Cody stood by the door leading to the basement. About to head on in when Sapphire stopped him. It was weird to see that she was defending Skylar for once in her life but it was apparent that she wasn’t hiding anything so he stood back to let her speak. “I think that must be my cousin, she just recently moved in and I think she must be moving some things around.”
“Your cousin sleeps in the basement?” Cody gave her a puzzled look.
“Weird, I know right but she chose to stay there just because she refuses to be around me and of all the rooms she could have chosen she chose the basement so that she has easier access to a big room for her training or whatever she calls it.” Sapphire said in a sassy tone.
Skylar rolled her eyes, “Are you done flirting yet? We haven’t got all day.” She felt a little jealous for a bit but then the thoughts of once having had dated Cody brought back the terrible memories of how she had been a fool in his little game. She was still sulking about being a fool. She had never seen it coming, especially from her brother.
Sapphire leaned in to kiss Cody and looked over at Skylar’s annoyed face. “Come on, let’s leave these two lovebirds to smooch. We have better things to do anyway.” Carson said, sending a darting stare at Cody. That was when Cody backed away from Sapphire and marched his way out the door.
“Whatever game you guys are playing, I’m not buying the fact that you just sent my boyfriend out the door with just a stare.” Sapphire protested.
“We all saw what happened. Who asked you to have messed with Skylar first. That was just payback for whatever torment you’ve placed on Skylar.” Carson grinned. “We all know that you and Cody are dating but why play with both of their feelings when you obviously have better things to do.”
Skylar caught a glimpse of the necklace around Sapphire’s neck as they continued to argue. “Hey, where did you get that necklace?”, Skylar asked curiously.
“Oh this little thing?” She took the necklace by the pendant. “-It’s nothing. It was just a gift from my cousin. She gave it to me as a gift in exchange for a place to stay.”
“Why would she have given you a necklace? I mean like you have so many already and whatever is it for?”
“Probably just as a treaty gift. She knows how much I love receiving presents.”
“Yeah, I’m sure she does. So do you have a karaoke room in this fortress? I feel like singing a little. There isn’t much to do anyways.”
“Do I hear a suggestion for a singing competition? - All you had to do was ask.” Sapphire was relieved that she didn’t need to deal with Carson’s constant arguments. She also wondered how Skylar could tolerate having all that burden on her shoulder but dared not ask. Though there were times that Sapphire showed her exterior self as confident and strong but the truth was that she was just as timid as a mouse. “Come on, this way. I’ll get Joe to set it up for us.”
“This better be interesting.”, Carson whispered into Skylar’s ear as they followed Sapphire to the room. “What exactly are you planning to do?”
“I’m just buying Elyssa and Alec more time. They need it. But I just hope that Cody doesn’t figure out our little plan or we’re screwed.”
“Speak of the devil.” He looked over at Cody who was walking towards them. “Act natural. He can sense if we’re hiding something.” He cleared his thoughts before Cody passed.
“Here we are.” Sapphire announced. “Take your pick.” She continued to display her collection of microphones.
“Wow. You sure are a fan of singing, aren’t you?” Skylar continued to choose the microphone that had aquamarine gems-stickers stuck all over the body. “So how long have you been in vocal classes?”
“Oh my gosh, how did you know about my vocal classes? But I did drop it after I sang at Cody’s bar and people loved it.” Sapphire started to find the connection wires to connect everything to the system.
“Don’t you find it a little odd that you can automatically sing perfectly without any sort of extra classes or any talent in singing?” Skylar was trying to piece everything together and correlated the fact that Sapphire’s singing had something to do with the fact that both Cody and Tyler had gone loco.
“I think that the lord has finally come around, letting me finally have the voice of an angel.” Sapphire picked up the remote to pick a song to start it off. After an amazing performance, Sapphire looked over at Skylar and said, “Beat that...”
You asked for it... Skylar said to herself getting up. I’m sorry, Carson. She directed the thoughts to Carson. The moment she started singing, Cody and Tyler were shocked to hear that Skylar’s voice was as enchanting as Sapphire’s. “How was that for a challenge?”, she continued to say to Sapphire after finishing her singing.
Sapphire applauded sarcastically. “Well-played, Skylar Marais or is it Frost now?”
“You are so on.”
“If it is a challenge you suggest, it is a challenge I would give you. - But there has to be a price for the winner of the competition.”, Sapphire added.
“Very well, if I win, I want that necklace around your neck and custody of my brother’s back.”
“And what if I win? - I get to keep the necklace and your brothers, as a bonus, I might take Carson too.”
“Isn't two boys giving you their undivided attention enough for you?”, Skylar protested.
“Oh Skylar, it is never enough. So do we have a deal?”
