Chapter 3-1: Kill A Zombie

696 Words
As the glass door opened, the zombie made a move! Luckily a zombie’s IQ is very low, and it did not notice the layer of glass separating the two of them. The glass door then opened from the middle. When Eric saw the door open, he quickly moved toward the door, and the zombie on the other side followed. It lifted its hands and reached out for Eric, who was so close, he could see its drooling mouth and scarlet eyes through the glass. As expected, the zombie stretched out two hands and lunged at him savagely! He dodged it with a standard sidestep, and the zombie missed its target and staggered straight out of the glass door! Eric reacted fast and hooked his right leg around the zombie’s ankle, sending it crashing to the floor! Now! Taking advantage of the opportunity, Eric raised the wrench, which until now had only been used for repairing computers, and smashed it down on the back of the zombie’s head. There was a loud pop, followed quickly by the eruption of a foul smell into the air. It looked like Eric had bashed him pretty well, but he couldn’t take any risks, so he raised the wrench and smashed it down again! Bang! This time the sound was much louder; he must have penetrated the skull. A jet of dark liquid spewed from the open wound where he had struck. Without hesitation, he repeated the blow exactly four times. Time seemed to pass slowly and quickly at the same time. Before he knew it, Eric staggered backward, his strength totally spent. But one thing he could be sure of was that the zombie couldn’t do anything anymore. It was definitely dead! Eric could no longer hold the wrench. Clang! The wrench fell, hitting the marble floor with a loud bang. He felt his body collapse, as if he had no control over it. After all, it was his first kill in all his 20-odd years of life! Not to mention the first thing he had killed was a zombie! It would be a lie to say he was not afraid. Though he had tried to prepare himself, when he really did it, he soon broke out in a cold sweat. His nervousness lasted only half a minute, however, and then he quickly calmed down. Normally, a person would not be able to relax so quickly after killing someone. But now everything was different. It was the end of the world! It was a world where you couldn’t survive as a human without killing zombies! Gasping for breath, Eric got up and kicked the zombie on the ground, waiting for any sign of life. After confirming the death, he swiftly retrieved the ID card from around its neck. But as he looked at the corpse, something weird happened! As Eric observed the zombie’s face, he saw the red colour in its eyes slowly disappear, and to his disbelief, the red colour became a thin, almost invisible thread rushing toward his eyes! What the f**k! He braced himself, but felt no discomfort. Instead, he felt his fatigue was gone, as if his spirit and strength had been restored in an instant! This... did killing a zombie replenish energy? It was undeniable that Eric now felt much stronger and energized. He was stunned by the strange phenomenon; it was incredible! Then again, he had woken up in a mad, zombie-filled world, could he really be that surprised? Although he didn’t understand what was going on, he had killed the zombie and now had the ID card. The back of the card stated that the company’s logistics warehouse was located in Room 1303, on this floor. Given that each floor in the building was laid out in the same way, Eric knew this meant Room 1303 should be next to the bathrooms. But since he had already run into zombies in the same offices, there was no guarantee what would be waiting for him in the logistics warehouse. He knew he had to be careful.
