Chapter 2

Joseph’s POV There is something about Mika that reminds me a lot of my mother, which I doubt is something any seventeen year old girl would want to hear.  Mika’s dark long hair and violet eyes would be the first similarities I could point out between my mother and her, but there is something else, something in her aura that gives me the sense that she is more. She is more than just a younger looking version of my mother.  Mika is powerful, the excess energy of whatever power that is growing within her is seeping out of her and back into the planet.  I am more than willing to bet that a power of good follows her, but keeps its distance as well. Something about Mika is not normal, from what I noticed from class today she stands out yet she blends in as well. She is a mystery and now watching her with Killian. I have to say that there is no denying that the two love each other as father and daughter should. Their relationship is strong and for Killian to give up everything for her proves that there is more to this girl than what meets the eye.  “You better pack a bag, once I inform Jayden that we will be bringing in a wolf he is going to want her to transfer schools as well.” I told them and Killian muttered something under his breath.  “Who is Jayden?” Mika asked and her expression only showed curiosity.  “Jayden is my brother and Alpha of the pack we are going to.”  I answered her, not daring to blink. I just felt like I had to keep an eye on her, as if she is going to do or say something that will tell me more about her.  Mika smirked and then walked up to me, leaving her father’s side; she seemed more predator than school girl. Predator, as in she is willing to do whatever it takes to defend herself and her father against me if I should attack.  “Alpha? I might not know what is going on right now, but I trust my father so I will pack a bag and go with you. Just know that it sounds like it is going to be a long drive to wherever it is that we are going and I expect answers.” Mika said and for a second she seemed to be in pain but she quickly recovered from it.  “I promise we will tell you everything,” Killian said and put a hand on her shoulder.  When Mika and Killian left to go pack a bag I called Jayden, I thought that when I called Jayden at the end of the day that the conversion would be about my job and the fact that Jayden seemed to knock Sarah up again. In the last seventeen years Jayden has had a lot to deal with; ten years ago Jayden’s four year old son got attacked by vampires and was killed. Now, he has four daughters and his adopted son, Jace, once Jayden steps down Jace will become Alpha. He has the Alpha gene and will, with Jayden mentoring him, be a great Alpha.  I just hope by then the vampire problem will not be so bad. Just thinking about all of this makes me wish I could go back, but back to what? It has always felt like there is something missing from our lives and none of knew what that was.  Seventeen years ago, vampires were just as much as a fantasy or myth to us as we are to humans. Now that we know they are real we have been looking for their weaknesses and trying to find a way to either be at peace with them or eradicate them.  Jayden finally picked up his phone after letting it ring for such a long time. “Hey Joseph, how did the first day of school go?” Jayden asked and I heard the smile in his voice.   “I only made it through one class.” I replied  Jayden suddenly became serious, I heard him ask Sarah to take Emma out. “What happened?” “Nothing bad, a girl almost had her first shift at school today.” “What? How is that possible the shift is only supposed to come with the rise of the full moon for first time shifters.” Jayden said and I heard him fidgeting around in the background.  “I know, I managed to stop it, there is something else you should know.” “What is it? This sounds serious.” I took a deep breath before I told him. “She is Killian’s daughter.” “Killian? As in Alpha Killian Davis?” Jayden asked and the shock of the whole situation seemed to get to him. “How is that possible?”  “From what I gathered she is not his biological daughter, he found her all alone seventeen years ago and took her in and raised her as his own. “I answered, while talking on the phone to Jayden I pulled out my suitcase and started throwing my things in it. “Wow, but that isn’t all there is to this story. Is it?” “Aside from the fact that she reminds me a bit of mom, I think she is quite powerful but whatever gifts she may possess is all suppressed inside her and growing. If I was a betting man, I would say that by letting her power grow for so long, some of it has been seeping out of her and energizing others around her and going back into the planet.”  “When should I be expecting you?” Jayden asked because he already knew that I would take Mika to the pack.  “We should be there before nightfall, there is one more thing. She doesn’t know about the werewolf community.” “What do you mean she doesn’t know?”  “Killian thought she was human, that is why he left everything.” I heard Jayden sigh on the other end of the line and knew that he just didn’t know what to say to that.  “When Killian gets here I am going to punch him and then welcome him back. See you soon.” Jayden said. Then he hung-up.  When I woke up this morning I did not expect my day to go like this.   I am not even sure where my day is going at the moment.                                               Killian’s POV                               As Mika packed her bag, I got my things ready. If there is one thing we know, it is how to pack fast. We have done it a thousand times and mostly because of my slight case of paranoia.  Mika is my daughter always has been and always will be. The reason we moved so much is because I was worried about her safety, there always seemed to be danger lurking nearby. I could always feel it. The moment things began to feel unsafe we packed up and moved.  Once my bag was packed I went to check on Mika. When I reached her room she was just about zipping her bag closed.  She smiled at me and I smiled back. It was like a feeling of reassurance even though she didn’t know what was truly happening to her, yet.   That is the thing about Mika, she never let her feelings show. She always smiled. If there is one thing that I could count on with Mika it is that no matter how she feels she will always smile.  She didn’t smile because she believed that if she faked it long enough it would be true. She smiled because she wanted to reassure others. She made others smile around her.  “Are you all done? We need to leave in five minutes.” I told Mika and she rolled her eyes at me.  “I’m done, just going to pack in some snacks and drinks for the drive. We should also dispose of all the perishables.” Mika said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. And it probably is. But somehow I manage to forget the obvious things.  I shook my head and walked out of her room into the kitchen. I packed everything we had in the kitchen that we will not be taking with us on our trip and put it in a box for Sandy.  Our neighbor Sandy is a waitress and sometimes Mika would help her out by babysitting for her whenever she worked night shifts. Sometimes Mika would bring them over here to eat or take food with her. Sandy is not a bad mother, she does her best but sometimes it is not enough. The food in the box is enough for two weeks and I put in some money to help pay for a babysitter. “That for Sandy?” Mika asked when she entered the kitchen.  “Yes, can you take it over to her place now while I pack all of this into the car?” I asked her and handed the box over to Mika.  She just nodded her head and walked out.  It took us another twenty minutes to get done with everything and drive on over to Joseph’s place.  I have not seen Joseph in years. The last time I saw him he was just a boy and now he is a man and an uncle. I wonder when he is going to find his mate and how he is going to handle it. From what I know about the Kent men it is that they have some hurdles to jump through when it comes to their mates. “We should get going, you can follow me.” Joseph said as he got into his car.  Mika was sitting in the front seat and shook her head and smirked when she heard me curse.  “Dad, are you going to tell me what is going on or am I going to have to move to Joseph’s car and ask him about everything.”  I ran a hand through my hair and knew it was time to tell her everything; I was just not sure where to start. “I want to tell you everything, I just –”  Mika cut me off, “you can start by telling me about you and werewolves and then we can move on from there.”  Well, this is going to be a long drive.  Jayden’s POV I let everyone know that Joseph was coming home with Killian and Killian’s daughter. To say people were shocked was an understatement. From what Joseph told me about the girl, she does not know about who we are, or who she is.  Just as I was screaming out orders and preparing everything for the girl’s first shift my phone started ringing. “Yes?” I answered, not bothering to see who called now.  “Hey dad, what’s going on?” Jace asked, he knew me well enough to know that I was not exactly having a good day. “An old friend is returning today with his daughter, the only problem is that she does not know that she is a werewolf.” I replied and I could hear Jace sigh on the other end of the line.  “Well then, I have good news. I am going to come home next week. I found a new self-defense trainer for the school. He is great and quite strong.” Jace said and I felt myself relax just a bit.  “What is his name? Have I heard of him before?” I asked curious about the man Jace found for us.  With the increase in vampire attacks the students need to be able to defend themselves and since they are attending a mixed school, humans and werewolves, they need to be careful and I felt a need to give the humans a fighting chance against the vampires even if they do not know about the danger that has been lurking around for years now.  “His name is Kyle Rowan, he is a good teacher and a great fighter. In his fights he is definitely holding back quite a bit. Even I went a round with him and had my ass handed to me.” Jace said and then laughed. “He sounds good. I will meet him at the school then. I hope you told him we have accommodations for him near the school and about everything else.” I said and felt a yawn coming on.  “Don’t worry, I got this. And when you meet the girl take a picture and text it to me. I want to see if she is cute.” Jace said and then laughed as I swore under my breath.  Jace has been a ladies’ man ever since he turned thirteen. The young girls and older women all seem to fall victim under his charms, I am sure that if he tries anything with Killian’s daughter Killian won’t hesitate to castrate him.  A few hours later and Joseph was the first to pull up in his truck, followed by Killian who drove a 4x4 and the girl was asleep in the front seat. From what I could tell she is a pretty girl.  Joseph got out of the car and greeted me with a hug. “Where’s your lovely mate?” Joseph asked and smirked when I growled. He liked to tease me when it came to Sarah. “Right here Joseph.” Sarah said from behind me and Joseph walked over to her to give her a big hug and spin her around as he always does.  I walked up to Killian when he got out of the car and shook his hand, our eyes never left each other. In my mind I was inviting him into the pack and he was accepting it. When it was done I punched him in the face. He stumbled back a bit, but didn’t retaliate.  “What the hell is your problem?!” The girl said as she slammed the car door and walked over to me. When did she wake up? She jabbed her finger into my chest and glared at me. Her eyes and hair reminded me a lot of my mother’s, but her bone structure reminded me a lot of my son Jace.  “Mika stop that, I am fine.” Killian said, trying to get Mika to stop poking me in the chest.  “No, not until he apologizes.” Mika said, determined to stand up for her father. “Why did you do that?” she asked me.  “I am Alpha here, and you should stop doing that before you get punished or piss off my pack and they decide to handle you.” I said, finding this rather slightly amusing.  “Not until you apologize.” She said and jabbed me again in the chest this time hard enough that it hurt a bit.  I grabbed a hold of her wrist to stop her and when I looked into her eyes I knew I shouldn’t have done that.  She smirked and then easily twisted her wrist out of my grasp and then crouched and did a spin kick of some sought that successfully knocked me on my ass. “Next time you should just say sorry.” Mika said as she stood above me.  Some of the pack members growled at her for disobeying me and making a mockery of me, the others were quiet. Then Joseph started laughing and so did Sarah and a few of the other pack members.  Just great the tiny girl made a laughing stock of me in front of my pack and mate.  “So you can fight?” I asked, as I easily jumped up.  “Nope, you just pissed me off.” She replied and said it like I shouldn’t be asking her stupid questions.  “Jayden, what is going on here?” My father asked as he rounded the corner of the pack house with my mother.  We had built them a house in a clearing not too far from the pack house, so that they could have peace and quiet. There are quite a few other houses that the pack owns around here now that we have grown quite a bit.  “Killian is back and his daughter knocked Jayden on his ass.” Joseph answered and I saw my father snicker and when he looked at Mika he seemed to have sobered up a bit. He walked up to Mika and placed a hand on her face.  “You look so much like Skye did when I first met her; the only thing is that your bone structure is a bit sharper. “He said and then pulled her in for a hug. “Welcome to the pack.”  Before I could say anything else my parents lead Killian and Mika into the pack house.  “You know you deserved that.” Sarah said as she wrapped her arms around my waist.  “So did he.” Sarah said nothing, she just hugged me tighter.  Mika knocked me on my ass with such ease that it only speaks about how strong she is. I wonder if this new trainer that Jace is getting will push her to her limits or if she is going to make him sweat.
