Now they were faced with a difficult question: is this place still safe? If it was, they didn’t need to worry about the zombies; but if it was not, they needed to find somewhere else to live, and quickly!
Judging by the sound, the zombies were at least as close as the 30th floor. Eric’s brain was racing.
The fact that the zombies were coming upstairs meant they had broken through the security door. From what Eric had read, these guys would try to get in wherever they could and bite any living creature they saw.
Even if he blocked the fire doors, it was only a matter of time before the zombies broke through. After all, if the strong security door could be broken, it was clearly unsafe here.
Thinking of this, Eric grabbed Andy’s hand and shouted, “Andy, backpack! Arm yourself! We’ll take the elevator to the underground parking lot and find a car to escape in!”
The two men moved as fast as Olympic athletes, adrenaline pumping through their bodies.
When they entered the elevator, Eric turned to Andy. “If there are zombies down there, we’ll get rid of them first. Then let’s find a sturdy, SUV-type vehicle and get out of here!"
At that moment, Andy was completely panic-stricken. “Eric! Where are we going next?”
“Don’t ask me! We’ll play it by ear!”
Ding! The elevator door opened. The two men, weapons in hand, found no incoming zombies, so they walked out slowly.
Whoosh! A black shadow rushed at them from just outside the elevator! Eric instinctively swung the truncheon in his hand at the shape as it passed. With a dull thud, something black fell to the ground.
“What are you waiting for?! Where’s your crossbow? Shoot!” Eric shouted, ignoring the pain in his right hand.
Only then did Eric look at the dark mass a few meters away. It turned out it was not a zombie, but a dog!
But this was obviously no ordinary dog. It was about 1.2 meters tall, with bright, black fur and an intimidatingly large mouth. The white teeth within reflected the light, looking very sharp. Its mouth was constantly dripping with saliva. This was a dog that had been infected by the U-Virus. It was very aggressive and would attack any creature that it saw.
Moreover, it was clear that this zombie dog was not stupid. Having been hit by Eric, now it dared not act rashly. It was like a standoff, both Eric and the dog not wanting to make any sudden moves.
“Whoosh!” Andy fired an arrow at the dog but unfortunately it missed. Worse still, the move upset the balance in the delicate situation and the zombie dog immediately jumped with its powerful hind legs and lunged at Andy!
Natural instinct made Andy roll to the left just in time, narrowly escaping the attack!
Eric reacted quickly to the failed attack as he lifted his truncheon and swung it hard at the dog’s head.
But the dog had quick reactions, seemingly able to feel it coming and dodged Eric’s powerful shot!
Andy picked himself up from the ground, took out a bow and put it on the string.
As he did so, the dog stared at him. He looked oddly calm. It seemed that this zombie dog was skilled at counterattacking; first dodge an assault, then launch one of his own!
Thinking of this, Eric shouted to Andy, “Andy! Keep aiming at it, but don’t shoot! Wait till I get out my crossbow! This one won’t attack us until we take the initiative. It’s looking for a weak moment!”
“Got it!” Andy knew this was no time to be careless. He pointed his crossbow at the zombie dog, held his breath and put his finger to the trigger.
Come on then beast! I’ll kill you with a single shot! Eric was preparing himself. He had already taken out his crossbow and loaded it with an arrow.
“Andy! After I shoot, whether I hit it or not, you need to be ready to shoot again! Am I clear? I’ll count down from three, I’ll shoot, and then you too!” Eric’s stern voice and clear instruction were undoubtedly helpful in getting Andy ready for something out of his comfort zone.
“Three... Two... One!” “Whoosh! Whoosh!”
Eric’s shooting was obviously better than that of his companion. His arrow hit the zombie dog right between the eyes! The dog didn’t even make a sound before it fell.
Immediately, the same, unusual phenomenon happened again. Just like when Eric killed the zombie before, the blood in the zombie dog’s eyes slowly faded and Eric felt his strength and spirit being restored. It was the same for Andy too, the only difference being that the red line to Eric’s eyes was thicker than that directed at Andy.
