Like A Rose Field

Chapter 44 - Present - ??? Although those were not the feelings she wanted to have then, sorrow filled Giselle's eyes as she remained quiet in her room. The sounds of Edward and Ronnie's laughter were her only comfort while her mind was lost in the world of possibilities and whys she created in her head. ... She didn't want to be sad about it, yet she couldn't find any reason to be happy about the existence of the new pup who would join her life in the following months... The future Alpha had dreamed about the day she would have her own family with her Mate for years... However, everything was much more different than her wild dreams expected. The man destined to become her other half by the Gods barely looked at her, and their bond was a link never meant to be found. … Their mating was just a mistake made due to the effects the Moon had on them, naturally being tucked away like dust under a carpet by both of them, who didn't even talk about that night with each other… So how could she welcome her child into that family? It was just too hard to imagine amid all the other issues Giselle already had to deal with, like the upcoming Alpha competition to be Mirror Night's leader. Besides, the whole thing about the hunters and how they made several wolves wary of every single new Human they saw in the small town. * * * I was aware it was only a matter of time before the little wolf called me… She would have no one to run to this time as she would be too afraid about how they would react to her words. The lack of confidence she felt didn’t affect only her view of herself but also the trust she had with her loved ones and how they pictured her in their minds. … So, she wouldn’t have much another choice than call me when the time arrived… The colorful field of roses might have a pleasant scent, but its path was still full of thorns that one had to cross carefully to get to the other side. ... They might get cuts, bruises, bleeds and even shed a few tears, but it would all be worth it in the end... Sadly, I couldn't say the same about myself or how long I would have to wait to be able to feel in such a way again as the bloodshot eyes full of pain still haunted my dreams. And the deep voice that once whispered only words of love to me was replaced by his groans and cries in my mind, no matter how much I tried to forget it. So, in the end, maybe it was better if the bond attached to both of them was broken when it hadn't grown too deep yet, even though faint pieces of it would always remain in their lives... Like the one that the little Alpha already expected at the moment. I knew about it. ... I knew about the kind of ending it would all have. But in spite of this, my selfish thoughts decided to help her, even if it meant going against Fate... “Mommy! Mommy! What are you doing?” The delight of my little one's voice, which was one of the only things that made me glad to be alive, reminded me how each of my actions was for him and the person he would share his destiny with someday. "I was only thinking, baby... I'm just thinking about all the new friends you and the Alphas' youngest will have soon... Thinking about all the joy you'll have then..." Although he was still too young to understand what I meant, I shared the news with him before allowing my attention to go back to our reflection. Looking into my cold blue eyes that earned me the nickname Winter Witch in the mirror, I wondered how he could look so much like me and still have the same powerful gaze as his father at such a young age... As if his brown eyes could see beyond what I could into the future, seeing all the things they would all have to deal with like a rose field.
