Elle
It was already mid-day, I decided to leave my little home and go for a walk in the woods. As I reached the office I saw Glinda sitting at her desk, of course, she knew I was there before she even had to look in my direction.
"How are you, my dear? I hear you had your first shift at Fantasia last night" She asked looking up at me over the rim of her glasses.
"I'm good thankyou and yes my shift went very well, Octavia has been so kind with everything she has done for me" I answered her, seeing the vacant chair opposite her I decided to sit with her for a couple of moments. "A head's up would have been nice that I was heading out shopping with a princess" I c****d my eyebrow at her sneakiness.
A sly grin suddenly appeared on her face as she shuffled some pieces of paper and stapled them together. "I didn't think you would mind about her status, she is a good girl, I knew I could trust her with you" She put all her papers in her drawer and finally relaxed back into her chair, looking up at me I now had her full attention.
"Oh, I didn't mean any offense, I don't mind her status at all, she has been a big help to me. I hope our friendship remains for a long time. She is different from how I thought a princess would be though"
"How so?" she asked curiously.
"She's.... Well, she's normal" I laughed, "Nice normal I mean, but I like that about her, I feel like she could become someone I can trust"
Glinda chuckled to herself as she leant her elbows on her desk, "Just like anyone else Octavia has struggled during her life, she finds it hard to have friendships with people. Alot of people tend to take advantage of her kindness, her family are very close and her brother inparticular is very protective of her. He has seen the pain she has experienced when so-called friends hurt her. Enzo is very much like his father, he rules well, not a man to be messed with as plenty of people have found out"
"I wouldn't use her or hurt her in any way," I said feeling as though I had to defend myself.
She held her hand up to calm me, "You are different, I see certain things, so trust me when I say you and Octavia are going to become great friends, but enough of that talk, where are you off today my dear"
"I thought I would take a walk in the forest before I get ready for work tonight"
Glinda nodded at me "I like that, you are a strong person Elle, you don't like things knocking you down for long do you? Never lose that fight you have in you" she pointed at me. "Go enjoy, I won't keep you, have fun"
"Thankyou Glinda, for everything" I told her as I stood up, tucking my chair back in beneath the desk. She simply nodded at me and winked as I left.
Octavia
I sat talking to Lottie and Bryn in the lounge, they were off into town today to run some errands. The house was quiet, which was unusual for mid-day but all three of us enjoyed the silence whilst we could, Enzo and Aston had gone out to conduct some sort of pack business, I don't really get too involved in all of that.
"How's the new girl getting on I hear she's working with you at the club?" Bryn asked.
"Yeah she had her first shift last night, I was surprised how well she picked everything up, she explained to me that things are very different here, but she was great. You both have come and meet her, she is lovely, a good laugh too"
"What's her story how come she ended up in Corban house?" Lottie asked.
I shrugged my shoulders as I still had no idea "I don't know, it's still a hard subject for her to talk about so I don't push her. She will open up to me when she is ready" I hoped.
"I agree, sometimes people just need a friend for a while, when she knows she can trust you she will open up to you" Bryn said.
"So what is she like, bet she was a hit last night," Lottie asked excitedly.
I laughed at her enthusiasm "She is great, even mum loved her, she has invited her on holiday with us next month which I can't wait for. Once word got around about a new girl working the bar it was jam-packed, like Friday night packed!" I answered her enthusiastically.
"What was?" Enzo asked as he walked in behind us with Aston following behind him.
"The club, everyone came to drool over the new girl" Bryn answered him.
I turned around to face both the men, "Yeah even Aston joined the party" I teased sticking out my tongue at him.
"No I didn't" he was quick to defend himself making us all laugh. "I just called in for a drink, which she happened to serve me, I didn't notice how hot she was at all" he tried to keep the serious expression on his face but he was never good at that the smile slowly began to creep up on him as we all laughed at him.
"Is this the new girl from Grey rock?" Enzo asked me, I nodded confirming it was.
"What's she like?" he asked Aston, obviously wanting a male's opinion.
"She's a lovely girl" I watched as his eyes glazed slightly obviously mind linking him something. Enzo chuckled to himself and nodded.
"Care to share?" I sarcastically asked Aston.
"I just reminded Enzo about some paperwork we have to go do" he elbowed Enzo and they both began walking out the room like little schoolboys that have been into mischief.
Enzo
I was becoming more and more curious about this new girl. I had heard about her from everyone, it was all the lads were talking about in training this morning. When I asked Aston what she was like I knew he wouldn't say much in front of the girls, instead he mind linked me saying "She's on fire, I wouldn't kick her out of bed that's for sure, don't tell the girls I said that though I'll explain more in the office" I couldn't help but laugh.
