GENESIS POV
I was till sleeping when Alex come to my ship which was technically my home and interrupted my beauty sleep.
“Genesis, mermaids are going North. The water has deficit of air and it has already killed two mermaids,” He explained sadly.
“What do you mean the water has oil?” I asked becoming fully awake.
“The humans are trying to kill us. They poured all this oil to suffocate us “Alex said with spite.
“I don’t think so,” I refused. I trusted humans to be good people and no one was going to take that away from me.
“As we are speaking, Laura and Aurora are dead,” He frowned.
“Huh, please tell me it’s a lie that our world is coming to an end yet I haven’t meet my prince charming,” I started freaking out.
A loud bang got our attention and my heart beat seven times faster.
“We are going to die,” I panicked.
“Follow me,” Alex who knew all corners of my house advised me to follow him. We hid in the furthest room and waited patiently so as to be safe.
After a couple of minutes, Alex left to go and check if everything was okay. He didn’t come back after a couple of minutes and I was alarmed. When I got out of the ship, I found my best friend suffocating and I knew I had to do something real quick. I started swimming North, far away from the shore and far away from the calamity that had befall us.
Alex struggled to breath and it killed me that I had not believed what he said earlier. I got tired of swimming but I kept moving forward. I was not going to let my friend die. I was not going to give up on Alex.
Not now or any time in the future.
THEON’S POV
I hoped Tiffany would not follow me as I rushed to the airport. I know I promised not to leave but I couldn’t help but try and save Genesis. She had saved me once and as a good person, I have to return this favor to her.
I was lucky to be in time to get the plane ticket and we left some minutes afterwards. Though the entire time, I just kept thinking of how I will mobilize a small ship with experts in life saving to try and save her. I would place her in a bath tub afterwards so that she does not suffer from the scorching sun.
Tessa was not waiting on me since I had not told her that I was visiting just on night after I left. Therefore, I had to take a cab to her place.
“Am I dreaming or something,” Tessa jested when she come to get the door after I rang the doorbell.
“Well, I am here once again,” I announced walking into my second home.
“What brought you here brother?” Tessa was strict in the question.
“What question is that, of course I come her because I have missed you,” I tried to cover the whole thing up laughing at the end.
“Don’t lie to me. I am no longer that little. You left yesterday in the afternoon and come back today in the morning. Just tell me what is happening. Are you having issues with Tiffany?” She implored.
“Now that I left, I think we have an issue,” That is all I said for myself before I went to my room.
I used her WI-FI connection to try and find the best lifesaving organizations around and it was all in vain. There was no way I was going to do this on my own. I had to tell Tessa because she kinds of knows more people than me now that she is an introvert.
We ate dinner in silence and after that is when I chose to tell them what I needed to so as to get the best lifesaving organization who will help me find Genesis.
“Tessa, Nicholas I know that it is weird of me to come here just a day after I left with the excuse of missing my sister. Anyway this is what I want to say. You all know that I am a marine scientist by profession and I have not exercised that since mom left us. She left me with a job that our brother killed me for. Please Tessa don’t be offended. I know you hate when I bring this topic up. This morning, I heard of the marine plants under siege and it moved me. I always wanted to study a certain species of plant in the ocean and if I don’t go and get the now, then thy will die forever. This plants will be important in the treatment of many viral infections.” I lied word by word.
“I am glad to hear you still have that passion in what you did in your undergraduate course. How can we help brother?” My sister was now talking.
“I need a motorboat with people trained in life saving so that we can go ahead and fish out those plants I am talking about.” I continued explaining.
“Well I know of an organization,” Nicholas who was silent all along chimed.
“Shoot me!”
“They are within the town, I am going to send you their contacts and from there the two of you can talk,” Nicholas explained.
“Thank you so much Nicholas, you have helped me a great deal.” I jested.
“What are family for?”
“Should we go with you in that operation to save those plants? We would gladly help,” Tessa tattled.
“Please don’t worry about that. You have already helped me enough. Thank you,” I gushed.
“Okay brother, have a good night,” Tessa cajoled.
“You too love birds,” I laughed walking upstairs.
Nicholas sent me the details of the facilitator of the project and we had a lengthy talk on what I wanted. We agreed to meet up the next morning by sunrise to start our hunt on the “plants”.
Before I slept, I tried calling Tiffany but her phone went directly to voicemail. I deserved that. Even though I am acting like a jerk for the wrong reason, I am still not treating her right. But I promise myself that as soon as I am done thanking her after saving her, I would never make Tiffany doubt my love for her again.
I texted her that I loved her, I went ahead to set my alarm before I finally fell asleep.
I was not a sleep long enough when my alarm shrieked. I wanted to snooze but when I remembered of my task this very day I got up and started preparing for the big day.
We met by the shore, the same place that I was saved days earlier. I had to change what we were looking for this instant and tell them the truth. I waited till we all changed to those lifesaving costumes before I went to the head of the operations.
“Hey, I was to tell you this yesterday but I never wanted anyone to know in our family. Please respect that and don’t ask me why.” I started with an excuse.
“So what is it?” He croaked.
“I want us to find a mermaid. Please,” I begged and he glared at me. I was waiting for his response with my heart pounding.
“Well, that is okay.” He said after a long while.
“Finally I have found someone who believes in mermaids like I do,” I testified.
“Mermaids do exist.” He jested.
“Have you personally seen one?” I asked him.
“In my experience, I have seen quite a lot. Why do you ask?” He scoffed.
“I met one and her name is Genesis,” I added thinking that h will be aware of Genesis.
“I didn’t know they have names but it is all right. How else can we identify her “He confirmed.
“All I know is that she is pretty,” I didn’t know the weight of what I said till I complete saying it.
“Huh, alright.”
“Life savers please lets go in the waters, look at everything we can to try and locate a pretty, mermaid.” He announced and the lifesaving squad cheered.
That was the beginning of our search for Genesis. We spent the entire day looking and locating and it was all in vain. We only come across two dead mermaids.
One of the man went down to an abandoned ship to try and locate a mermaid but it was all in vain.
I felt lost and heartbroken when they called out the search. I couldn’t take it that I have failed her. The facilitator told me he was sorry about the whole thing and this made me feel worse about everything that happened. Therefore, I decided to try and do the saving on my own by diving in the Indian Ocean.
I know this is threatening my life but I felt a strong desire to save her and I didn’t hold myself back.
The water was too heavy to kick and I think I am gasping for, for ai…ai...airrr….
