#2 Broken Doll (Part 1)

3095 Words
Elyssa and the guys staked out in an abandoned hut near the Jones’ mansion, waiting for Skylar and Carson to come. “They should be here by now.” Elyssa looked down at her phone to check the time which showed that it was already 10.30 a.m. “What’s taking them so long?” She turned to Alec. “Give them time, you should know how it takes her forever to get ready with the inconvenience of her mermaid tail coming at her every time her leg touches water.”, said Alec. “And plus you know how a girl always wants to look their best all the time. Even in situations like these because you are also included in it.” “Shh, I hear someone. Hide.” Elyssa ducked her head into the bushes but still looked at the direction that the footsteps were coming from. She listened really carefully because she knew that the person who was coming towards their direction was a threat and he wasn’t alone. Inside the bushes she could see who it was.  “What a drag it was today. Why do we always need to follow Sapphire around anyways? I thought she’s your girl.” Elyssa heard a familiar voice complaining. That was when she spotted a pair of brown eyes. Elyssa gasped in her mind, “Tyler?” “Because my ex - who apparently doesn’t exist in my life no more - brought this upon herself and it is what she wants.” It was Cody. “Why did you drag me all the way out here anyways?” “I just wanted to show you this place that is amazing and I think you should really be taking Sapphire to. And don’t worry, I’ll drive. It’s somewhere around the West Coast anyways.” They got in the car and drove off. “That was easier than I thought.” Elyssa stood up and pulled Alec up with her. “Right on queue too, they’re here. - Do you think that Lucifer had already briefed them about the plan?” “Knowing Lucifer, I think that he hoped that they would figure it out themselves. But I hope we can get everything that they had stolen out from their mansion before something bad actually happens.” “What makes you say that something bad is definitely going to happen?” Elyssa was looking elsewhere just in case any unexpected visitors passed the place that they were staking out at. “Alright, we’re clear to go.” She was really paying attention to make sure that they didn’t blow each other’s cover. “You sure are determined to get your hands on that book don’t you?” “The book didn’t belong to their family in the first place anyways, so why should it be in their possession. I knew the moment I saw that family that they were pure evil. Even their children had already inherited their enemies.” No matter what Alec said, Elyssa was still hell-bent on trying to save Gracie from Angelica. She was determined to get Gracie back in one piece. To ensure that there are no complications, she had to take the safest route by the book. But with Angelica pulling the strings, she knew that there would be no easy way out because Angelica would never back down without a fight. Elyssa continued to look around to see if there were anymore people walking in and out of the mansion so they would not need to explain why they were there. Though Elyssa was a demon, she hated having to lie each and every time, she had to protect someone. Once the course was completely clear, she took Alec with her. “We can start by searching the basement since it would be the most obvious place that they would keep this sort of thing.” “Don’t you think it is better to search the ground floor - I mean like they wouldn’t put something so precious down in the basement, would they?” “That’s exactly it, they don’t know about the pretentiousness of that book and the threats it holds when fallen into the wrong hands.” “Speak for yourself, I spy with my little eye a black book with ancient writing on it.” “Alright, come on. The sooner we find the other stuff, the sooner we can get out of this sinner’s house.” She continued to crept her way towards the book and take a look at it. The moment she opened the book, she realized that it had been switched out for the original. “It’s blank. How can this be?” “Maybe if you hadn't been so focused on finding it, you would have actually gotten it. But oh well, it seems like I’ll always be a step ahead of you.”, came the familiar voice from the shadows.  Elyssa let out a gasp and looked over to see the familiar face whom she had not seen in ages, stepping out of the shadows, still the same old savage she had always been. She glared at her, “And I see you brought a friend.”  Tyler had driven Cody to the location which he had described as so stupendous that he had to go and try the food there. It was just a simple diner with booths and everything. Upon striding in, Cody was already quite impressed with the quality of the leather seats of the booths. They continued to march up to the counter where a middle aged man who looked like he knew Tyler said, “What can I get you gentlemen this evening?” Though Cody was aware that Skylar and Carson were hanging out at Sapphire’s place that evening, he paid no attention to the reason why.  “We’ll have two burgers. Dining in.”, Tyler said in an excited tone. “Shouldn’t we take away some for the rest?”, Cody asked, only thinking of Sapphire.  “I thought Sapphire’s on a diet and Skylar would have most probably already eaten with Carson or is planning to eat with Carson after their hang out?” Tyler took the tray with all the nice looking food on it.  Upon taking the tray, the waiter asked, “Will there be anything else?” He had this malevolent glint in his eyes making him appear to already be part of Tyler’s gang. “Oh yeah.” Tyler realized that he could just so easily compel him to answer any of his questions. “Did you see this girl and this guy pass by here anytime today?” He continued to show him a picture of Skylar and Carson.  “Yeah, they came in here at lunch time to take away some burgers.”, he commented.  “How many burgers?”, Cody started to raise his voice at the poor man.  “Four. Why do you have to raise your voice?” “You ask too many questions. - Tyler, do your thing.” Cody instructed. “What are you getting on to this time Cody? It isn’t everyday that you raise your voice at a civilian.” “That’s the thing. He isn’t just a civilian. Can’t you see surpassing the glamour or has being away from Alison made you weak? He is one of us. Probably sent by Lucifer just to toil with the way we see the surroundings. - Wait, that means that we’re too late. - Come on, we got to go now.” Cody got into the driver’s seat and started the engine before Tyler even got in. Tyler rushed to the passenger’s seat and the moment he was seated in the driver’s seat, Cody stepped on the gas and headed back to Sapphire’s place. “Mind explaining to me why are you rushing back to your girlfriend’s place?” Tyler was clueless of whatever Cody was thinking.  “That demon is not just any demon, he is Elyssa’s brother. The top at manipulations. He manipulated you to come to his diner which didn’t even exist a week ago. There weren’t any signs of construction which means that it must have been brought up from the flames of Hell. That’s the only explanation.” “Wait, Elyssa has a brother?” “Wow. How lost are you? Even after dating her for what - 2 years? - You are still clueless about her family, aren’t you? Elyssa’s mother only had one son but he ran away to the human world before Elyssa was born, still practicing demon magic and because of his persistence and the fact that  he showed potential, Lucifer must have gotten in contact with him to plot out a new plan.” Cody got more worried and started overtaking the rest of the drivers on the road to cut his way to a shortcut. “Bro, chill, you are driving over the speed limit. It’s not like if you aren’t there, Sapphire will be in mortal danger. You know that though she may be alone with Skylar most of the time, it’s not like our sister will be much of a threat to her, especially with all those bodyguards there.” “It’s not Skylar that I’m worried about, it is Carson. You’ve seen what he can do, he would ruin everything. He is nothing much trouble especially once he’s unleashed his dark side.” They were almost there and Cody could already feel the adrenaline flowing through his veins when he saw that Carson’s car was already parked outside the mansion. He looked around to see if the two of them had gotten back up from anyone else but to his dismay, there weren’t any more cars. It was oddly strange that Skylar would have no third party and was already acting a little strange in school, like she wanted to start a new chapter with Sapphire no longer the enemy. Skylar had already planned everything out with Sapphire. And while the brothers are out having their lunch at the diner as already planned out with Lucifer, they could get in just so easily now that they weren’t there. While Kyle kept them busy, Skylar and Carson had a free pass to enter the Jones’ mansion. They headed to the karaoke room to have a karaoke battle. Before entering the room, Skylar heard the familiar sound of the engine roaring. That’s our cue. She directed the thoughts to Carson.  Well if we’re here for a show then where’s the popcorn. He joked about it to Skylar. Alright I’ll stop but we better hope that he is in a good mood or we’re dead meat once he tells Sapphire about whatever we’re doing.  That moment Cody burst into the room and once he saw Sapphire in one piece he calmed down and went up to Carson taking him to another room to chat. “What are you planning here? The moment I saw how you and Skylar are so nice toward Sapphire, I knew something was up but I just couldn’t put a finger on the reason why.” “Calm down, Cody. We aren’t plotting against whatever you have between you and Sapphire nor do I even care about your love life. It is your life to live.” Carson was about to leave the room when Cody pulled him back.  “You aren’t leaving this room without an explanation.” “What is there to explain?”, Carson protested. “All you ever cared about was yourself and you left everything for me to clean up. And is there ever a time that you even stop to think if what you are doing is beneficial for the people around you? You always think of yourself and look where that’s taken you - Nowhere! You hurt people around you thinking that it is the only way to save the world but there is always another way that your tiny brain can never think of.”   “How dare you speak to me this way?” Cody was about to blast him with his powers but for once his life, he was powerless against Carson. “What have you done to me? Why am I powerless against you?” “Because Cody you just are. Now just suck it up and live with it. - You have a lot to think about before you can ever get your precious powers back.” Carson was getting annoyed with the way Cody had been behaving for the past few months. He continued to stomp his way out of the room before Cody could even grab him and pull him back to the room. Cody stood there stunned by Carson’s sudden confidence as he had never seen this side of him before. It was as though he was looking at a newer and more matured version of Carson.  Carson got back to Skylar who appeared to be getting along with Sapphire. It wasn’t up for debate that the two of them were somehow like two peas in a pod. However, the kindness Skylar was showing was just a face because they had a mission to accomplish. Cody was also surprised when he came in to see his girlfriend and his sister getting along for the first time in forever. It was like the void between the two of them had finally bridged up.  Convinced, Cody didn’t chase the two of them out of the house, just like he had a few months ago. That was when they heard the sound of a loud bang coming from the basement of the mansion. Cody stood up and rushed to the basement.  “Stay away from him.”, Elyssa shouted at the girl. “He’s mine!” It was as though there was a new version of herself standing before an audience. She was a lot more protective of people she cared about.  “Ooh, a lot more feisty now aren’t you? I like the new you, Astrid. So what made you change?”, she continued to cup Elyssa’s face to face Alec. “Your sweet lover boy here? -  I knew that one day when you really find your true love, it would be impossible for you to show your true self. - Correct me if I’m wrong.” “Shut it, Kylie.” Elyssa exclaimed, using her powers on Kylie but missed and hit the wall causing a loud bang on the wall that eventually caused the wall to almost collapse.  But Kylie was a step ahead of her and rushed to Alec’s side and to annoy Elyssa some more, she started ruffling his hair. “Now, now. We don’t want anything to happen to your obvious one and only.”  As soon as he was annoyed with her, he took her hand and flipped her forwards, causing her to fall on her back. “Paws off, tiger.” That was when she realized who he was. “Now that we’ve gotten that dealt with, I would appreciate it if you tell us where the actual book is kept or I swear that breaking your arm isn’t the only thing I’ll do.” “Please. If you thought that getting that book is so easy you should have gotten it from the antique store.” “You can’t be serious.”, Elyssa protested.  “Does it look like I’m joking?” Kylie smiled at her. “If I’m not wrong, I think the b***h, I call Auntie, has already sold it about a week ago - replacing it with replicas of the original.” “Why?” Alec had the fury in his eyes as he exclaimed right in her face.  “Why don’t you ask her parents? They were the one that saw that precious book of yours as nothing but just an antique with a bunch of symbols that their worthless minds can’t understand.” Kylie was still so cool. That was when Alec twisted her arm all the way backwards. “You don’t know when to quit, do you, pretty face. The truth is that you forget that I’m one just like your kind and this sort of thing is what I’m used to feeling and it doesn’t even bother me either way.” She continued to let out an evil laugh which made Alec just want to strangle her to death but sadly they couldn’t.  “Alec, that’s enough. We won’t get anything out of her even if she is dead. She’s manipulating your mind to want to kill her but it is impossible to kill someone of demon blood though she was born in the human world and had never been to Hell but she can still be a pain in the head.” Elyssa tried to convince him.  Alec let go of Kylie’s neck reluctantly. “This isn’t the last time you’ll see us.”  Elyssa and Alec went on to the other part of the basement to continue looking for the flower that Skylar and Carson were looking for. To their dismay, they had tough luck looking for the diamond in the rough. They were back to square one when they started hearing footsteps rushing towards the basement. Alec quickly pushed himself and Elyssa into the closet. And continued to tell her to keep quiet.