"So what's so special about the girl to have all my men whipped?" I asked Aston as we walked into my office.
"I dunno what it is, the first day I saw her she wasn't too bad, looked a bit rough but still a looker but last night, she looked like an angel behind that bar. She looks pretty much fully healed now still a bit on the skinny side but nothing a few more meals won't sort" He explained excitedly as he pulled the chair out sitting down.
"I think I'm going to have to introduce myself, see what all the fuss is about" I smirked.
You want to do more than introduce yourself my wolf laughed. He seemed alot calmer today for some reason, definitely less vulgar.
Ignoring him I continued talking to my beta. "When Is she working next?"
"No idea, I think she is tonight, if you find out any different let me know, I will work my schedule around her" Aston smirked.
"What schedule? you mean you will go see her between eating and napping" I laughed.
"That hurt!" He held his hand over his heart, "I work hard around here you know" I put my hand up to silence him as I could feel one of my men trying to reach me via mind link.
"Alpha, we need you in the forest, near Norah's hut asap"
"On my way" I answered him getting up from my chair.
"Somethings wrong, Jones wants us at Norah's place asap"
Within minutes we had sprinted across the forest, Norah was one of the women who came here many years ago after her mate died. She lost her home to Hunter's that came through her town narrowly escaping capture. Even though we have lived in peace for centuries now with humans, however, there are still ones out there who hunt our kind. We were lucky enough to never have them cross our lands, I think they were well aware of the war that would start if they did.
I saw three of my men crowding around Nora who looked very distraught. "What's happened, Nora?" I asked as I knelt by her side, putting my hand on her shoulder to calm her.
She wiped her eyes as she took a deep breath to calm herself, "There was something here, I was in my back garden pulling the weeds and I h-heard something growling at me" she said between sobs, I looked around but there was no scent I could pick up on. "I stood up to get a better look at whatever it was and it just lunged at me and knocked me over" she began to cry again.
"It's ok, I will find whatever it was" I tried to reassure her, crying women really wasn't my thing, I never knew how to approach the situation. "Have you searched the area?"I asked my men, they were trained well so I was confident they had.
"Ash nodded, "Yes Alpha, apart from a few tracks there is nothing else, we were not that far away, we heard her screams and were here in seconds but it had already gone." I asked one of my men to stay with Nora while Ash took me around the back so I could see the area for myself.
Kneeling down I could see the large prints in the ground, The weather had been pretty warm recently so there wasn't much soft ground left to see a full print. "They're big," Aston said as he balled up his fist placing it in the pad of the print.
"What do you think Alpha?" Ash asked from behind us, Nora standing by his side.
I stood up looking around "I'm not sure, did you get a look at it, Nora?" I asked her hoping she had something for me to go on.
"Black eyes, it had black fur but when it ran off it looked like it had a ginger coloring underneath, like Aston said, it was huge. If it had attacked me I wouldn't have stood a chance" she explained much more calmly this time.
"So it didn't attack you?" I asked confused.
"It jumped at me, when I stood up it was sort of mid-air, it knocked me over then ran off " It was very unusual for a wolf to attack but not actually do anything.
I shook my head as I looked at Aston, "Something is not right, a lone wolf got into the middle of the forest undetected, leaving behind no scent. which rules out rogues"
"There would be more than one if it was rogues, plus you would smell them for miles" Aston added.
I walked around the garden seeing the crushed plants where the incident occurred, I saw the small trowel on the floor with blood on it. "Did you injure yourself?" I turned back to Nora.
She shook her head "No Alpha, I'm not injured at all"
I picked up the trowel and brought it to my nose to see if I could pick up on something "nothing" I huffed, on closer inspection I saw a couple of black hairs stuck in the blood. Picking them out I could see Nora was right, they were black with ginger at the base quite an unusual color.
"I'm thinking whatever it was after it wasn't you Nora" I handed her the trowel and kept hold of the hairs. "I think there is a good possibility that when you stood up you scared it. Maybe it never saw you in your garden, that is the only thing I can think of for it not to attack you. But to be on the safe side I will have my men up patrols and keep close to your cabin for a while, but if you do feel scared I can move you somewhere else"
"No thankyou Alpha, I've been here so long, I wouldn't want to leave it"
"As you wish but please contact me if you would like to stay somewhere else temporarily," I said.
"What you doing with them?" Aston asked, nodding towards the hairs between my fingertips.
I held them up between us, "Whoever they belong to is obviously masking their scent, after a few days it will wear off and I will be able to pick up a clear scent from them so I will at least have a better idea of who I'm looking for"
