There is silence in the room, for a moment no lips are moving but just the eyes do the talking. “I said tell me what’s going on Sam so start speaking, why am I not seeing your lips move right now? I don’t have all day,” he huffs.
“Mother is coming back,” Sam blurts.
Bryce freezes in his tracks, lines appear on his forehead as he tries to make sense of what he just heard.
“What do you mean she is coming back...that’s only happening after she serves her remaining seven years,” he reminds.
Sam anxiously taps his foot on the ground and begins blinking repeatedly. “Talk to me son...what’s your mother up to now?” He rubs the back of his neck.
“I don’t know how but she says she is getting out of prison soon,”
“What...that’s impossible, she has only served three years,” Bryce is shocked by the news.
“Well it looks like it is not impossible after all because she seemed very certain and so she asked me to choose who my mother is going to be once she is out,”
“When did she tell you this and why are you only telling me about this now?”
“I didn’t think it mattered,”
“You didn’t think it mattered? Are you kidding me right now?”
“YOU want to know the truth? I didn’t say anything because I was afraid you would tell your wife about it and she would find a way to stop it from happening and then my mother would hate me forever for betraying her again,” he rumbles.
“First of all the woman you are referring to as ‘my wife’ is your mother, she may not be your biological mother but she is still your mother,” Bryce barks.
Sam blinks his eyes and pulls his lips, “so are you going to tell her about what I told you?” He side eyes him.
