Between Two Mates

Chapter 5

-Helix POV-

(WHAT THE f**k DO I DO NOW?)

I look between both of them and they look between them and me. We are all caught by surprise. But then, they look at each other and something clicks, not in a good way.

“No! This is not happening!” Rose says.

“No, it is not! He is my mate!” Harper shouts.

(Oh f**k!)

“Like hell! He is my mate! I knew he was my mate since my birthday!” Rose shouts back.

(Oh f**k!)

My mind is blank and that is all I can think of.

“He... is mine.” Harper’s voice goes low and her stance turns defensive.

Rose huffs and squares up to her. “No, he is not.” Her voice is also low.

(Oh... f**k!)

I am paralyzed, watching as they start growling at each other.

“You never even liked him!” Rose shouts.

“Yes, I did! I just never said anything!” Harper shouts back.

“What the hell is wrong with these two?” Tory suddenly says standing next to me on my right side.

Both Harper and Rose turn to Tory. “SHUT UP!” They both shout at the same time.

“Uhm... whaaat am I missing?” Cooper says now also standing next to me on the left.

My hands go to my head and I pull my hair. “I... am so fucked.”

“I am warning you... stay, away, from him!” Harper says pointing a finger at Rose.

“NO! I won’t. He belongs to me!” Rose shouts.

“Dude, what is going on?” Cooper asks me in a whisper.

I look at him with a blank expression. “I... am... so fucked.”

“That doesn’t explain s**t to me.” Cooper says.

Anyone knows that I would easily pick Rose if it was just up to me but now, I feel with Harper the same attraction that I feel towards Rose.

(How is this possible?)

I always liked Harper from the moment I met her but I never felt that attraction... maybe it’s because I was clouded with the way I felt about Rose and I mean almost every time I saw Harper she was with Rose.

(Goddess! Why did you do this to me?! Have I really been that bad?!)

My thoughts come back to the situation in front of me when both Rose and Harper look at me.

“Tell her that I am your mate.” Rose says.

Harper shakes her head. “No. I can feel it. It’s me.” She looks at me. “Tell her.”

“What?... Why are you too saying that?” Tory asks confused.

“Yeah...” Cooper says but suddenly looks like he is thinking. “Oh...” He gasps. “... OH!” He now realizes what is going on.

He looks at me with his eyes wide, then at the girls, and then back at me again.

“How? Wow! Yea... you are so screwed.”

“What? Why?” Tory asks.

“They are both his mate.” Cooper says.

Tory shouts. “What?!”

“NO! We are not! I am.” Harper says.

“I’m going to rip you apart if you keep saying that!” Rose shouts at her.

I have never seen Rose like this. She reminds me of Nova when she gets angry.

“Try it! I am of Alpha blood and you are a beta. Who do you think is going to win?” Harper says.

(Harper is an Alpha? Ia m so stupid. Of course, she is. She is the granddaughter to the Alpha of one of our ally packs. I never gave that much thought.)

I realize that I really don’t know much about her.

Rose growls at her and Haper growls back.

Cooper elbows me. “Do something, dude.”

I clear my throat. “Uh... you both need to stop.”

Neither of them listens to me. People are starting to arrive at the school and stop to see what is going on.

“Rose, Harper, please.” I say.

“Then tell her I am your mate.” Harper says.

Rose shakes her head. “No, I am.”

“I... I can’t.”

“Why!” Harper shouts.

Rose also looks at me looking confused and angry.

“I... I can’t choose right now. Not like this!”

“What? But you always knew we were mates. We both did.” Rose says.

“I know... but now... it’s complicated. I feel the same for Harper as I do for you.”

(My stupid wolf!!! How can you do this to me now!? It’s supposed to be Rose!)

I can see hurt appear on Rose’s face but it quickly turns into anger.

“You can’t have both of us!” She shouts.

People around us start to whisper and mumble.

“Let's go outside.” I say.

“No!” Rose shouts.

“If you can’t choose, I’ll do it for you.” Harper says.

She looks at Rose as if she is ready to pounce on her but Rose does it first. Harper slams on the locker but quickly grabs Rose by the hair. Now they are both tangled up and people, instead of helping, cheer.

I run towards them and grab Harper who is closest to me. There is no denying it. I have a mate bond with her because the moment her skin touches mine, I can feel it.

Cooper holds Rose and we both pull them away from each other. They both go screaming trying to get their hands at the other.

“Let me go!”

“I’m going to kill her!”

“Enough people.” Tory says to the gathered crowd. “This is none of your business.” She puts her hands out and starts pushing people away.

Cooper and I pull Rose and Harper back down the hall while they both fight us to get out of our grip. We reach the doors that go out to the front of the school and take them both outside.

We don’t let them go until we reach the parking lot.

“You both need to calm down. We need to talk this out.” I say.

“Yea. You are both friends.” Cooper says.

They both take deep breaths and when they are calm, we let them go.

I also take a deep breath. “Okay-”

Before I can continue, they run toward each other and start fighting again. They fight like most human females fight. Pulling hair, scratching, and slapping but it is clear that Harper is a bit stronger than Rose.

With frustration, Cooper and I grab them again.

Rose has never really trained as Nova has. So, she only has the basic experience and I don’t know much about Harper but it’s always seemed like she has had a sheltered life, and judging by the way she fights, I don’t think she has much training either. This is good because that means that they won't really hurt each other.

We pull them apart and hold them tight.

“I need to call my parents!” I shout at Cooper so he can hear me through the girl's screams.

He nods.

With struggle, I take my phone out and manage to call my dad.

“Hello, Helix?”

“Yea, dad. I need help.”

He sighs. “What did you do now?”

I roll my eyes. “Not a single thing. This time this is not my fault... well... maybe it could be.”

(I am starting to think that the Goddess might be angry with me.)

“What the hell is all that yelling?”

“I’m gonna kill you!” Harper shouts

“NO! I’m going to kill you first!” Rose shouts back.

“Dad...” I plead and start telling him everything.

Within minutes, my parents and Alpha Maximus arrive. Cooper and I are still holding Rose and harper.

Alpha Maximus looks at me with his normal stern expression. “You. Always you Helix. If it’s not Nova, it's you.”

I awkwardly smile. “A little help?” I say.

He takes Harper and effortlessly subdues her, taking her to his car. My dad does the same with Rose and takes her to his car, finally separating them.

Mom walks up to me with a strained fake smile. “Did I not tell you, sweety, that you'd be paying for all the s**t you put everyone through, especially me.”

I gasp while Cooper laughs.

“Gee, thanks, mom.”

“You are my son and I love you. But you are insufferable sometimes... just like Nova.”

I look away and mumble. “I wonder who we got it from...” I look at her and I know I shouldn’t be saying this, but I do anyway. “...these kinds of things are inherited by parents.”

She gives me a sweet smile... a fake sweet smile. “Do you want to find out.” She says softly.

I shake my head telling her no and roll my eyes but she is not wrong though I am not admitting it to her. Nova and I have always been too wild and like to cause problems, unlike Stella who has always been quiet and sweet.

Mom walks up to dad’s car and gets in.

I take another deep breath looking at the sky and asking myself in my head “Why is this happening?”

Cooper pats my shoulder. “Good luck man.”

I nod and groan. “I am so fuuuucked!”

He laughs and nods.
