Chapter 3

1538 Words
-Rose POV- There is no one around us but Nova shouts with conviction. “I HATE YOU HELIX!! My face cringes when I see her hair color bleeding down to her bathing suit and skin. We went for a swim and that was definitely a bad idea for her. “I am going to strangle him in his sleep.” She mumbles. “Please don’t.” I almost plead. She grunts annoyed. We both swim back to the edge. “You are a pink horror, Nova.” Harvey—one of our friends— says. He is one of my brother’s best friends along with Dominic. “Why on earth do you have to remind me. I have eyes you know. It’s not like I don’t see it!” Nova is really pissy today. “Geeze. Okay. Sorry.” He says. “Well... it’s rude. It’s like saying to someone that they are skinny or fat when they already know that because they see their body every day. They don’t need to be constantly reminded of something that makes them uncomfortable and creates more insecurities.” She throws her hands in the air. Harvey sighs and mumbles. “Great, she went on a rant.” I get out of the lake also with a sigh and wrap my towel around me. I take my clothes with me and then, both Harvey and I start backing up while Nova continues on her rant. I look at Dominic and smile. “She’s all yours.” He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath while we leave him. We walk back to where my brother Gabriel is now with Harper and I start putting my clothes back on over my bathing suit. “Helix is going to push Nova too hard one of these days and she is going to flip out on him.” Gabriel says. We all nod completely agreeing. “Who are we talking about?” We all look in shock at Dylan. Harvey’s eleven-year-old little brother. Harvey gasps. “What the hell are you doing here?!” “I came with you.” Dylan says. “Da f**k you did!” Harvey argues. “Oh, but I did.” He gives him a big smile. “I jumped in the back of your Jeep before you left.” “You can’t be here!” Harvey shouts. “Yes, I can. These are my friends too!” “This is a grown-up party! “And? I am going to be twelve in a few weeks! I am not a kid!” “f*****g hell! Come on!” Harvey says as he starts to walk back to the parking area. “But I don’t want to go!” Dylan shouts. “Oh, you’re going. Mom is going to kill me if she finds out you are here.” “Screw you.” Dylan mumbles. We then watch as Dylan runs into the crowd and disappears. Harvey turns back to see his brother gone. “You little fucker!” He shouts and runs into the crowd to look for him. Of course, we are all laughing. Lately, Dylan has been trying to hang out with us. Which is cute but we are not the best role models for him. Especially his older brother, Harvey. I look around and notice Helix in the distance talking with his friend and no Tory in sight. I smile to myself. “I’ll be right back.” I say to the others. I walk in Helix’s direction but before I can get to him, the b***h Tory stands in front of me and drops her drink all over my chest. “Oh! Oops!” She says trying to look innocent but she obviously did it on purpose. “What the hell?!” She leans in and whispers. “Guess you need to go change.” She winks at me. “Leave Helix to me. I’ll keep him company.” I huff with anger and slap the cup right out of her hand, making what is left of the drink spill all over her. She gasps, looking down at her clothes, and then looks at me. I give her a satisfied smile. Her eyes fill with anger and she pushes me. I push her back and the next thing we know, we are slapping, scratching, and pulling each other’s hair. Neither of us are fighters so I would call this a b***h fight. “Ah! I hate you!” We both scream and shout at each other. All the others run to us and separate us. Harvey pulls Tory and someone else pulls me while we both still try to hit each other. I throw a kick in the air while I am being pulled back and hit her on her jaw. “You b***h!” She squeals. I feel completely satisfied. Tory is a werewolf from my own pack, so I don’t have to hold back. She can take it. I give her a mocking laugh and don’t take my eyes off of her until I am pulled to a secluded area at the edge of the lake and my eyes land on Helix, who is the one that pulled me away from the fight. “Helix...” I whisper. He smiles. “You okay there, killer?” I take a deep breath. “Yep. I won that.” I say and look away. He chuckles. “Yea you did. I also heard what she said. You have nothing to worry about, you know.” “Then why do you give her so much attention?” I ask. I never want to show that I am a bit jealous but I can’t help it. His eyes look away, nervousness written all over his face. “Ah... she’s my friend. But that is all she is to me.” “Really? And... me?” He stares at me, unsure of what to say, then looks down. “You know, Rose. You know how I feel about you.” Since my eighteen birthday over a year ago, we’ve both have the feeling that we are mates. I felt so attracted to him the moment I saw him that day but since he was younger than eighteen, there was no way of knowing, and we’ve never really discussed it either. I nod looking at him and I feel like I don’t want to hold back anymore. I lean in ready to make a move on him and this is when he starts to look really nervous. “R... Rose-” He studders. I put my finger over his lips and stop him from saying anything else. When I take my finger away, we look into each other’s eyes. For a few seconds, I am in a trance and I can tell that so is he. Unable to control it any longer, I lean up on my tippy toes and touch his lips with mine. I can hear him giving a small gasp. He pulls away just a little but then stops, and relaxes while I continue to softly kiss him. The contact between our lips feels perfect. (He has to be my mate. I’m sure of it.) My lips softly caress his. It is so soft and we barely touch it that it almost feels as if it was the wind kissing our skin. I can feel the heat coming from him and I am also feeling hotter than normal. We both want each other. Before we can deepen the kiss, we hear steps coming from behind us. Helix jumps, startled, and stumbles back, falling to the ground. I gasp. “Oh... are you okay?” I lean down and help him up. “Y... yea.” He says. His face is as red as a tomato. When he is up, I look back. “Are you okay, Rose?” Harper asks. Harvey, Gabriel, Dominic, and Nova are with her. I nod. “Whooo the heeell does that b***h think she is?” Nova says looking back towards the distance where Tory stands with her friends. “I’m fine, Nova.” “That’s good, but that girl just got on my bad side.” She says. We all know that that is definitely not a good thing. Nova smiles to herself and as she touches her hair, she mumbles. “I might be taking a note from Helix’s book.” My eyes dart to the side where I see Dylana and I almost gasp. I quickly look at Harvey. “You couldn’t find Dylan?” He almost growls. “No!” I point towards the crowd. Everyone looks where Dylan is dancing with two older girls. It is dirty. They twerk on him and he is just living it up as if he was a college boy on spring break. Harvey narrows his eyes. “Are you kidding me?” My brother Gabriel laughs. “Haha! He has more game than you do!” Harvey sprints towards Dylan but Dylan spots him immediately and takes off running. “You little s**t head!!” Harvey shouts. “Come back!” Dylan laughs as he runs. “Never!”
