3. All Three Alphas

“They changed it!” Day sat on the bench next to Steph. The cafeteria was Day’s least favourite place but with the rain, they were building bound. “Changed what?” Topper was the only one who cared enough to ask. “The Blue Neighbourhood Album,” Day whined, “They took all of the explicit words out.” “Is that not a good thing?” Gabe asked. “f**k no!” Day replied, “It changes some of the songs and I am not here for it!” “Sorry, Day,” Topper says as everyone else is occupied with something else. “I feel like no one is listening to me!” “We’re listening,” Steph says, “We just don’t care.” “Wow. Thank you so much, friends. I appreciate your understanding and support,” Day says sarcastically. “Oh my god!” Steph jumps in excitement, “We’re hosting the next Alpha meeting.” “What?” Steph has everyone’s attention now. “I’m reading the email now – Spring Valley is happy to announce that we will be hosting The Southwestern Alpha’s meeting on the 14th of May. We understand this is the first day of summer vacation so a party will be held on the afternoon of the 14th to not only welcome the other packs but also the summer. All children will need to be home by seven thirty as the adult only party will start from seven-thirty. Graduating seniors may attend the later party. All warriors will need to report to their commanding officers for new rotation schedules. We look forward to hosting such a prestigious event,” she read her email out loud to us all. The whole cafeteria had gone quiet to listen to Steph reading. Once she finished everyone erupted in excitement. “The 14th,” Topper repeated, “isn’t that your birthday?” Day nodded with a smile, “And we are going to party.” ~ The Alpha’s were arriving in two days, so it was panic central. Everyone was training double time and the kitchen staff were working like crazy to make sure everything was ready. Day was only excused for her last exam and then went back to the kitchen. It was a complete mad house. Some of the pack house residents had been moved into the surrounding cottages and houses to make extra room for the packs bringing their warriors. Day was one of the unfortunate souls that had to be moved out. Cal had offered her their spare room, which she gratefully accepted. So far she had successfully managed to avoid Rhys while Lex asked her to cook dinner for him in the house, which she didn’t mind. Despite it being her job, Day enjoyed cooking. It was therapeutic and Cal was excellent company. At Lex’s request, the kitchen let Day go early so she should cook him dinner. Lex and Cal were at training so Day was all alone in the big house. She had her phone hooked up to the kitchen radio and her music was blasting. It was so loud she did not hear the footsteps coming down the stairs. Her heart caught in her throat as she turned to see Rhys stalking her. Her entire body screamed at her but she was rooted in place by his stare. The Rae Sremmurd song continue playing. “I didn’t expect you to like songs like this,” he kept the eye contact as he walked around the kitchen island, “it’s rude. Not very you.” Day retreated step by step to get away from him. Her space ran out as she hit the sink. She threw out her hand to catch herself before slipping. “It’s naught,” he closed the distance between them but did not touch her. Her breathing turned erratic and her stomach roiled. “Maybe I should f**k you till you behave,” he whispered, his mouth barely an inch from her ear. “If you touch me I will scream,” she managed to get out though her voice was shaky. “If I was between your legs,” he gripped her chin and turned her face to look at her, “you would be screaming for a different reason.” He let her go and walked out the house. When the door clocked shut, she turned around and vomited into the sink. ~ When Lex walked into the house, Day’s hands were still shaking, and her fear scent lingered in the air. Lex sat in one of the chairs around the island. “Is everything okay?” He asked. In all the years she had known him, Alex had never asked her a personal question, so it caught her off guard. “Everything is fine,” she lied. He looked at her but did not push further. She pulled his pizza out of the over and garnished it before plating it. “Sit with me for dinner,” he said as she took the other pizza’s out the oven. It was not a request but a command. He waited for her to plate her own dinner before standing and taking his plate to the dining room. He pulled the seat at the head of the table out and, to her surprise, offered it to her. Curiouser and curiouser. “Thank you for dinner,” he said, just like he did every other time. She watched him as they sat and ate. He was so devastatingly beautiful. “You’re still in high school, right?” He said as he took a sip from his drink. She nodded with pizza in her mouth. “Are you planning anything for after graduation?” She covered her mouth with her hand to say, “I would like to study history at college.” “College?” He looked intensely with his eyebrows drawn together. “I’m hoping for Yale,” she says just so there is no silence. “That smells great,” Cal calls as the door opens. “We’re in here,” Day calls out, grateful to Cal for the buffer. ~ “So,” Cal said as he walked her back to her room in their house, “tomorrow is the big day. Eighteen.” “I guess so,” she smiled at him. “Are you excited?” He stuck his hands in his pockets like he’s nervous. “I am. Excited to finally get my wolf and mind link.” “And have a mate,” he added. She looked up at him. She had never considered it before – that Cal would be her mate. Cal Tucker with his big smile and shaggy blonde hair. She had the most overwhelming urge to kiss him. So, she did. She went onto her toes, flung her arms around his neck and covered his lips with hers. Kissing him felt so right. It felt like home. She could sense she caught him off balance as they swayed but his strong arm reached out to the wall to steady them. It took him only a moment to realise what was happening and kiss her back. His lips pressed back into hers as he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her against him. The kiss became more heated as he bit her bottom lip and slipped his tongue past her lips as she moaned. The moment his erection started to press against her, she pulled away, pressing her back to the wall. “Interesting experiment,” she said. Her lips still tingled and felt slightly bruised from the intense kiss. “I would say so,” his voice was rough as he panted. “I’ll see you around, Cal,” she smiled at him as she slipped out of his arms and down the corridor.
