The night passed with tension lingering within the palace which was under the fog and the mist while they were playing like small children. The moon was bright and confident, however, the appearances might be deceiving. Even if the security had been increased around the boundaries and inside the palace, I was still anxious and palpating under the edge of a knife. I couldn’t sleep with peace as it kept me agitated all night long. The thoughts of Lucian invading the territory and causing chaos in this peaceful kingdom was too much to handle at this time.
Ever since he was prisoned under the jail of spells, the kingdom started to bloom but now he is free and roaming around the town, I can't breathe in relief. Lucian and this tactic will be handled but Carmen, that witch is too powerful and i am sure that she is not resting this hour. She will be planning for a comeback with a blast. Not sure if she is aware of Abria being here, but that news spreaded into the neighbouring kingdoms like a fire. So, it wou;d be pointless if I think she might not be aware of this.
“I knew you weren’t sleeping…” Daphne was standing on the balcony and I was pissed by this action.
I was glaring down at her and she knew the reason.
“I know you hate this but I had to do it. I am anxious…” she commented.
“Me too… I can't sleep when that bastard is still free and setting his eyes here. I don’t know how to explain but this whole setup is giving me some sort of off vibes, like something terrible is about to happen. Since the day Carmen freed herself from that jail, everything is going down except the fact Abria is here.. Elijah disappeared, Lucian is free now, and carmen is alive, what else could go wrong?” i was breathless at that moment..
“Don’t take this wrong but maybe Abria being here isn’t a good thing. I inspected this very carefully and i came up to this conclusion.. That Abria is pretending to be naive… she has been trained by Carmen.. Not exactly where but the way she uses her spell to manipulate the fire, i am damn sure that it was taught by Carmen.” Daphne informed me with a confidence in her voice.
I knew she would never lie but I still wanted that to be a lie.
“Are you sure?” I asked while rubbing my temples gently.
“There is no other way… she was like a family to us, at a certain time period but I have been trained with her and I know how she used to create spells and potions. And don’t forget that she was the one who helped Elijah escape with Abria. It could be possible that this time even if it's her doing… I could be wrong but I believe she is the one who helped Lucian free from that jail.. There are lot of hypothesis about this but we need to dig up to the roots..`` She sat beside me and discussed it.
I was really in deep thought because the points she raised can be true… Now it is really frustrating and exhausting what to believe and what not to..
“I assume what you just stated could be true but if we look closer to the things happening, everything is bound to one person here…” i raised my brows at her.
“Abria?” said Daphne
“Exactly… now this has created suspicion on her… but we cannot confront her because we still don’t know to what extent she knows about us and this kingdom.. What poison is filled in her mind? Carmen is not an ordinary person to mess with… she surrendered easily instead of giving us a fight… it could be possible she had a back plan which might include Abria in it.. Because at this point it isn't clear yet how did Abria manage to reach verglasia?” I rectified the doubts which were in my mind for a very long time.
Daphne was tapping her fingers on the table and i am sure she is thinking about it too…
“We need to be careful.. Not just careful but alert… we are still in doubts and Carmen has already started to infiltrate this kingdom.. Before anyone else could come under her influence, especially Abria, we need to find her… but before that, we need to take care of Lucian..” i suggested it to her and she nodded her head.
“Leave Lucian to me.. My team is behind him and soon, he will be behind the bars… but for Abria, you have to make sure she doesn’t get attached to loneliness.. These spells work best if a person is not mentally or emotionally stable…” She stood and glanced at the moon before returning inside the room and agreeing with the suggestions.
“Alright.. We will stick to this strategy in the meantime but I would like to confront Lord Vikram about this matter… Maybe tomorrow, we cannot afford to waste time…”
Daphne left after our discussion over the recent incidents… Now everything is making me anxious. I can’t be sure to put anyone on suspicion but I have to do it for the sake of this kingdom. The next morning, i rushed to see Lord Vikram before the scheduled meetings. Once i got stuck in them, i won’t be getting free any sooner and i can’t ask Lord Vikram to leave his tower to see me. His advanced age and illness has taken a toll on him. I can’t make him bother for much.
The guards opened the door of the tower and I proceeded to see Lord Vikram. He was sitting on his couch and reading his old scripted books, just like ever. His gaze fell on me and he welcomed me with a smile.
“Ah.. Eira.. it’s been a while.. Seems like you have forgotten me?” he definitely knows how to embarrass someone.
“It’s not the thing… i was caught up with a lot of things lately and in short, i had no time to check on you.. I am sorry for that..” I apologize for my neglectance.
“I am not mad at you.. I know a queen’s duty is not a child’s play. And now since the princess has arrived, your problems have increased a lot…” he commented.
“Yeah… it is.. And I am here to talk about her only…” I sighed and ripped down on the couch next to him.
He was quiet and judgemental today.. As if, he was trying to read the air. The way he was staring at the ceiling was kind of creepy but I was fine with it.. I have seen more scary things than this…
“Have you noticed something lately?” he asked after a long pause.
“What do you mean?” I snapped.
“This island… floating on an ocean and made of ice.. Still, it can generate a living for our species… no satellites can ever find it but… someone else did find it…” he said with a monotonous voice..
“Can you explain? I don’t have time to solve riddles…” I was tired of his attitude.
He raised his fingers at the window and I peeked out only to glance at a crow sitting on a fence.. I scrunched my brows at him because, in all these years, I have never seen a crow in this place before.. What does that mean?
“A crow? What? Why?” I was really confused…
“Because crows… are the angel of death….” He said, simply.
“I don’t get it… and they are creepy… what does it have to mean?” I asked him. Expecting a decent answer instead of a puzzle.
“They bring a bad omen… it could be anything… an accident, a terrible news, negative vibes or a death… or maybe… destruction…” he stated while glaring at the crow.
“Death? Destruction? Seriously?” I narrowed my gaze at him…
“Yes… have you seen any crow here before?” he asked and I shook my head.
“I think it answers itself..”
“But what does it have to do with things happening around? How did they get here?” I asked him..
“Someone brought them here…”
“Who? Who brought them here?” I demanded an answer.
He was hesitant to reveal but then he said, “Your daughter… Abria..”