Skylar reluctantly put her hand out to shake Sapphire’s hands. “But you better stick to your end of the bargain, okay?”
“Sure. - By the way, the boys are the judges of this little competition.”
“Hey, that’s not fair. You already have two boys on your side.”
“That’s exactly the reason why you should really hope that they go to your side of this deal. - Oh yeah, tough luck, Skylar.”
They started taking the stage, Skylar was up first, I’m so sorry, Carson. She apologized to Carson hoping that he would forgive her for putting him in this tight spot - being the rope of a tug-of-war.
Kylie’s arms were tied to the back of a chair and she was placed in the middle of her little combat practice room where she sat unconscious. She woke up to the bright light that shone right into her retinas. “You know that even if you blind me - which you know that is impossible - you won’t be able to get any answer out of me.”
“We might not be able to get any answers out of you but you, just like any other human, have a weak spot. So we brought a little friend of yours.” Alec continued to throw the big duffle bag which had the unconscious body of Sapphire’s boyfriend who Kylie happened to have a crush on. “Now speak or bye-bye, Ralph.” He held a dagger to his throat.
“Kill him. Like I could care less about his worthless life.” Kylie shot him with the immediate response.
“Oh please! Like I would kill his hopeless human.” Alec continued to release his body, letting his body fall to the concrete floor. “Elyssa, it’s your turn!” His voice echoed through the hall-ways towards the dark alley where Elyssa was.
“Kylie, you little brat! I knew that you could never do anything right. You are a disgrace to this family and our name.”, came a familiar voice that made Kylie feel nostalgic. Out of the shadows came the one person who always only saw that she was nothing but a worthless little brat. The man with a head that is completely grey but he didn’t look a day in his 40s. - Her long deceased father - continued to speak. “Instead of fighting people who deserved it, here you are tied up to a chair. You are weak and that’s the reason why you can never be anything like your cousin, Sapphire. You know that deep down, you wish you had her life but you knew by right that you can never be like her, loved by other people.”
Kylie felt her eyes well up as her abusive step-father, whom she had remembered murdering in cold blood, continued pushing her self-esteem down. She was reluctant to talk so Elyssa sent in another person whom she knew that Kylie would never dare to face ever again.
“You will never be enough for my son.” came another voice from the shadows. She heard the clicking of high-heels and she gasped. “You are nothing but an abomination. You have never been a good role model so why do you think my son would ever want a b***h like you. Just because you have a model like body?” The lady walked out of the shadows, her hair was looked-like gold.
Last summer, Kylie had fallen in love with a boy whom she could never stop thinking about. Little had she known that love was what made her weak. As soon as they were a thing and he had brought her to meet his mother, and his mother after taking one look at her and told her straight up that she was a slut and that she didn’t deserve him. Though her boyfriend did defend her, she immediately revealed to him what she truly was by bringing her one weakness - an angelic blade - almost stabbing Kylie. However, Kylie let her ego take the better of her, before his mother could even touch her, she twisted her arm backwards and aimed it straight for her heart. Her boyfriend looked at her in shock and ran out before she could even say a word. She vowed from that day that she would never let a boy become her priority but she remembered seeing his mother’s eyes wide as she laid on the ground unconscious and obviously dead.
“Angelica...”, Kylie’s voice trailed on.
“In the flesh. - Now, I’m not going to blame you for stabbing me in the chest with that blade. But I think you didn’t know who you were messing with but let’s let bygones be bygones. I’m sure that you now know exactly why I couldn’t let you expose my Noah to the demon world. He can’t know about his brother being the ruler of Hell.” Angelica explained.
“What are you doing here?” Kylie continued from where she stopped.
“I’m handling my end of the bargain, sweetheart. You remember my last words? Of course you don’t remember. You were too busy disposing off the truth of your murder. So I’m here to tell you again what I said to you before you buried my corpse.” Angelica continued to lean in to whisper into her ears the very words that she had missed. “Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way. Do as you’ve been told or your life would be just as I had told you.”
Kylie let out tears of the fear that her step-father had inflicted on her as well as the thought of a continuous curse that Angelica had placed on her. “I’ll tell you where the book is. Just let me go.” She exclaimed.
Elyssa came forth to untie her. “Tell us and Angelica just might take away that curse from your life.”
Kylie panted, “I heard that the Jones had it sold to this antique collector - what’s his name again - I think his name was Woods - Austin Woods. He lives not far from here. About a 20 minutes drive away from here.”
“Do you have a precise address?”, said Alec.
“No, but I know he lives somewhere on the West Coast. I can take you to him. I will do anything as long as you keep me away from her.” Kylie said with her eyes directed at Angelica.
