“Can I walk you inside, just to make sure you made it safe?” said Ben looking in the rare view mirror. Eddie has been a little distant since he got inside the car, and Ben didn’t like it at all. The thought that Eddie could be warm one minute and cold the other was driving him crazy because he wondered what had he done wrong. He didn’t want to anger him or was he already insecure? “I’m already by the door, Ben I’m sure I can make it two more floors without you holding my hand” he answered with a heavy heart, he didn’t know what to do at that moment. He liked Ben, he really did but the last relationship he had was in high school and it did not end well. As you could have guest and he haven’t given anyone a chance since then, but who could blame him after what his first love did to him. “I know, but you haven’t felt the shock of what had happened yet, someone tried to kill you Eddie, okay humour me just this once, I just want to make sure, when the adrenaline catch up with your body, you’re safely at home.” Eddie cheeks got heated again. He loved how Ben was not afraid to tell him how he was feeling unlike him. The man was not lying when he said he worry about him so it was not wrong to let him walk him by the door was it? “Okay” he answered opening the door, and Tyra almost laughed at their interactions this two were in love already, how can two people be so in love after meeting for a few hours and not even know it? I guess people were not wrong when they said love at first sight was real. They walked into the building and Ben went straight to the elevator and Eddie held his hand to stop him, and his cheek heated once again, his hand was warm, and it made him feel things he was not ready for. “Its not working, so we use the stairs” he cleared his throat by he couldn’t move his hand away from Ben, and Ben cheeks heated. He loved the feel of Eddie's small hand in his, they were firm, and you could tell he used them a lot. To work of cause. He thought fast before his subconscious could put very dirty pictures in his head. “Lead the way” he smiled as Eddie finally took his hand back leaving both cold, and wanting that feeling back. The walk to the apartment was quiet both in their thought wondering that was going to happen when they reached the door. They were so new in this and they wondered if it was okay, to hug maybe a kiss on the cheek or a handshake? Or just a formal thank you and goodbye? They both wondered, they so nervous at saying goodbye but that decision was made the moment Eddie saw his grey door with gold three digit numbers open. He didn’t realise he stopped moving until Ben who was also lost in his thought bumped into him, his body touching his back. “What’s wrong?” he whispered in his ear but this time he didn’t even shudder at the thought of him being this close to him. Eddie was a very cautious person, and he knew he will never ever leave the door open, something was wrong. “Someone is in my apartment” he finally spoke his hand sweaty and shaking, and Ben looked around and saw the only opened door and left Eddie standing next to the stairs and ran to the open door, trying to find the thief at work. He had told Eddie earlier that he saw what happened, and that car was deliberately gunning for him, but Eddie didn’t believe him. “What are you doing?” yelled Eddie running after Ben when he saw him moving to his apartment door. The thief could still being there, they should call the police first. “Going to catch the mf” he answered nonchalant and Eddie reached his side and his hand went to his wrist trying to stop him. “Lets call the police first Ben, he might hurt you?” his cheek got pink for admitting he also didn’t want to see him hurt, and if he got hurt it will be his fault. “Don’t worry, Eddie just go back to the car, and stay with Tyra. I can handle this” he answered and without thinking he kissed his cheek going inside the house, and Eddie blushed red until he realised what had happened, Ben just treated him like a girl. He ran after him angry, he was not a girl and just like Ben, he could handle the thief, okay at least he could scream so loud the neighbour’s will be able to hear because he really was not a fighter. He got inside the house, and Ben was holding an umbrella checking all the rooms, his house was trashed, everything was tossed and his couches cut with what seemed like a dagger and photo frames on the wall thrown on the floor and the glasses covering them shattered, the person really did a number to his house, and Eddie couldn’t breath. This was too much, he had just got this apartment six months ago after saving for a long time. He couldn’t afford to replace anything. “I think they already left” said Ben coming out of the bathroom, going to the pale man leaning on the wall. “ Are you okay? I told you to go to go to the car, but you’re just stubborn” he held him tight on his chest trying to calm him down. This was no accident the thief was there to destroy Eddie’s apartment nothing else because he didn’t take anything valuable, even the plasma television, and all electronic were dumped in the bathroom full of hot water “they trashed my