Decorations

Chapter 8 - Present - Giselle Christmas decorations were not uncommon to see in Supernatural Beings' homes as many of them enjoyed the festivities of the Human holidays, which they often mixed into the ones they celebrated around the same time. However, anyone could tell that it was a little more memorable in the Pack's house of Mirror Night as their Alpha couple was turned wolves, and... The same could also be said about the d'Alberto family residence as Sabrina's Human Mate always celebrated the date with his children every single year, no matter how busy he was. ... Their Christmas tree was huge, and this seemed to have become even more prominent after the arrival of little Eddy, to the surprise of Giselle that had never decorated one before as a child since her mother just put things outside to match their neighbors. Everything inside was left as a complete dedication to the winter season with several white and blue ribbons, dried flowers, candles, and anything else that the older she-wolf thought would match the event that all the born Werewolves gathered to celebrate this time of the year... So once again, the largest tree Charles could find to buy was covered with white decorations, blending both festivities in the same way their families had joined as one over the years after the man and his children had become members of the Pack as well. "I didn't think we were going to decorate the house this year." Walking downstairs... That was the first thing Ronny brought up when he saw the tree in their living room that wasn't there the night before while several boxes were all around on the floor, and Sabrina was trying to choose the ones that would match better with the new ornaments. "Did you really think that? I just didn't have time to stop by Sam's to pick up the tree, but I had already asked him to save a big one for me, and I even paid him a little extra cash for that." Looking shocked at his son for a second, Charles quickly answered him before proceeding to decorate the fireplace with the things his wife had given him earlier. "Well, I don't know... We're kind of late this year, so I figured why to waste time when it's so last minute." There were only a few days left until Christmas, so it wasn't strange that it was the teenager's thoughts when he walked back into the living room with a bowl of cereal in his hand before he helped his stepmother untangle some ribbons that had somehow got tied to each other in the box. ... That was one of those mysterious things that always happen in their storage containers, even if they had carefully put everything away the previous year... "A CHRISTMAS TREE!" But prior, a new conversation could arise between father and son, little Edward's cheerful voice screamed loud in the room. ... The boy was more than happy while running down the stairs after catching a glimpse of the tree where Santa left him presents every year without missing anything from his list. Making the fear that he might not get anything that Christmas due to the lack of one goes away immediately from his young mind... "Are these all for me?!" And noticing some presents already under the tree, Eddy asked his grandfather who messed up his hair before answering him. "Maybe. There are some presents there for your uncles, aunt, and your father too, but we'll just find out which one is for whom on Christmas morning, okay buddy?" His words were kind, and that was enough for the pup to agree with him without further question as he nodded his head quickly. "So remember, you can't open them, or no gifts from Santa this year, okay?" "Okay!" Despite his anticipation to know what his grandparents had bought him, Edward agreed one more time before his grandmother asked who would want to eat pancakes that morning as she got up, followed by the little one who was the first to say I on her way to their kitchen. * * * Stepping out of the shower, I could hear the subtle noise of the music playing on my phone over the bed in the room I borrowed to get ready after training that morning as I wouldn't have time to go home before coming back here to help with the solstice preparations. ... We already decorated the Pack's house weeks ago. Yet, some things always need to be adjusted at the last minute, as the food and drinks required for a group of more than fifty wolves that we called our Pack... Wearing the same pair of jeans from any other day and a simple white turtleneck t-shirt, nothing about my outfit was much different from usual... And even the brown sweater I put on later was an old piece I had worn for years before I noticed a familiar smell approaching the room, knocking on the door a few seconds later after that. "Yes?" I could already wonder why she was looking for me while I switched off the music that was still playing on my phone. "Elle, Alpha Magnolia asked me to tell you to go help her in the kitchen if Alpha Dylan hasn't already told you to do something else." "You can come in, Jiya. The door is unlocked." As I finished tying my hair into a ponytail, I said back to one of the few close friends I had in our lands. ... And if I had to be honest, Jiya would probably just lose to Noah, who I had considered my best friend as far as I could remember... "I thought you were still dressing up... And I can't believe the Alphas always lend you the keys to empty rooms." That was the first thing my friend commented, noticing the key in the door as she closed the door while playing with her beautiful black hair that went down to her waist and looked so pretty against the brown skin inherited from her mother, an Indian she-wolf. "Is that by any chance because you are a future Alpha? Because Goddess, in that case, I need to train more to have this kind of luxury on days like today that makes me just want to hide away from everyone in the Pack's house." Making me smile back at her, I could easily picture her doing so as Jiya always preferred to avoid everyone else in what could be considered a big event for our little Pack that was nothing compared to the big ones out there. ... Even if she was usually someone quite friendly when the number of people around her was no more than ten at a time... "Well, in that case, you can switch places with me if you want." Jiya was a Beta wolf, so it wasn't too hard to assume that she could really become an Alpha after training a little more, although we didn't have a clear idea whether that was all that mattered to someone becoming one or not. ... Just like I didn't understand why she wasn't already one instead of me... "No... I'm happy as a Beta. Being an Alpha would just mean that I'd need to deal with ALL the members of the Pack even more on days like today." Following me out of the room, Jiya ended my temporary happiness that maybe it would somehow make our positions reversed, easing my life and insecurities about the title I held right now. "... Here. Just be sure to give it back to me later before you leave, since I need to give it back to the Alphas later." Before we joined the others who were already here, I told her, handing the room key as it wasn't usually left unlocked since no one was using it at the moment. "Thank you, Elle! You're the best!" Putting a big smile on her face, Jiya hugged me right away, making me laugh as well before she released me with a stoic expression on her face, and I turned around for my eyes met with a pair of dark blue ones that always made my heart race in their presence...
