Can I join you?” she asked Cal as she walked over. Day knew exactly where to find him. He was in a bad mood the whole week so she assumed correctly that she could find him lying on the grass of his houses massive garden. He enjoyed looking up at the night sky in the dark with no one else. She felt very special that he let her join him when he did this. It was something special that they shared together.
“Of course, you can,” he replied as he moved off his jacket to let her lie on it instead of the bare ground. They lay there for a while in silence, just looking at the stars and enjoying each other's company. The frogs in the pond at the bottom of the garden croaked and the nature around them hummed with life.
“Do you ever just want to leave?” he asked her.
“All the time,” she admitted. She needed a change – new places and faces. Something different. Some adventure in her boring life.
“Where would you go?” he turned his face to look at her and she did the same. Cal had the same chocolate brown eyes as the other Alpha’s and Day had to be careful or she would drown in them.
“Anywhere,” she admitted.
“No preferences?”
“I want to go to Africa. Any African country, every African country. Where would you go?”
“Anywhere but here.”
“So, let’s go,” she whispered, “When I graduate. Let's go anywhere but here.”
“I like that plan,” he reached out and brushed a stray strand of hair from her face. He hardly ever touched her like this. She knew he liked her in that way. She also knew he was hesitant. And so was she. If it was up to her, if they were just human – no mates, no fate, no divine intervention – she would choose him. She would spend the rest of her life with Callum Tucker. But she did not get a choice and she refused to break either of their hearts. She had had boyfriends before and flirted shamelessly but with Cal... it was too real.
“Have you sent in your applications yet?” she asked simply to break the mesmerising spell he had on her.
“I have,” he pulled his hand back, “Have you?”
“I have.” Cal and Day had made a pact a few years ago that they would go to the same college. It was a bit difficult because of the age gap but Cal had waited until she was done with high school. She had a feeling he did not really want to go to college but wanted to be with her. As selfish as it was, she was glad he loved her enough to do that with her.
“Where are you hoping we go?”
“I don’t really care,” he admitted, “All of them are good school. Where do you want to go?”
“Yale. I want to go somewhere with enough history that I couldn’t possibly learn it all in my lifetime.”
“Yale it is.” The way he looked at her made her feel like she was the most important things to ever exist.

“You were doing so well,” Day said as she walked into Gabe’s room. He was tucked under his duvet with plates of half eaten food around him. Steph was looking after him this weekend while Day was at a netball tournament but she had done a terrible job.
“She’s dating someone else,” his muffled voice came from the pile of linen.
“It does not matter,” Day said as she rummaged through his walk in closet for some clean clothes. She also turned the shower on so it could warm up.
“How could she move on so quickly? We were dating for two years and it only takes her two weeks to get over me? Am I that insignificant?”
“Listen to me,” Day sat on the edge of the bed next to him and placed a hand on his back, “she is does not deserve you. The fact that she is dating someone new is a reflection of her inability to be alone, not on you as a person.”
“I guess,” the grumble sounds again.
“How about you go take a shower, I know that always makes you feel better.” Day stood up and opened the curtains.
“I do enjoy showers,” he pulled the covers back and the smell made her eyes water and gag, “I take it I also need a shower.”
“And possibly an exersism,” Day put a sleeve over her nose to block the smell, “what demon died in your bed?”
“That would be my self-esteem,” he joked as he headed to the bathroom.
Day opened all the windows and stripped the bed while Gabe got ready for school. She also stacked all the plates together for the omega to take downstairs. The smell had somewhat dissipated when Gabe returned smelling much better. They grabbed their school bags from the spot by his suite door and head downstairs.
Just her luck Rhys was standing in the foyer with his friends. He had a pretty little brunette tucked under his arm, like most of the guys with females, as they all chatted. It was unfortunate that Gabe was friends with all of the Alpha’s because Day really wanted to avoid Rhys. Gabe joined the conversation while Day stood quietly. She felt very put of place among them. All of the males were warriors clad in black or grey while the females were dressed in tight cropped clothing. Day’s white and yellow flower cottage core sundress stood out like a sore thumb.
“We should be on our way,” Gabe eventually said.
“Good seeing you, Beta,” Rhys said to him. His gaze then turned to Day as he said, “Daffodil.”
She clenched her jaw. That f*****g nickname grated her the wrong way. He gave it to her after she wore this exact sundress. The triplets had gone away with their respective friends and Day had been one of Cal’s invites. On the third night Rhys had left her tied up in a daffodil field the whole night.
“Alpha,” she bowed slightly even though everything in her screamed against it. She had learnt the hard way to always address him properly. He had held her by her foot over a third floor balcony for disrespecting him.
If there was one person she truly despised, it was Rhys.

She was infuriatingly beautiful in that f*****g dress. Her golden hair and it’s soft curls. All he wanted to do was take a fist full of that hair while he f****d her. Instead he was stuck with the wispy brown hair of the female with her mouth around his c**k. He could not even remember her name because she was just a fill in for Dolores.
Rhys knew the way he treated her was childish but he had no other outlet. She drove him to the brink of insanity. What he truly wanted was to screw her until she screamed his name but she had no interest in him.
So, here he was in an attempt to replace her. But no one could replace her.
