Shopping

Octavia As we walked towards the car I noticed Elle glancing at Aston out the corner of her eye, she seemed wary of him. Maybe Aston traveling back with us wasn't a good idea. "Aston, make an excuse and run back through the forest, she seems a little uneasy around you" I mind linked him. "You are joking me, how am I the one being kicked out of the car?" he shouted in my head in a high-pitched tone. "Please! Just do this for me and I promise I won't make you come here with me next time" I pleaded. He huffed out loud "Fine" he mumbled. "I actually have a couple of things I have to get done, you mind if I split," Aston said out loud, he started backing up towards the trees behind him. "Really? I was looking forward to our shopping trip, and it was my treat for lunch, you're going to miss out" I played along, trying to hold back my smirk I saw the look he had on his face as he turned around to the forest and began jogging. "I don't mind staying here if it's because I'm coming, I don't want to make things awkward for you and your mate," Elle said as she watched Aston disappear into the trees. "Mate!" I choked, "Babe, he is not my mate and thank god, because there is no way I could put up with him, It would be like being in a relationship with an adult-size toddler at times" I joked as I opened the passenger door for her. Elle The ride into town was a pleasant one, Octavia I think her name is was quite chatty. she seemed like a lovely person, I'm not too sure of the other man though, he seemed like he was in a rush to leave the minute we walked out of Corban house. Octavia had explained where everything was around Blackwood, not that I would be able to remember everything but I wasn't planning on traveling too far on my own, not yet anyway. She said she had lived here all of her life, I knew she must be a part of the pack here. This was the third shop we were looking around there wasn't too much in the first two but this one seemed like more my style. Octavia's too if the pile of clothes draped over her arm was anything to go by. "Don't you just love a good sale" She breathed as we stood in line to pay. "I do, back home we don't have too many shops like this" I answered her looking around, the shop seemed to go on for miles. "What do you mean, a mall?" She asked raising one eyebrow. I nodded, "Yeah it's a small town where I come from, If we need alot of clothes we can head into the city but it's around a four-hour drive so we usually just make do with the smaller shops our little town had" I explained. "I could not do that, clothes shopping for me is like therapy, sometimes things just need to be brought, just because we don't need it now there is no telling whether we will need it in a week or month, I like to be prepared" She smiled. We paid for all our items, I say we, Octavia told me to keep my money as she paid, even though I objected she just gave me a stern look as she handed over her card. It was past lunchtime now and we stopped at a little cafe that Octavia knew, both of us quite hungry from all the shopping we had been doing for the past few hours. "So what do you think of Blackwood so far" Octavia asked me as she munched away on her fries. "It's so big, I think it will take some getting use to" I answered her honestly. The truth was I quite liked it here, I felt comfortable. I'm not sure why but I was beginning to feel at home, Octavia was a good person, I'm sure it was down to her that I felt so relaxed. "Would you mind if I asked about where you came from?" Octavia asked. I put my burger back down onto my plate and used the tissue to wipe my mouth, using the time to think of how much I could tell her, did I trust her with the truth? I didn't really know her well enough. "It's alot different to here, we live high up in the mountains so we are quite isolated from other people. We tend to make do with things we have, Alot of the women from my pack are very talented with materials and animal skins." I explained. "I didn't realize there were still packs out there who remained so primitive," She said with a look of amazement on her face, " I mean, no offense, but if you gave me an animal skin, I would have no idea what to do with it" I laughed slightly looking at her "When you're raised that way you learn these things early, I'm grateful for the talents I have, I could go out hunting for days and survive on my own in human form." "Well if ever we find ourselves being chased up into the mountains just know I will be sticking with you" she smiled as she stabbed some fries on her plate with her forking. I liked the way she found humor in things, she wasn't serious, bombarding me with questions. I liked she let me open up at my own speed and didn't rush me into anything. As we both finished the last of our meals a strange noise was coming from Octavia's bag, "Sorry, I've just got to answer this" she pulled the mobile phone out from her bag, "Hey mum" she chirped. I didn't really listen in to the rest of the conversation as it