CHAPTER THREE

I slowly opened my eyes, wondering at what point it got so chilly. I slowly looked around, trying to register my surroundings, slowly the events that transpired started trickling in slowly. I looked down at myself. I must have transformed back at some point. Sobs started building in my throat. Silent tears slowly trickling down my face, slowly by slowly the sobs were becoming louder and louder, racking through my whole body. I cried and cried, not caring that I was in the forest, naked and being loud. The chances of me being attacked were so high, but I didn't care. Just like that, I had lost my whole family. The link had broken, that only meant no one in the pack but me was alive. The pain I was feeling was unbearable. I curled myself up in a ball and cried myself to sleep. My whole body is in pain. Why? What wrong had we ever done? What wrong had I ever done? I should have died along with the rest of them. I woke up and found I was surrounded by darkness. The creepy night cries had begun. An owl hooted, then a wolf howled startling me. I got to my feet. They were so sore. My face felt swollen. I couldn't possibly go back to my home now. It was probably raided, or our attackers were still rejoicing in their victory. A sharp pang pierced through my chest at the memory. I was so cold, and my feet were shaking. I mustered all my strength and transformed into my wolf. It may be a little, but at least that way I was warm. I walked slowly, still unsure of my next move. Where do I go? What do I do? I should probably get some shelter of some sort. I could be lucky and get a cave in the hillsides, but right now my sense of direction was all messed up and honestly, I was too tired, physically and mentally. I found a tree, sniffed around it to make sure no one had marked their territory there, curled up and fell asleep. Tomorrow, I'm going to visit my pack. Rather my former pack. Sigh. I tried to close my eyes and sleep, but no sleep came. My stomach rumbled, "we never really came round to eating, huh," I thought bitterly. Jambled up memories plagued me until finally I fell asleep. It was a long, restless night for me. Morning could not have come any sooner, the moment I had birds chirping I was alert. My ears are twitching, I stretch my body, enjoying the feel of my muscles stretching. My body was still sore all over but the sleep, albeit restless, must have somewhat helped. I started walking slowly, unsure of where I was heading, right, Silver moon pack, or what it used to be anyway. I had to be careful not to stay in my wolf form for too long. I risked my animal instincts taking over and me becoming a rogue. But the thought of walking in the nude in broad daylight is unthinkable. "Try and hang on to yourself. Your human side, anyway," I thought to myself. I could already tell it was going to be a challenge. I could smell prey somewhere, I stood right in my tracks sniffing the air. My head snapped to the right, spotting the bunny as it dashed from one bush to the next. I could catch it. This was an easy target. I stealthily moved closer to it, trying not to get it to run. At that point, only one thing was on my mind. Catching the bunny. I could imagine the feeling of its neck in my jaw, as its warm blood filled my mouth, overflowing with abundance. "Snap out of it, Sierra!" I suddenly got to my senses. Where did that voice come from? I shook my head, unable to believe I just had those thoughts coursing through my brain. I felt ashamed that I was actually looking forward to devouring that cute bunny. I looked up and it was gone. The disappointment that suddenly engulfed me and my kiss dismayed me even more. I crushed those feelings, confusing me and started running towards my destination. I didn't even know what to call it anymore. It wasn't home anymore, neither was it my pack. I needed to change back before I completely lost my human senses. But does it normally really happen this fast? Somehow, I doubted it, but I wasn't willing to risk it either. I slowed down as I neared the pack, trying to sense whether there were any enemies around, but I sensed none. I got into the pack slowly. The former warmth and relief that used to envelope me was no longer there. Instead, the stench of blood, ashes, burnt up bodies stung my nose, bringing tears to my eyes. I slowly transformed back, the sudden chill biting my naked body. I shivered as I shakily got up, rubbing my arms. I slowly headed for the main house when a sound caught my ear. I stood frozen to the spot, scared to even move a muscle. I literally had no fight left in me. I could catch some loud noises but I could barely understand what they were saying. Should I turn back? But where would I go? I stealthily creeped forward, even though everything in me was screaming at me to turn back. "-the Raedwulf pack is victorious once again." a male's voice boomed from inside the main house. "Another pack decimated just like that!" another one chimed in and they both started laughing. I slowly tiptoed forward and peeked inside. What I saw immediately made me hurl. I got on all fours and puked my guts out. Just at the entrance. Bringing men's attention to me. I quickly hid, hoping they hadn't seen me yet, as I tried fighting back the tears. Heavy footsteps started coming my way. I quickly got to my feet and ran. Tears were blinding me but I didn't care. I was naked but I didn't care. I just ran and ran, for my life. With that image seated in my memory. "I promise. I'll avenge you."
