Chapter Four
The next week, we went to Clarksville High to get enrolled, I met with Cayden at the market. I was so thankful because Cayden was with me and he has been in this town since he was born and he went to this school since he was in Grade 7, so he knew every corner in this town. He made everything easy for me.
He helped me collect all the requirements and we both enrolled. Good thing we were classmates, too. When we were done enrolling, he toured me at the school too.
After we toured the school, we decided to eat lunch at the town’s market. “Hey,” I called Cayden when we were walking on the way to the market.
“Yeah?” he asked when he turned to me.
“I’ll treat you dinner,” I told him. “Where do you wanna eat?” I asked.
“Oh, no need. I can pay for my food.” He said while waving his hand in front of me.
I glared at him. “Please? Just let me pay. That’s my way of saying thank you for everything you have done for me since the day I moved here.” I said, pleading a little.
“Stop being mushy, Selene.” He rolled his eyes. “Okay, fine. You win.” He said like he knows he doesn’t have a choice.
I jumped on the sidewalk. “Yay!” I shouted. Cayden held my hand to stop me from jumping and shouting.
Cayden pulled me to a grill house. “This is where you want to eat?” I asked him.
“Yeah, your treat right?” he smirked.
I just shrugged. Well, whatever. I’ll still treat him wherever he wants.
He found a vacant table beside the glass wall. We sat there and he called for the waiter. The waiter went to our table and gave both of us the menu.
I opened it and looked for food that I want to eat, Cayden did the same. When I have already decided, I told the waiter my order. We waited for some moment for Cayden’s order before he made up his mind and told the waiter his order.
The waiter left us so Cayden and I talked about school-related kinds of stuff. He is giving me ideas on how to deal with our mean classmates and professors.
“The first thing you need to know is to go with the flow in terms of everything school-related. You don’t have to pressure yourself.” Now we have arrived on how to deal with school works. “Clarksville High was never strict that is why the students there are all care-free.” He winked.
I smiled and nodded at him. “I’ll keep that in mind,” I told him.
The waiter arrived with our food. We started eating while still talking. And now, we have arrived at the school parties and such.
“There are many parties at school. It depends on the student committee but so far, during my junior high school there, I have enjoyed all of their parties.” He said while
“I heard it’s fun having that kind of party,” I said while chewing on my food.
The night ended with him taking me home. When we arrived at my house, we just said good night to each other, then he went home.
Days passed by so fast. It was already the first day of school.
“Hey.” I greeted Cayden when he fetched me at my house. “Good morning.”
“Good morning to you, too.” He said. I closed the door of my house before we went to his car. He opened the shotgun seat for me.
“Thank you.” I smiled at him.
He nodded then went to the driver’s seat. He started driving to school.
“My mom is such a pain in the ass.” He started talking. “She went home drunk last night because dad went out of town.” He shook his head.
I turned to him. “Why would she do that?” I asked.
He shrugged. “He is accusing dad of having an affair with his co-worker.” He said.
“Is that even true?” I asked.
He didn’t answer. I guess even he doesn’t know the truth.
We arrived at school with me trying to cheer Cayden up. He smiles when I tell him a joke. I don’t like it if he is not in the mood because he was the one who always makes me smile and laugh all the time.
“Thank you.” He told me after he parked the car.
“What?” I asked. “I’m the one who should thank you,” I said. “You fetched me and brought me to school with you.”
He shook his head. “No, for trying to cheer me up,” he said. “It means a lot.”
I nodded and smiled at him. I opened the door to my side. “Let’s go?” I asked. He nodded so I went out of the car. I waited for him. He locked his car and we went straight to our class.
I sat beside Cayden. We were at the back, the center part of the classroom.
“Is this okay with you?” he turned to me and asked.
I nodded at him. “Of course,” I said, smiling.
The room was filled with students after some time. They just waited for their professor. When he arrived, they just had an introduction to the subject. When it was done, they were dismissed early.
They went to their next class after that. It was the same for all the subjects. They only had introductions so their day ended early.
“Do you want to go to town later? We will just have dinner.” Cayden asked when he was driving me home.
I pouted. “I don’t know. I just want to stay at home the whole day.” I told him.
He laughed at me. “Oh, no. We have to celebrate your first day of school here!” he exclaimed.
I rolled my eyes. “What is there to celebrate?” I asked, chuckling a little.
“Come on!” he looked at me, then returned his eyes to the road. “Don’t be such a killjoy.” He teased, laughing.
I laughed with him, too. “Fine, fine. You win.” I said. “But you have to fetch me later.” I continued.
He turned to me, nodding and smiling. I just want him to forget about his problems at home, that is why I’ll spend time with him later.
When he stopped in front of my house, I kissed his cheek and said goodbye to him. “I’ll see you later.” He clarified.
I smiled and nodded. “Yes. I’ll see you later.” I opened the door of his car. “Bye!” I waved at him when I was already out. He drove off and when he is out of my sight, I went inside my house.
I took a bath then went to my bed to have a nap. I still have time before the dinner I promised Cayden.
I did not know how long was I sleeping. I just woke up because of a knock at my door. “Wait a minute!” I shouted as I stood up from my bed.
The knocking keeps on. “Coming!” I shouted again as I hurry going out of my room.
I am going to kill Cayden! He still keeps on knocking!
“What the hell!” I shouted at him as soon as I opened the door. I saw him smiling widely at me, mocking me. I glared at him.
“Hello to you, too.” He said and went inside my house. “I knew you were sleeping.”
I rolled my eyes at him. “Wait for me here. I’ll just change.” I told him and left to go to my bedroom.
I changed my clothes fast because I know if I took a long time changing, he will bang my bedroom door like he did at my front door. When I was done, I went out of the room. Cayden immediately stood up when he saw me.
“Ready to go?” he asked. I nodded.
We went out of the house together and walked our way to the town.
“Where do you wanna eat? My treat.” He said as we walk side by side.
I shrugged. “I don’t know,” I said. “You can decide on it if you want,” I told him.
He inserted both of his hands in his pockets. “We will just decide when we get there.” He said. I nodded in approval.
“Hey, I heard there is a party tomorrow night,” Cayden said out of the blue. We were near the market now.
I turned to him. “Will you come?” I asked.
He shrugged. “I will if you will.” He said, smirking.
I rolled my eyes at him. I held on to his arms when we get to the town. “You are putting pressure on me.” I accused him.
He laughed. “Not really.” He answered. I laughed at him because I know what his intentions are.
“So, where do we eat?” he asked again.
I hit his arm that I am holding. “I told you, you decide,” I said.
“Fine. Mexican?” he asked, about the food.
I nodded in agreement so we went straight to the restaurant. We found a vacant table. We sat on the chair and Cayden called for the waiter.
“What do you want to eat?” he asked, scanning the menu. I opened the menu, too, but I can’t decide on what to order.
“Can you just order for me please?” I asked Cayden. He glared at me so I had to give him my sweetest smile.
I laughed when he rolled his eyes and nodded. “Thank you!” I said to him.
