A second wolf, I recognized as Leah knocked the vampire off of him allowing Seth to clambore to all-fours. The two teamed up and tore the vampire to shreds before running off to gain their next victim. That was close! "Renesmee!" My father shouted. I turned around just intime to see Demetri lunge at me and take me to the ground. His hands were around my throat, squeezing my wind pipe and cutting off my air supply. Just as I started growing light headed he released his grip on me. Coughing and gasping for air I pushed myself into a sitting position just in time to witness Ethan ripping his head off and tossing it to the side. Then he was at my side holding a hand out to help me up. "Th-thank you." I coughed as I was pulled to my feet. He had just saved my life for the second time. The fight carried on and I watched as the numbers on both sides decreased dramatically. Three hours though was all it took before the Volturi was at its final two. Aro and Felix. They were the only ones left and I knew they knew this was it for them.Emmett and Ethan tag teamed the duo and after a short dance their heads lay detached from their bodies. We had won. Where there were screams and sounds of bodies being torn to pieces was now the crackle of fire, the sickly-sweet smell of burning vampire ashes and the dry cries that belonged to family and friends. As my family and friends gathered into a group for the last time I did another head count. We had more heads missing. Three more wolves. Five more vampire friends and Jasper. Uncle Jasper. Even though I didn't spend much time with him and there wasn't a significant bond like I had with Rosalie and Alice I still felt terrible. I could only imagine Alice's pain. I gazed around the crowd until I found her. Her expression wasn't her natural cheerful one but she didn't look sad either. There wasn't even any emoition on her face at all. It was like she was dead. Then my mother and father were at my side. Their arms quickly embraced me and held me in silence. "Mom, dad, Jacob is dead." Then a horrible cry was heard and I looked to my left. Just fifteen feet away was Zelda who was holding Samara's head in her arms. Samara was one of the dead. "No. No, no no no no...." Her dry cry continued for several minutes. 4 minutes and 12 seconds to be exact before she changed. "I can fix this. I, I can fix this." She murmered before forcing her eyes shut. I saw her take in a deep breath and her body relaxed. Then I saw him. The russet fur was a calling card. That was my Jake. Smiling widely with tears of happiness streaming down my cheeks I ran forward, forgetting about the danger around me. "JAKE!" I shouted as I entered the hot zone. The wolf froze and turned its large snout in my direction. Then a vampire dressed in black cloaks got its arms around him and there was a whimper before Jake slumped to the ground. It took so much strength for me to stay on my feet but I did. I ran to him and dropped to my knees before taking his hand into mine. "Jacob." I whispered, tears in my eyes. "Renesmee what are you doing here?" He gasped weakly. "I couldn't let you all die for me." I cried. "Your mother and father, if they saw you right now-" He began before I cut him off. "My parents still alive?" Jake nodded his head. Then Jake lifted his hand to my cheek and cupped it. I brought my hand up and held it there. Slowly his thumb brushed across my lips sending a chill through my body. His dark brown eyes held firmly to mine before another yelp that belonged to a wolf was heard. "You need to get out of here." He whispered. I shook my head. "Go." That was the last word he spoke. Then I opened my eyes. The house was gone, it lay in a crumpled heap on the foundation it was build on. A large fissure ran right through the middle as if an earthquake had happened. Trees here and there lay in splinters. Debris accompanied it. Here and there were smoking piles that I knew contained limbs of the broken vampires that had lost their fight. Who the victims were I didn't know and wasn't sure I wanted to know. Then I saw him. The russet fur was a calling card. That was my Jake. Smiling widely with tears of happiness streaming down my cheeks I ran forward, forgetting about the danger around me. Wait. Didn't this just happen? The strangest feeling of dejavu flooded my mind. Zelda. Then I remembered. "Jacob!" I screamed. "Watch out!" A vampire in a black cloak launched himself at Jake but he turned just in time to see it. With a snap of his large snout and a quick jerk of his jaw the vampire's head was severed. I let out a breath of relief as I knew my Jacob was safe. He was alive. Pushing off the ground with his large paws Jacob ran to my side and knelt down. He wanted me to get on him. Without hesitation I climbed on his back like I did the last fight and he began running into the battle. There it was, my mothers scream. Jacob began running faster and knocked my mother out of Felix's death grip. Jumping off is back I landed on all fours and wrapped my arm around my mother who was soon joined by my father. "Renesmee what are you doing here." My father growled, ignoring the fact that I was no longer looking like a child. "I couldn't just let you all die." I replied innocently. "Ah the little Cullen has returned." I heard Aro's voice speak. This time I wasn't afraid of him. Turning around to face him I looked him in the eye. "Knowing your parents and your perfect timing to the battle field I think I smell a sacrafice for the greater good yes?" He said in a hopeful voice. "Actually, I came with a warning." I said as I walked forward cautiously with my hand outstretched. "I've lived the future I know what it holds for you." Stopping just feet from him I waited. Several times his eyes flickered down to my hand and then back up to my face. Then he nodded his head and I brought my hand to his face. I watched his face grow dim as the seconds ticked by. Then all at once he stepped back. "Stop!" He said in a low but urgent voice. "Stop!" Everyone in the battlefield froze. "What is this nonsense I have seen!" He demanded from me. In the next half second Alice and Zelda were at my side. Alice quickly took Aro's hand into hers and I knew what she was doing. She was confirming what I showed him. When it was over it was Zelda that spoke. "I have the gift of altering time. I have brought us back to prevent unwanted and unecessary deaths. More so, my sisters. Before I used my gift I thought that maybe I could save more then just my sisters life." Zelda explained. "She saved your life Aro and she didn't have to. You owe her your life." My grandfather Carlisle spoke. "I don't care for killing you Aro I just want my friends and I to live in peace, forever." Zelda said. "Just know that if you don't leave in peace death will become you as you know from Alice and Renesmee." "A word of the wise Aro, where there is death there will always be death." Alice said before taking my hand and leading me back to our large group of family and friends. When Zelda joined us again Aro spoke. "I surrender." Aro said. Then one by one the Volturi turned and left. I let out a breath of relief. My family was safe. Our friends were alive, atleast the majority of them. And Jacob was with me. My Jacob was alive.
