Eric kept hold of his trusty wrench. After all, it was the only lethal weapon he had to fight the zombies. This thing could save his life; he had to grasp it firmly!
He approached the door of Room 1303 in a tentative manner, his mind filled with various scenarios of what might happen after he opened the door.
Casting his fears aside, Eric scanned the card. After a loud beep, he kicked open the door with his foot, then quickly took a big step back, afraid that a zombie would come at him from inside.
Thankfully, there was no sound. He looked around carefully. In the 15-square-meter room, there were no people, zombies or any living things, just piles of goods stacked up inside. He breathed a sigh of relief, and went in to inspect the contents of the room.
To Eric’s delight, the treasure he discovered was exactly what he needed! In addition to five boxes of instant noodles, ten boxes of mineral water, and two boxes of cereal bars, Eric also found various other useful things! There were 300 Band-Aids, 1 bandage, 5 bottles of medical alcohol, 10 boxes of sterilized cotton swabs, 2 crossbows and arrows, plus 4 military truncheons!
Wow! Wasn’t this a financial investment company? Why were all the materials in the warehouse for survival? Was the manager of this company also a survival enthusiast?
Whatever. The reason was not important. The main thing was that these things would be extremely useful in the present environment.
But how should he take all this back to his office? Eric recalled that he had put several large outdoor sports bags in his office locker. He had planned to spend the weekend exploring the wild with his colleagues, but now they would be very useful to carry the stuff.
Eric took the elevator up and down to the warehouse several times and finally carried all the supplies to the 35th floor. He had considered relocating to the 13th floor to save the effort of moving, but given that a zombie had appeared there and it was so close to the security door, the higher floor appeared the safer option.
It was almost 6:30 pm, and it was getting dark. Eric had experienced things far beyond his imagination that day. It could easily be the most unforgettable day of his life to date. Most important of all, he was not dead! And he had so far survived the zombie apocalypse!
The room next to Eric’s office was a small utility room, which he and a few colleagues had shared together. Inside there was a small oven and a simple, portable stove.
He quickly cooked two packets of instant noodles and ate them. They had to be the most delicious instant noodles he had ever eaten, since he was a child at least.
After the meal, he remembered to keep himself safe. He placed all the big desks against the front door as a barricade, or else he would feel uneasy and be unable to sleep.
He went to the balcony and looked down at the ground below. There didn’t seem to be so many zombies now compared to the daytime, but there were still plenty roaming the streets. “That could be a useful piece of information,” Eric thought.
Now it was time to try and get some sleep on the office sofa. He kept his new crossbow and truncheon by his side. The wrench had now been relegated to his bag. After all, a crossbow and a truncheon were far more useful for defending yourself or killing zombies. Moreover, he was happened to be a highly proficient bowman.
Lying on the sofa, Eric had a lot on his mind. This was now a world that no one had ever experienced. It was full of zombies and he had not seen another human being so far.
“So, what to do next?” Eric wondered. At present, he could live on his supplies for at least a month. But what would he do when they ran out?
Most people had a natural fear of the unknown. For example, they had a fear of death because they did not know what it was like to die. And from the moment Eric woke up that day, everything had been unknown to him. That made it a very scary world.
