4. Selene POV

1302 Words
Tell us, godfather, please! Lester, my twin brother, said. I rolled my eyes, knowing that Lex would keep adding his twin; these boys were chasing more rumors than any girl I have not met, our father had left, and our godfather had begun telling our parents' tale. I was too familiar with this story: Mother married her chosen partner at a young age because she had a younger brother who could inherit the throne if she didn't. Father and mother were engaged to different people. Our mother was our father's fated mate, and he refused to let her go in spite of everything working against them—despite the fact that they had been childhood sweethearts. Father had rejected his chosen mate. I heard my uncle say something that my mother had not told me when I put my elbow on the car. "There your mother suffered a tragedy that shall never be repeated, but fear not, your father learned of the traumatic event to which he killed both the Dukes at the time for their ignorance towards their Queen and his lover." That is, of course, until your father left after their first night together. When I heard that, I shook my head at my uncle Enzo and said something startling. "Mom experienced a catastrophe? What is the godfather's story? Tell us! To my dismay, Enzo laughed as he heard me. He loved pulling practical jokes on all of us. However, the car stopped when I asked it to. The door of my car opened, revealing the head of Buttler—how strange. While I am being assisted, I notice that the castle has gray bricks on the front, gold windows with decorations in various shades of gold, and a white marble floor. When my siblings get inside, they will undoubtedly cause chaos, and the staff will not get a break until we are handed back to our mother. Still, I worry about their sanity. We are stopped as we run inside by a woman dressed in form-fitting pants and a metal-decorated shirt; it was not her attire that caught our attention, but rather how she looked. Were we on the wrong track when it came to our mother's estate? I turned to Godfather Enzo to ask him, but he already knew the answer to the question I had not asked. "The rest of the staff has been waiting, Lupe, and I received word to direct you here.” My brothers could not contain their laughter when they saw the harry woman, dressed in a gray suit and pants, walking to the front of the castle with a boy who was equally harry but not as much as the woman. I was not good at staring, that is for sure. I turned to face the woman as soon as I heard her voice. "Princess Selene, you should not be staring at a bone like a curious dog." I blinked quickly and attempted to clarify, but she kept interrupting. "But I am happy to see that my Queen's daughter has grown so much since you were a puppy, and that she is just as beautiful as her own mother." A pup? As she got to know me back when I was still on Earth? She then pointed sharply at my brothers, raising many questions in my mind. "The Prince twins, Lester and Lex, must maintain their ground and Prince Leroy must take the same course, or else you will encounter my strong hand, young men." It took me a moment to recognize her as the person she could be after hearing her commands, and then I spoke up without being asked to. “Lupe.” She stopped talking after I said something, and she came to me to say that she had been speaking to the man standing next to her without making any facial expressions. "Carter leads the Prince brothers to their designated rooms." I was surprised by his gentle tone, but he did look very handsome when he answered her. "Yes, ma'am." They made their way inside the massive castle. I could tell we were staying in a royal residence because the walls behind me were a faded green color, the ones in front of me were more orange, and the ones that crawled were a dark pale purple. As I began to explore the area, I realized that this castle belonged to my father and that the surrounding area was not his. "Your astute observations are accurate in every statement you make, but I am not sure why you are so clumsy—not even your uncle Lionel is this way." Putting the blame on the lone i***t is the only way out of this situation. I told her to stop bringing up my brothers, because I know that is not who they are. "With that statement, Uncle Enzo is my source of inspiration." She gave me the look I hoped for, then closed her eyes in response to what I had said. "It all makes sense now, the messenger of fate. Very well, but you have the final say. Learn to speak up when necessary and to remain silent when not instructed, and for the time being, just follow me. She turned, her eyes closed, and I saw the look of shock on my uncle's face as we entered the castle. Lupe walked past him without saying anything, even though he was trying to defend his personality trait to her. The sisters of fate, who I consider to be my aunts, spoke warmly of this castle and explained to me how particular they were in claiming it for Lupe and her family to keep it as they had left it. Since they were no longer a monarchy but a government, they wanted to start with me and give me a better chance at something I did not yet know. This castle would only be home to their future offspring. As soon as I walked into the rooms, I was transported back to my visits to my aunt's estates. The colors were the same but much more vivid, and numerous objects, like coat hangers, vases, and candleholders, had wolves carved into them. I asked Emmy once what her wolf could do when she was not a goddess. I had seen her wolf many times; it was a big, fluffy, green shade of a wolf. Describe it was much harder than actually seeing her. Emmy would happily explain that her clan was immune to poison and could heal itself more quickly, but that their blood—a mixture of pure wolfbane and silver—could kill anyone who bit them. She said that, in addition to the gifts of fertility with everything from conception to agriculture, their royal bloodline was the only one with that ability. They could even use their to help populate the animals. "I have been returning to my wife's estate for centuries now, and every corner I turn brings back memories of my childhood." It was lovely to hear Enzo speak in this way, recalling a moment spent with my aunts. Despite being a clumsy guardian, at his core, he is a lover for my aunts. I asked my uncle, forgetting what I was going to say, hoping to hear his story instead of my mother's. Of course, I was familiar with my aunt's version of their story, but it only covered their early dating and did not go into detail about how they got pregnant with their son or anything like that. "How did you find out, Uncle, that my aunts were the ones for your heart only?" After walking to the middle of the opulent waiting area with Enzo, I gasped when I saw what my uncle Enzo was staring into in this room.
