Anna’s P.O.V
The next day I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock going off and even though I’m not a fan of getting up early I knew I had to. I threw the blankets off me, stretching my arms and got out of bed, going straight to the bathroom to do my business. I showered, dried off, brushed my teeth and went back into my bedroom, getting dressed ready for school. I packed everything I needed into my bag before I hurried to do my hair, brushing it and spraying it with hair spray to make sure that it wouldn’t frizz up, then hurried downstairs to the kitchen. I grabbed a bagel, spread some cream cheese on it, taking a bite out of it as my dad sat there with his morning coffee that my mom always made for him for as long as I can remember.
“Mom, dad, I’ll probably be home early today as it is the last day of school for summer vacation. I’ll be back soon.” I said, kissing my mom and dad goodbye. I walked out of the pack house eating the rest of my bagel, brushing the crumbs off my hands and then got into my car, driving off to school. As soon as I got to school I parked my car up, got out and went inside to find my two best friends Toby and Jessica waiting by my locker.
“Hey, it's about time you got here, we have been waiting forever.” Toby said, being dramatic as usual, while Jessica just rolled her eyes at him.
“Toby shut up, we just got here ten minutes ago.” Jessica said and we all started laughing.
“I cant believe that we only have two weeks of summer vacation before we come back to school and then the school year will be over, then we will all graduate. This is going to either go by really fast or drag like mad.” Toby said and this time I was the only one laughing.
“Says you. You've already shifted. I'm turning eighteen and going to be doing my first shift this week on Thursday.” I replied, feeling nervous and scared about the whole thing. Toby and Jessica knew how nervous I was about my first shift. Toby had already experienced it, but Jessica was a human who knew all about us, so she would never experience it, even though she desperately wanted to be part of our world. The only way that would happen is if she was mated to a werebear, a werewolf, a vampire or werecat and they changed her if she was near death, which was a stupid rule if you ask me, but thats also how my mom was changed, she was near death. I have heard from others that the first shift is the worst because of how painful it is, your bones break, dislocate and reform into their new shape, you sprout fur all over your body and your skull feels like it's being crushed as it takes its new shape. Some people can't handle the pain of their first shift and end up letting their beast take over because the pain is just too much to bear for them. Jessica looked at me with her light green eyes and moved her long brown hair away from her face, she was about 6.1 and was seventeen years old the same as me, but her birthday was a few weeks after mine. She wanted to become one of us, but when it came to having a mate she was a little bit like me, she wanted to do so much before finding the one as she calls it, but she is at least open to the idea unlike me. Toby however was seventeen the same as me, but he shifted before me because he is a werebear and still hasn't found his mate. Maybe he will find her when he comes to my birthday party, there are going to be other werebears there as well, so you never know. Toby is very handsome with short black hair and hazel eyes, he was about 6 foot in height. Some human girls walk by him, giggling to try and get his attention and everytime no matter who it is he winks at them and they all start blushing as they walk faster away from him, I always think it's funny. We all quickly hurried to first period class and it was algebra, making all of us roll our eyes, as we hated it.
“Why do we even need to learn this stuff, it's not like we are going to use algebra when we are done with school, but they make us learn this stuff anyway before we are able to graduate. I hate math.” Jessica said, snorting, while Toby chuckled and playfully pushed her.
“It's okay, once we are done then we don't have to worry about algebra or school anymore, unless you go to college.” Toby said and looked over at me.
“I know I’m going to college close by so that I can come home and visit my parents, plus wash clothes to save money, but not close enough that my parents can come and visit my dorm room every day.” I said, as we all walked into the classroom. We took our seats and carried on talking about college before the teacher walked in. Her name was Mrs. Patt And she was a pretty, eldery lady in her fifties, but she still looked young and she didn't stand any messing around from the students. The first bell rang and the rest of the students all came running into the classroom and quickly sat down. I looked at the clock and even though it was the last day of school for summer vacation I couldn't wait for it to be over.