apartment, what am I supposed to do now? Who would do this? I don’t even have friends and I’m not rich, I have nothing of value, Ben who would want to do this to me?” Eddie was hysterical now, the stress of the whole day getting to him. “I don’t know but I’m going to find out, okay? I’m going to keep you safe no matter what” he rubbed his back and Tyra who had been waiting in the car, and got bored finally reached the open door after threatening a neighbour to show him where Eddie the lawyer stays or he was going to regret the day he was born. And the poor man was so afraid he showed her quickly before running away. “What the hell happened in here?” she shouted by the door and the two broke the hug the were enjoying. “I don’t know ma'am. I don’t know who would even want to steal anything for me, I have nothing of value, damn I use the same laptop I been using in high school” sniffed Eddie with red eyes, he really thought he was cut out for the city but I guess his mother was right. He should have stayed at home with her. The drive would have just been forty five minutes every morning. “First of all don’t ever call me ma'am, I’m Tyra or Ty as Ben calls me. And this is either a coincidence or you really owe some bad people money.” Ben glared at Tyra who was scaring the poor man. Why would she even say that. Couldn’t she see Eddie was already scared? “I don’t owe anyone anything I swear, ma'.. I mean Tyra. I don’t know anyone in the city yet” Eddie tried to explain but Ben came close rubbing his back again, and Eddie leaned into his touch. “We are going to find out who did this, I promise Eddie we will.” He soothed the man while Tyra walked around shaking her head. This was just not an accident someone deliberately did this. She gave Ben a knowing look and he nodded. He was also thinking the same thing all this were related. Someone was either trying to scare or kill Eddie. “So, Eddie do you have anywhere you can go to? A safe place?” asked Tyra already having a plan in her head, maybe this was not a bad thing after all. Even the fates wanted them together it seems. “No, but I can call one of my brother’s to fetch me” he sniffed. This was too much, for a man who lived in a small suburban community where everyone knew everyone and everything. Another reason he wanted to be far from them. Life was not as colourful as they made it seem in that community, and he knew his parents couldn’t afford to move. Truth be told they couldn’t even afford to stay there but their grandparents had bought the place cash, so they have to worry about the mortgage, and his parents thought it was a good place to raise him and his six siblings. “Don’t worry, that’s not what I meant, I have an apartment with a spare bedroom, and I’m sure Ben won’t mind you using the guest room” she smiled happily and Ben lips stretched into a smile, Tyra was using this to her advantage and Ben didn’t mind it. Things will be much easier if Eddie was next to him for the case of cause. “I don’t want to be a bother, and you two don’t even know me, it will be wrong for me to take advantage of you like this, I’m sure the bedroom is fine and I can clean and sleep in there, I don’t need much anyway” he tried to explain but Tyra was not having it. Ben frowned at the thought of leaving him in a trashed place like this. He couldn’t let it happen even if he had to carry the man to his apartment. “Ow, Eddie I don’t mean to scare you, but they might come back again, and I don’t want you hurt, so I insist you live in my apartment for now, okay? We don’t mind, and you will never be a bother. I mean you were supporting my husband diner everyday for months now, that’s the least we can do for you, and don’t worry Ben, won’t mind sharing, would you Benny bear?” she teased but the truth is even Eddie's bed was trashed. The thief took his time to make sure nothing ever survive in the apartment. “I won’t mind, and this will give us a chance to find out who is trying to scare you” Ben said. He didn’t want to say ‘kill’ because that would be too much for Eddie to handle. He was so delicate. “Okay, Let me pack some of my things, and search for my laptop for work.” Tyra gave Ben a knowing look, she really thought he had told him that everything was deep in water. “Yeah, you can use my laptop for now, until we can get you a new one” and Eddie eyes went wide he really had too much information in there just to be lost like that .but he nodded anyway, these people were giving him so much already and he was not going to be a brat and whine about a laptop. He went to his trashed room and was able to pack the clothes they didn’t tore apart in a small bag. Wondering who would want to hurt him like this? But only one person kept coming in his head over and over again. Mr. Davis who was still in lockup, was he capable of doing this even behind locked cells just because he had hugged his wife? Maybe aggravating him was a bad idea after all. But he couldn’t put it past the angry lawyer who used to throw pranks in law school scaring other learners because of his family status, was Smith a sore loser? Because it was clear Eddie had this case wrapped up already.
