Ch.15

I didn't hear Aaron's mouth after that. He knows I am right but doesn't want to give up his control over me. It didn't surprise me that he forgot my birthday. Since our parents died, I have had to remind him every year that it was my birthday. I was so frustrated with Aaron that I didn't want to be at the house at the moment. I walked out of my room and straight out the door. I didn't care if he was yelling at me asking where I was going. I am now an adult and I don't have to answer to him anymore. I walked down the road and when I got to the first red light coming into the town, I stopped. I looked around and tried to figure out somewhere to go. I decided to head to the little coffee shop down the street. I walked in and ordered a blueberry bagel and a coffee. When my order was ready, I went and sat down at a table and began eating. When I finished my bagel and coffee, I didn't know where else to go after I was ready to leave the coffee shop. I thought about going further into town and going to the little strip mall we have but I would have to take the bus and I really didn't want to do that. I looked around and saw the little park that my mom loved taking me to walk through to look at the flowers that were planted. I headed over to it and sat down on a bench. I looked out over the little park at all the flowers and smiled thinking about my mom and I coming here. As I took in all the beautiful flowers I noticed Caeleb on the other side of the park. I got up off the bench to walk over to him but as I got halfway across the park, I saw 2 guys walking up to him. I stopped and started to turn around when I heard one of the guys yell at Caeleb. I froze and listened to what was being yelled out. He was yelling at Caeleb about owing money. The other guy who was standing there began to move closer toward Caeleb. He reached into his pocket and I got a very bad feeling. I screamed out for Caeleb and everyone turned toward me. Caeleb ran past the guys and over to me. He asked if I was ok and I shook my head. I told him I saw one of the guys he was with reach into his pocket. Caeleb turned to look at the guys and they had taken off. He looked around and grabbed me by the hand and pulled me to his truck. He helped me in and he began driving. I thought we were going to his motel but we passed by it. I asked him where we were going and he told me he was no longer staying at that motel. I asked him why he was no longer staying at that motel and he explained those guys I saw, were the reason. I began to ask him what he meant but he stopped me and said he would explain when we got to where he was now staying. I leaned my head back on the headrest of the seat and closed my eyes and sighed. I guess this birthday is going to be like any other. Full of drama or fighting. At least I'm not at home fighting with Aaron.

"Oh, Sh*t."

"What's wrong, Skyla?"

"I need to let Jenna know I'm ok. Aaron and I got into it again and I left the house. I'm sure she is probably chewing him a new a*shole right now and is worried about me. I'm going to call her so don't say anything."

I called Jenna and let her know I was ok and I was around town just clearing my head. She asked if I was coming home and I told her I was later. She told me to be careful and have fun while I was out and wished me happy birthday. I thanked her and hung up.

"What did Jenna say?"

"She said to have fun while I'm out and wished me happy birthday."

"Oh, f*ck babe. I'm sorry. Happy Birthday!"

"It's ok, Caeleb. Thank you."

"It's not ok, babe. Today is a special day and I spaced. How did your appointment go?"

"It went good actually. I found out some interesting stuff while talking with the family lawyer. Like the fact, my brother is a total pompous a*s and has been keeping part of my actual work pay from me. Oh, and the fact my parents left money for my first car. Our lawyer said he was going to work on getting what rightfully belonged to me and he would get back with me."

"That's good. I'm glad you were able to find out the truth and will be getting what is yours."

"Me too."

We drove a little further before Caeleb pulled into a condo parking lot. I turned and looked at him. He told me this is where he had been staying since leaving the motel. We got out of the truck and walked to a bottom floor door and he unlocked it.
