Enzo It took a while but the drive home was peaceful. I relished in the silence after the hectic day I just had. Finding Laura in my bed was just the icing on the cake. I knew I had to get out of there. I pulled up outside of the packhouse, looking up at the stone building in front of me, the panes of glass in the windows glistening in the moonlight. The house used to belong to my parents, my Aunt's and Uncles all used to live here too, but as the years went on and the family grew in numbers they all moved out and built little cottages for themselves not too far from here. The pack had grown tenfold since my father's reign began. He officially took the throne 86yrs ago. Which made me the grand age of 86. However, I looked no older than 25, the joys of being a werewolf as soon as we reach adulthood, our aging slows dramatically. My parents only looked to be in their early thirties. We were a close family. My sister and I were shown so much love all our lives. It made me want to be just like my parents, find a mate and have children of my own one day. It had been a long time coming though, I had lost hope many years ago that I would ever find a mate. My father always tells me she is out there, and when I find her, sometimes we have to fight to make her mine as he did with my mother. I got out of my car and walked up the porch steps and into the house. It was barely 7 am. I knew the house would be slowly coming to life about this time. The smell of bacon hit me as soon as I opened the door. 'For the love of God, feed me will you ' My wolf sarcastically said to me. I rolled my eyes at him. He was always blunt and straight to the point. I liked that about him. Other people weren't so keen. I always remember the day I took over as Alpha, it was the day everyone inherited my powers, the ability to mind link. My mother was the one who had a closer bond with her wolf than my father did, so it was probably through her that I was able to interact with people. As soon as I was handed the Alpha title from my father, the whole pack gained the ability to mind link. My sister was the only one besides me who could already do it. Which made it fun growing up. Our parents hated that we always had each other's backs and never grassed the other in for bad things that we would do, well mainly that I would do, our stories were solid. "Some of that going spare?" I asked as I walked into the kitchen, seeing Lottie standing at the grill flipping some bacon in a pan. She jumped and turned to me, "Your home already", she squealed and ran to me, hugging me. "Yeah, roads were quiet" I answered her as I sat down at the kitchen island, grabbing a plate from the pile, filling it with some eggs and a couple slices of toast that was already on the serving trays. Lottie walked over with the pan and piled my plate with bacon. "Enjoy, they were Aston's". She smirked, turning back to the grill adding more bacon to the pan. I laughed at her as I began eating, "Where is everyone?" I asked her. Aston was helping Octavia with something. Bryn stayed with her parents last night. Aunt Kala was teaching her some new spell and it Kind of knocked her for six so she just slept there. What about you? how was the wedding?". I hummed in response to her. It was no secret I hated public events. I liked my own space, to be stuck in a hall with over 500 people was torture. Women constantly pawing at me, doing things to gain my attention. "That good huh? I heard you found Laura". Her voice was filled with amusement. She knew very well what happened. She was with Aston last night. "Hence the swift return home", I threw back at her as I got up and put my plate in the sink. She chuckled out loud "I'm off to bed for a bit, mind link me if you need me" I shouted back. I ran up the stairs. Elle I woke up with the usual beads of sweat covering my body. I had hoped, being in a safer environment, the nightmares would have eased. However, the last week has proven that I may not be as strong as I once thought I was. The images of my parent's demise in my mind kept replaying over and over the minute I closed my eyes. I got up and headed straight for the shower, even though I spent a good hour in the bath before bed last night I still had to wash the sweat from my body. I knew I had a full day ahead of me today, I needed a job and more clothes. I wanted to give myself a better life. Not let the events of last week dictate how I live my life Haydon was not going to win like that. Once I was showered and changed there was a knock on the door, I opened it to see Glinda standing there holding a tray with an assortment of foods on. "Good morning my dear, how are you today?" She asked as I took the tray from her thanking her, Using her cane she hobbled into my kitchen area. "I'm a little better today thankyou. It was good to be in a nice warm bed, this smells good" I stated, losing track of the conversation as I brought the tray to my nose inhaling the delicious smell deeply. "I can help if the nightmares begin to get too much for you." I looked at her strangely, how did she know about my nightmares? "I can sense it in the air, my child, Something is lodged in your mind that you can't quite shift, am I right?" I nodded my head, but I knew I still wasn't ready to talk about it. It was too hard and fresh, I had to accept things myself before I expected anyone else to. "I will be OK, nothing a few days rest won't cure." I lied and she knew it. "There are a couple of people stopping by in about half an hour, I would like you to come to the office and meet them" "Yeah sure, who are they?" I asked cautiously. "Nobody that will harm you dear, but I think you would get on well with them" she smiled as she headed towards the door. We said our goodbyes and I swiftly ate my breakfast before I needed to head to the office. Octavia "I don't know how I drew the short straw here, Lottie could have come here with you", Aston moaned as he looked at the tall building in front of him. "You're being paranoid, suck it up buttercup we will be in and out in minutes" "I'm not being paranoid at all, you saw what happened with that girl last time. It is a house full of wronged women, all with vendettas against the entire male species" I rolled my eyes at him. The man would willingly stand and fight hundreds of men but take him to Corban