Between Two Mates

Chapter 7

-Rose POV-

“Why is this happening to me? Why did it have to be like this? Why couldn’t finding my mate situation be normal just like everyone else? It’s not fair.”

I lie with my stomach down on my bed, my face facing the wall.

I groan. “Mhhh!”

All I want to do is see him. I want to run out, find him and hug him. But I am not supposed to come out of my room. Alpha Maximus told us that the three of us are supposed to stay in our rooms for today until our emotions calm down a bit.

“He’ll choose me... right?” I speak to myself.

(No, I can’t think like this.)

The mate bond can really mess with us. Even if he wanted me at the beginning, his feelings can change because of his wolf. So, I can’t just think that he’ll choose me. I have to be ready for anything.

I sigh. In two days is supposed to be the last day of school for Helix and Cooper. We were all supposed to go to a party Cooper is throwing together. Now I don’t know if we will be going. I was so looking forward to it.

A knock comes on my door.

“Come in.” I say as I sit up.

Nova walks in. “I just heard what happened. This is all bull s**t!”

I nod. “Yeah, it is.”

“The goddess really crewed up this time. Big time!” She says.

I lift an eyebrow, “I heard you saying something like that when you and Dominic found out you were mates.”

“Well... I can make mistakes too.”

The two of them are inseparable now.

“Well don’t worry.” She says. “He is going to choose you. It’s always been you and just to be safe, I’m going to go give him a piece of my mind right now.”

“Don’t do that.”

“Oh, I will.”

I roll my eyes but let it be because once she makes up her mind about something, no one can unmake it.

“I never liked Harper.” She suddenly says.

I am surprised. “What? You always seemed like you did.”

“Because you were friends with her. But I never really liked her. Or maybe it was because of her mom. When they got here, her mom was so entitled. She acted like a snob.” She then looks at me and smiles. “So, you fought Harper?”

“It’s not like you think, Nova. I am not like you. I don’t know how to fight as you do and I don’t think she does either so it was a... hair pulling kind of thing.”

“Uh!... you should let me train you so next time you can kick her ass. Or better yet, I’ll do it for you.”

I shake my head. “No, Nova. I don’t like fighting and I also don’t want you to hurt Harper.”

“Oh, goddess! Don’t tell me you still think she is your friend.”

“No. That all went out the window. I think she just hung out with me because of Helix. But I don’t want to hurt her. I just want her to... go away.”

Nova smirks. “I can help with that.”

“No Nova. Stop acting like a hitman.”

She laughs. “Okay okay.” She sighs. “I guess since I am future Luna, I can’t be... disposing of pack members.”

“Yea, you think?” I mock her.

She smiles and gets up. “I’m going to go see Helix.” She suddenly gets all up in my face and pulls my shirt up.

“What the hell Nova!”

She doesn’t stop until she takes my shirt off and leaves me in my bra.

“I am taking this to Helix. Make him think about you. It has your fresh scent so it’s going to drive him crazy.”

I shake my head as she leaves my room while laughing.

She can be too much sometimes, but I love her.

Before I can move, my door flies open.

I squeal.

“What the hell! Put a shirt on!” Gabriel shouts, covering his eyes.”

“You are the one that didn’t knock!” I get up and quickly put on the first thing I see.

When I am covered, he looks at me. “Are you okay?”

I really hate this. Everyone is going to start acting weird now.

“As good as I can be.” I respond.

He nods. “I guess being apart from him doesn’t help your mood.”

(Yea, it sucks.)

I just found my mate and when that happens all a werewolf wants to do, is be with them. But I can’t.

He shrugs and starts to walk out the door. “You can always call him.” He mumbles.

With a crack, my head quickly turns to my phone. I swear I almost broke my neck.

I quickly pick up my phone and look at his number.

“The Alpha didn’t say we couldn’t talk...” I whisper.

I instinctively hit the call button and it starts ringing.

“Hello.” He quickly picks up and I am now panicking.

His voice makes me shiver but I don’t know what to say.

“Rose?” He asks.

“Uh... yea.”

He takes a deep breath. “I... I’m sorry. This wasn’t supposed to be like this.”

“I... know.” I respond. “This is complicated for all of us.”

“Rose, I was sure of what I wanted and I think I still am but... my wolf-”

“I know. He is confused.”

“Yeah. The mate bond is pulling us both in different directions. He has, basically tunnel vision when one of you is in front of us.”

I stay quiet listening to him but then he stops.

“Hey...” He softly says almost in a sultry tone. “... I knew you were my mate.”

My heart beats fast and heat rises inside my chest. I want to hug him, kiss him, I want to be with him.

I take another deep breath. “I want to be with you, Helix. This hurts so much.”

“I’m sorry Rose. I’m so sorry.”

I shake my head though he can’t see it. “Stop apologizing. It’s not your fault.”

“Goddamit. This is so hard.” He says.

(This is hard)

“I think it's just best to wait till tomorrow. To see what the plan will be.” I say.

“Yeah.” He says but sounds sad.

Suddenly, I can hear the door to his room open.

“What the...” Helix mumbles.

“Here stupid!” I hear Nova say. “Suffer a little.”

I can hear Helix catch something and then he inhales.

I know that this crazy woman just gave him my shirt. I can hear the door close and then there is just silence.

“He... Helix?”

He takes a short subtle breath. “I’m... here.” He whispers.

“Okay... see you tomorrow then.” I say.

I hang up before he can say anything else. I put my phone down and I almost want to cry.

(I really hate this.)

The day seems to go by slowly. I barely sleep that night and when morning comes. I quickly get ready. When everyone is ready, we head downstairs. All I can think about is seeing him. Even just getting a glimpse of him would be fine.

When we enter the office, he isn't there yet but Harper is. Alpha Maximus and Laura are there too. My mother puts a hand on my shoulder, showing me support. But somehow, I don’t feel like instantly jumping Harper and ripping her apart. My wolf seems calmer and I can tell that so is Harper.

Clearly, emotions were running high yesterday. I mean we suddenly found out that we both were mated to the same guy. Anyone would go crazy.

With suddenness, Helix’s scent hits us both. We both look towards the door before it even opens. When it does open, Helix and his parents walk in. Nova and Dominic follow them in as well.

My eyes roam his body as if he was a piece of candy. I want him so badly in every single way. My wolf is getting impatient.

“Good, we are all here.” Maximus says.

Helix’s eyes quickly find me and then they go to Harper. He closes his eyes as he takes a deep breath and then when he seems calm, he opens his eyes back.

“Have you given any thought to this?” Maximus asks.

“This is all I have been thinking all night but... nothing has come out of it.” Helix says.

“How is this possible.” Laura asks.

“Is there no way that you can try?” Maximus asks.

Helix shakes his head. “My wolf won’t let me. He doesn’t know what... who, he wants.”

Maximus nods.

“He is too young to be able to reign in his wolf.” Lucas—his dad— says.

Maximus nods again. “I agree.” He looks at Helix. “You need to learn to take full control of your wolf. His emotions shouldn’t rule you but it is understandable. You are just eighteen.” He now looks at Dominic. “Dominic will start training you.”

“I will?” Dominic asks, taken by surprise.

“How long... is this going to take?” Harper asks.

I want to know the same thing.

“It could take months even years.”

Her eyes widen and so do mine.

“How the hell can we all control ourselves for that long?” I say without even thinking it.

Maximus nods his head. “This will be hard, yes. But there is no other way.”

“First things first.” My dad says. “I think that three of them need to have a civilized conversation. There has to be an understanding of how things need to work for now. The fighting has to stop.”

I look at my dad, narrowing my eyes.