brought the memory of my own mother back to the surface. The last conversation we shared with each other was her telling me how proud she was of me and she loved me dearly, she knew she was going to be killed and there was nothing I was able to do. I tried to fight for her but I was left barely alive myself. Haydon and his men had beaten me black and blue for trying to escape. We were caught about three miles from our packhouse, my mother was barely able to walk and I refused to leave her. When we were captured Haydon sentenced my mother to death by beheading that night. "Helloooo..." A hand waved in front of my face. I blinked hard, bringing myself back into reality, "are you ok?" Octavia asked, her face laced with worry. "Yeah sorry" I shook my head, "I was just thinking about what else I needed from here" Octavia raised her head slowly nodding at me just once, she knew I was lying, it was written all over her face. "Ok, anyway, that was my mum, she wants me and my brother to go for dinner tonight, she said you are more than welcome to come if you want" She offered. "I would but, I have everything to put away, and I have to speak with Glinda about any jobs going in the area, I don't want to leech off of her for too long," I said, I wasn't quite ready to be introduced to more members of the pack. "A job? what sort of thing are you wanting?" She asked. "I don't mind, I'm a quick learner so I'll have a go at doing anything" "Ok, well you're hired! My brother owns a club that I work at most nights, we have just had someone leave, Trudy has found her mate and gone to join him so we have an opening" She smiled. "Don't you have to speak to your brother about it first, I don't want to impose?" I asked cautiously, not wanting to cause any trouble "No, but if it makes you feel better I will" She picked her phone up and scrolled down the screen before putting the phone to her ear. I listened carefully not wanting to eavesdrop but at the same time I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be causing arguments between her and her brother" "Hello" A deep voice sounded, the hairs on the back of my neck immediately began to rise, I tried to remain calm not letting Octavia know how uneasy I was feeling, I could feel my wolf pushing to the surface, was I really going to have this reaction around men now? Not exactly ideal if I was to start working in a bar. "Hi, I'm just ringing to tell you I've just hired someone to take Trudy's place at the bar" she explained. "Hmm, great," The voice said, he didn't sound like he cared that much, in fact, he sounded half asleep. "Ok, I'll see you when I'm home, oh, and we are at mum's tonight for dinner" "So I've been told" he deadpanned. "Well seen as you are so happy to hear from me, I will let you get back to whatever you were doing" Octavia pressed the screen on her phone and cut him off before he had the chance to answer her. "See it's fine" She smiled, as though nothing was wrong. "He doesn't seem too happy, did you wake him?" I asked her completely dropping myself in it for eavesdropping. "Yeah, he had a long night last night apparently, nothing he didn't bring on himself so serves him right. But he's not too bad, as far as having him as a brother he always looks out for me, despite his status, he's actually quite down to earth?" "His status?" I repeated, not really knowing what she meant. "The whole Alpha, King thing, alot of people tend to treat him different, well treat us all different at times but, we are just like anyone else" she shrugged like I knew this already. "What? your brothers the king?" I asked completely shocked, surely if this was true Glinda would have mentioned something to me. It was a big detail to leave out. "He's Alpha, my father is still king, Enzo's not really interested in the whole king thing just yet. He has other things he wants to do first" she said nonchalantly. I looked at her gobsmacked, so I had been shopping all this time with a princess. "I stood from my seat nervously, and bowed slightly in her direction, "I'm soo sorry I had no idea who you were" "Hey!" She jumped from her seat pushing me back down into mine. "I am no different to you, please don't bow down to me, we are just two friends out shopping" she smirked slowly sitting back in her seat. I gasped covering my mouth "I just turned down dinner with the royal family" I whimpered. Covering my face with complete embarrassment. "Technically yes you did, however, it's not a formal sitting, probably meat and two veg, then dessert while my father and brother drink whisky" she mused. "I'm sorry," I said to her again. "So does that mean you will come" she smiled raising her brows at me, waiting for me to agree. I could see the mischievous grin on her face, she knew there was no way in hell I would decline a second time. I was going to have serious words with Glinda when I got back. I exhaled loudly in defeat, "Yay! I'll let my mum know" she smiled doing a little dance in her seat while typing away on her phone.
