Chapter Six
So far, the whole week of school was tolerable. Sometimes, that Travis guy would annoy me, but I just ignore him. He’s not worth it. The attention I would give him will not be worth it.
Cayden was the best friend I had in this town. He always accompanies me because he knows I don’t have any friends aside from him.
“Hey,” Cayden greeted as he fetched me at home. We were going to the town right now. It is a Saturday night. He said there’s a band that would be playing there tonight. “Are you ready?” he asked.
I nodded at him. “I’ll just get my bag. Come on in first,” I said as I opened the door wider to let him in. He sat on the couch in the living room before I turned my back to get inside my bedroom.
I sprayed on my perfume first before I got my bag. I am all dressed up with my fitted dress and a leather jacket. I got my bag then went out of my room immediately. I don’t want to let Cayden wait for me longer.
When I got out of the room, Cayden then stood up. “Let’s go?” he asked as he surveyed my outfit. He smirked. “Oh, you are all dressed up. Are you excited to see Travis?” he teased.
I rolled my eyes at him. “Oh, just shut up. Let’s just go,” I said as I walked past him. I opened the door and went out of my house. Cayden was behind me so when he already got out, I locked the door.
I held unto his arm as we walk our way to the town. “Shall we eat first?” I asked Cayden.
He nodded before he looked at me. “Sure, whatever you want.” He answered before he looked in front of us as we continue walking.
When arrived at the town square, the band hasn’t played yet but there are already people waiting for them. Cayden and I decided to eat at the town’s grill house. Well, I decided while Cayden just kind of agreed.
When we arrived, we sat on the chair of a vacant table. The waiter went to us, which if I remembered correctly, was the guy that Cayden liked during the bonfire.
He gave both of us a menu, each. Cayden was smiling as he received the menu from the guy. I just stifled my smile while I cover my face with the menu I was now holding. Cayden is making cute faces at the guy which was also clearly flirting at him.
Can I just get out of here so that my friend could have a good time with the guy he likes? Ugh.
We both said our orders before the guy went away. I teased Cayden using my eyes. “The guy at the bonfire, huh? So this is where he works?” I asked just to start a conversation.
Cayden tried so hard to stop himself m smiling, but failed. “Yeah, I also see him in here,” he said honestly.
I chuckled at what I heard from him. “So I assume you liked him even before the bonfire?” I asked.
He nodded shyly. “Just don’t tell anyone. And stop asking questions if he’s here again please?” he pleaded.
“Okay, fine,” I answered while laughing a little.
We did not wait for too long as our order arrived immediately. Some special treatment, huh? “Thank you,” I said to the guy after he placed our orders at the table. The guy smiled at me before he turned to Cayden. Cayden also said his thank you in a flirty way before the guy smiled and nodded at him.
When the guy turned his back at us, I raised both of my eyebrows at Cayden to tease him. “Shut it, let’s just eat,” he said and shook his head, the smile on his lips can’t be erased.
I started eating and did not say a word after. While my friend was so busy glancing at the guy almost every minute.
“You can just invite him later to come with us if you like,” I suggested after a while.
His eyes grew bigger as he looked at me. “Are you serious?” he asked, looking so shocked.
I nodded while I chew on my pasta. “Of course, it’s fine with me,” I answered after I swallowed my food. “What’s his name again?” I asked my friend.
“His name is John,” he answered with dreamy eyes. I rolled my eyes at him.
“Stop that, you look so thirsty for him,” I joked, then chuckled.
That’s when he stopped glancing at the guy. I laughed at him when he acted prim and proper. “You ask him if he wants to join us,” I urged him.
So when John passed by our table, smiling at Cayden, my friend called him and boldly invited him.
“There’s a band playing tonight at the town square, would you like to come with us?” Cayden asked John.
John looked shocked, but then smiled and nodded at Cayden after a while. “Yeah, sure. My shifts about to end.”
Cayden nodded back. “Okay, we will just wait for you,” he said.
John nodded, too, before he turned his back on us with a smile on his face.
“Gosh, I’ll be your third wheel,” I joked while rolling my eyes. Cayden just laughed at me.
We stayed at the grill after eating to wait for John. When we saw him approaching us, wearing new clothes and looking fresh, Cayden and I stood up. “Let’s go?” John asked.
I nodded while my friend just smiled, feeling shy.
I motioned Cayden to walk beside John because he keeps on waiting for me. I am walking behind them buy my friend could not seem to leave me behind. “Just walk with him, I’ll be fine here,” I whispered when he waited for me again.
“I can’t leave you,” he whispered back while John is just walking with his eyes straight in front of him.
I rolled my eyes at Cayden. “I won’t get lost. I’ll be fine here!” I whispered again, but this time, with conviction.
Cayden sighed before he nodded. “Fine, just follow us. Don’t wander around,” he said before he walked faster to catch up with John.
The town square was already full of people when we arrived. We found a place where we could see the band. Cayden was between John and me. I smiled at Cayden when he turned to me.
We were just right in time because the band just started playing. We were banging our heads with the rhythm of the music. I was having a good time. But Cayden was having the best time because when I turned to him, he and John were already kissing.
I just laughed beside them. They did not mind me, though.
I just looked at the band who's playing in front, still enjoying the music, when a guy appeared beside me suddenly. I looked at the man beside me only to see Travis smiling at me.
I rolled my eyes at him and looked at the front again. I know he will just ruin my night. And I was not wrong when he poked my cheek.
I turned to him, irritation was evident on my face. “What the hell?!” I shouted at him.
“Nothing,” he said, then laughed. “I just saw you, and I thought you might need some company since your friend was with someone,” he said.
“I don’t need a company, especially if it's you. No, thanks,” I replied.
“I know you hate me, but could we just start over?” he said cutely.
Oh gosh, did I just say he is cute? Did I just compliment him? Erase that. He is ugly.
“I don’t want to be friends with you,” I said, harshly.
He looked sad after he heard what I just said. He did not say anything. I did not talk too. I looked in front now. We were silent for a minute or two before I heard Cayden’s voice. “Are you okay, Selena?” he asked.
I turned to my friend who is now done kissing with his boy. I saw that their hands are intertwined now.
“Yeah, it’s just Tra-“ my speech was immediately stopped when I turned to my left and saw that Travis wasn’t there anymore. Where did he go? “He was just here,” I whispered as I look around, but there was just no sign of him.
“Who was here?” Cayden asked then looked beside me and to where I was looking, too.
“Uh, Travis was here,” I told Cayden.
He raised a brow at me, looking suspicious. “He was here? Are you sure of that?” he asked again.
I nodded. I am sure of it. He was here earlier, but I didn’t know he already left.
“Maybe you’re just dreaming,” Cayden stated.
I glared at him. “Of course not!” I answered instantly. “Why would I dream about him? And in this crowd? I don’t even like the guy.” I added as I crossed my arms.
Cayden put his arm around my shoulder and pulled me to him. “Chill!” he laughed. “I just didn’t see him. Maybe he left before John and I ended kissing,” he joked.
Whatever.
But he was here, right? How fast can he leave the place? It wasn’t too long since I told him I can’t be friends with him. Where did he go?
After the band ended playing at the town square, Cayden and I decided to go home. John separated from us because his house was near the lake while Cayden and I are from the left side of the town square.
He walked me home. When we arrived at my house, I said thank you and goodbye to him before I closed the door of my house. I locked it before I went to my room to take a bath. As I lay on my bed, I remembered Travis.
Or maybe I was just dreaming? But why would I dream of him at the center of the town square with the bands playing and my friend kissing his crush?