house, He turns into a chicken. "You walked into her, she thought you were trying to attack her, her actions were justified. You were aware of her past" "Justified my ass!" he mumbled, he really was still a child. "Look Glinda asked us to stop by, dropping off the donations at the same time saves coming back a second time. So if you think about it, I'm actually doing you a favor" "If you were doing me a favor you would have left me at home, I've missed breakfast and everything for this" He pulled the car door handle getting out. Grabbing the bags we had in the trunk of the car we made our way inside, Aston mumbling under his breath, I knew his wolf would be telling him to suck it up also. "Glinda" I beamed as I walked into the office dropping the bags and rushing to hug the old woman who I had grown to love over the years. She hugged me tightly in return, "How are you, it's so good to see you Octavia" I pulled back as I saw her look behind me at a wary Aston. He was looking around as he walked into the room. "Don't worry it's just us" she reassured him. "For now" she added smiling in his direction. I could see he tried his best to ignore the comment, "These are the most recent donations I'll leave them here" he said as he walked straight by us stacking the bags up against the back wall. "Is everything ok Glinda, you sounded a bit worried on the phone?" I asked her as we both took a seat at her little desk. "Oh, everything is fine dear, It's just.." She shifted in her seat slightly and looked out towards the back door. "I had a woman come here last night, there is something about her, something I can't quite put my finger on but she was in a right state when she came here. She traveled by foot through the forest from the Grey Rock Pack" She explained. "That's some distance to travel!" Aston said, stunned. "Is she ok?" I asked her. She was clearly bothered by this girl as she had never called me here before to talk about any of the women here. "She says she is, but I'm not too convinced" Glinda sighed. "What's her story?" I asked. "I don't know, she didn't want to talk about it, but there is one thing I have picked up on, She's an Alpha, but has the markings of a healer," Glinda said. Both Aston and I looked at each other. 'Female Alpha's are rare, the only other one I know of is my mother' I mind linked Aston, he nodded slightly before looking back at Glinda. "You're sure? Aston asked her double checking she was sure with her predictions. "There is no doubt about it, I was wondering if you could look into the pack, find out what's happened, She looked as if she was at death's door last night, I could see she was in quite a bit of pain. Then this morning when I took her breakfast to her she had bathed so I got a better look at her. I could see several marks on her, even some bruising still visible. You know as well as I do for an Alpha to take that long to heal there is more to the story" "I'll look into it Glinda, if there is something that is going on then either Enzo or the King needs to know, abuse towards women is not tolerated, you think her parents are to blame for this?" Aston agreed Glinda shook her head slowly as I could see she was thinking about something. "No I asked her if she had any family and she said no. There was a lot of emotion coming from her when she said it, sadness and some fear, which is why I think something has gone on there. If rules have been broken then the Alpha needs to know" "I agree, I think we should speak with him when we get back, see if he is aware of anything," I said to Aston. "Thankyou Aston but I actually would like you to do something else for me, Octavia," Glinda said as she opened her drawer beside her. Sliding a white envelope across the table to me. "This is Elles clothing allowance, if you have the time I was wondering if you could take her shopping. She doesn't know the area and I think the one thing she needs right now is a friend. She may even open up to you" "Eloise Brooks" I read the name from the envelope as I picked it up. "Brooks?" Aston repeated as he leaned over to look at the name. "Evan and Louise Brooks were the Alpha and Luna of the Grey rock pack," "You go find out what you can, I'll take her shopping and see what I can find out," I told him. "Ah here she is" Glinda got up from her seat as the door behind us opened, In stepped a young woman, she was extremely skinny, The first thing I noticed were her bright green eyes, they were a unique shade of green, one I had never seen before. she wore blue jeans and a vest top. I noticed the strange tattoos etched across her chest hiding how her collar bone was clearly visible with several marks around her neck, almost as if she had been strangled. Her long dark Auburn hair was up in a messy bun on the top of her head. "Hi," She said quietly as she closed the door behind her and walked toward us. "Elle my dear, this is Aston and Octavia" Glinda introduced us. "Hi, nice to meet you" she smiled shyly giving a small wave, the tiny runes she had tattooed on the back of her hands and down her fingers were the very same our pack healer had. I studied her face as she stood closer now, I could see a couple of cuts on her lips that were quite old, already beginning to heal. The green and yellow tints under her eyes and on her cheekbone were almost gone, there was no doubt she took a beating or two. "It's great to meet you, Elle, I was just off into town I wondered if you wanted to join me? Aston here is leaving me and heading back home" I asked her happily, pretending like I hadn't noticed anything about her. She nervously looked between Glinda and myself, "I...I don't think I can, sorry" I picked up the envelope from the table and waved it at her, if there was one thing I knew, it was women loved to shop. "You sure? because this has your name on it, and I'm pretty sure I can hear them shop tills singing our names from here" "What's that?" She asked Glinda looking confused. "Each person gets given some money when they first get here, just to help with clothes and any essential items you need. Go have fun, Octavia will look after you" Glinda insisted as she pretty much began to push us out of the building. I watched as Elle nervously walked out of the building, looking around at her surroundings, Glinda was right, something was definitely not right here.
