Chapter Five
Cayden ordered for both of us while I read the text message from my mother. She was asking how was my first day in school.
I replied to her before I turned my attention to Cayden. “You will be with me tomorrow night, am I right?” he asked grinning.
I know what he is talking about. “Yeah, yeah.” I rolled my eyes. “You always help me with everything, it is time to return the favor. So I’ll accompany you tomorrow.” I told him which made him smile widely.
We talked about what happens to that kind of party that the students orchestrate. The food arrived not too long so we ate while still talking.
“Do they have a dress code for that party?” I asked.
He shook his head. “No, not on this one.” He said. “I think tomorrow is only a bonfire party. It is supposed to be tonight, but I think the student committee is not yet ready, so they moved it tomorrow night.” He explained before he ate again.
I nodded while chewing the food on my mouth. “Oh, I see,” I said. “So, there are more parties like that?” I asked.
He nodded. “Of course. There are dances, sports festivals, and many other activities at school. the town also has many events and activities.” He said. “And mind you, everyone in here participates.” He said.
Our talk continues until we finished eating. When we were done, we decided to stroll outside. We went to a convenience store. Cayden wants to buy chips and other snacks. I want to buy instant noodles and chips here, too.
When we were inside, we went straight to the chips section. “I want this,” I said as I got a big bag of chips.
“I want that, too.” Cayden mocked me. I nudged him and rolled my eyes at him. We took three other bags of chips before we decided to split up. I had to go to the section where instant noodles are located. Cayden went to get some biscuits.
I was scanning the aisle to find instant ramen when a guy suddenly appeared in front of me. I was stunned because he looks handsome. I feel like the time stopped.
“I know I’m handsome, love. No need to drool.” He suddenly said causing me to wake up from my sudden gawking.
I glared at him. “Whatever,” I said and turned my back on him. I just continued finding my ramen when I felt him staring at me.
I looked back at him. “Stop staring, it’s rude.” I rolled my eyes.
He chuckled. “I’m sorry. I thought you like me.” his chuckle turned to laughter.
I stopped myself from saying something. This guy is so full of himself. I know he is handsome, and I know he knows that too, for sure. But can’t he just be a little humble?
I walked out in front of him. When I looked back, he was still looking at me, smirking. I turned my eyes in front of me and tried to find Cayden. When I saw him, approached him directly.
“Any problem?” he asked when he saw my face. He immediately noticed that I was not in the mood.
“The guy on the farthest aisle,” I told him. He got the hint and looked for the guy I am talking about.
“Who are you talking about?” he asked, confused when he turned to me.
I looked to where I came from and saw no one there. I shrugged. “Maybe he left,” I told Cayden.
We paid for our groceries while I told him about my encounter with the guy earlier.
“What does he look like?” he asked.
I tried to recall the face of the man, but I think the longer I stared at him earlier did not help in retaining his face in my mind. The moment he opened his mouth, I forgot how handsome he was.
So I did not answer Cayden. I told him I’ll just tell him if I saw the guy again.
We went home after that. The next day, we went to class. Cayden fetched me again and we made our way to school.
“You ready for later?” Cayden asked as we walk through the hallway.
“Do I need to prepare for that?” I joked.
He messed my hair and laughed so I slapped his hand.
We went inside the classroom, laughing. We sat on our respective chairs when the professor came in, too.
“So, class, let’s start our day with-“ he stopped mid-sentence when a guy entered the room.
I recognized him as the guy I encountered last night. I sighed.
Cayden looked at me when he heard my sigh. “What?” he asked.
I pointed at the guy who walks his way to his chair like he owns everything, not greeting anyone, not even the professor. “He was the guy from the convenience store last night,” I whispered.
Cayden’s mouth formed into an ‘O’. I rolled my eyes when I saw his smirk. “He is the Mayor’s son.” He whispered back.
“I don’t care,” I said. Really. Why would I care? I know I won’t even care if he is the President’s son.
The professor continued the class. We had discussions about the topic for today.
The day went by like that. The guy from last night was my classmate in all of our subjects. And I was so annoyed when on one of our subjects, he was seated beside me.
He keeps reminding me of how I ‘drool’ at him last night. His term by the way. I did not drool at him. I just looked at him, and that’s it. I did not even stare long at him so why would I even drool?
“The nerve of that guy!” I vented out my anger at Cayden. He just laughed at me. “Keep laughing!” I called his laughing out.
He stopped when he saw how serious I was.
“Stop that. You will forget about that later when you enjoy the party.” He said as he starts the engine of his car.
I sighed. “I hope so,” I said, calmly now.
Cayden spent the time with me until the bonfire party started. We just hanged out at my house to kill time. When it was time to party, he drove to the forest where the bonfire will be held.
By the time we get there, the party already started. We just roam around to greet some of our classmates and schoolmates. Good thing Cayden knows almost everyone here, and he doesn’t let me feel like I am alone because I don’t know anyone except him.
“Here.” Cayden handed me a red cup. I smelled it and I immediately knew it was a beer so I drank it.
I sat on a log beside me. Cayden followed, too. “Are you enjoying yourself?” he asked.
I smiled and nodded at him. “Thank you,” I said as I lean my head on his shoulder.
He patted my head that made me laugh. “Hey, can I talk to you?” a guy told Cayden.
I sat straight and smiled. Cayden looked at me like he was asking for my permission. I raised both of my eyebrows at him. “Just, come back, later,” I told him.
He smiled and stood up. “Don’t go anywhere.” He said. I nodded immediately so he could go and enjoy himself with the guy he likes.
I smiled as I look at them talking while walking away. “Hey. What’s your name?”
I held unto my chest when I heard someone talking beside me.
“Crap!” I exclaimed. My anger just doubled up when I saw who it was.
The guy from the convenience store. Amazing.
I rolled my eyes and did not talk to him. He was holding a red cup, too. I can see it in my peripheral view but I refuse to look at him straightly. I don’t want to. His ego would think that I am staring at him. Maybe he would also think I like him.
No, not even a bit.
“Hey, could you please talk to me?” he said again when I refused to answer everything he asked. He has been talking non-stop for a while now.
I did not talk. I did not even look at him.
“Why are you mad at me?” he asked, confused. “Last night, I thought you like me.” he continued.
That was when I looked at him. Rather, glared at him. “You are so full of yourself, do you even know that?” I asked.
He smiled like he won something. “I knew I could get your attention if I say that.” He said.
“Could you stop being annoying?” I asked, now looking in front of me.
I heard his laugh. “I like you.” He said boldly.
I looked at him again. “Too bad, I don’t like you,” I said proudly, smirking.
He stood up with a smirk on his face. “We are still not sure about that.” He said. “I’ll see you around, Selene.” He said and walked out.
I sighed. I really can’t stand that guy. Hah!
When Cayden went back, he was wearing a smile on his face. “Why are you frowning?” he asked when he saw my face.
“That guy again,” I said, shortly. I know he knows I mean.
“I told you, his name is Travis.” He said, laughing at my expense.
I pouted at him. “Stop laughing at me,” I said. “And I don’t care whoever the hell is that guy.” I continued.
He pointed at my face as he laughed. “You hate him, huh?” he said. “To think you only met twice. Last night, and today.”
You have no idea.
But I did not say that out loud. I just sighed.
