She-wolf

Chapter 54 - Present - Giselle "Weird? What do you mean by that, Paola?" As she went back to exchange glances with Mirror Night's Beta, the girl seemed unsure about what she was going to say to the other she-wolf. "... There was another wolf there. Or rather, they were after another Werewolf when Owen and I got there, and we ran into them a few feet away from the edge of the Pack." Unlike the previous weeks, Dylan had asked everyone to do the patrol in pairs in the last few days to assure no one would overlook a detail or two that could help them. … So, Paola's partner was the other future Alpha that afternoon, who didn't even wait for her most of the time while following their patrol route, no matter how many times she called him… "I have no idea who they were, and they also didn't smell like Pack. But still, Owen tried to help them, even if we didn't know the situation of what was going on, and I think that's what made Alpha Dylan so angry with him." The teenager finished saying, playing with her fingertips nervously to hide her anxieties due to all the unexpected things that happened all at once, or at least, she tried to hide it. She had never seen their Alpha angry as far as she could remember. The moment when she heard his growl while protecting them yet fresh in her memory, understanding for the first time why everyone called him a true Alpha when he always seemed too gentle to be one. "Owen mentioned the Werewolf was a she-wolf actually, but it was all he managed to tell me before Dylan came back after scaring the hunters away." Completing the answer given by Paola, the Beta said to Giselle, placing a hand on the young she-wolf's head as a form of comfort since she was still pretty young for it all in his point of view, even if she was a future Alpha as well. "But we never got to talk to her about it as she also ran away while we were still busy with the hunters." * * * "Oh, Goddess... Just when I thought we were done dealing with this hunter thing, they had to show up again?" Acting as any other member of the Pack would upon hearing about it, my grandmother shared her discomfort with me. "Yeah, the Alpha couple and the other dominant wolves weren't too pleased about it either when I left to come here." Helping her put some new clothes on the mannequin while glancing at Eddy a couple of times to see if he was still sitting in the same spot watching videos on my phone, I commented. "I'm not surprised they're like this. I don't have a whole Pack to lead, and I am, so imagine them." I knew her concerns went far beyond that, but I just went along with it without mentioning anything else. ... I didn't want to make her more worried than she should be with the news that soon spread through the Pack before I even got to the boutique... "But at least now we know that Mirror Night is not exactly what they are after, even if no one knows yet who this unknown she-wolf is." Such a fact wasn't a secret, and probably one of the wolves who were with Alpha Dylan or Owen was who told the others about it. “I hope it will not make us their target, but I also can’t stop wondering why they must be after her… I mean, having hunters following you this far must not be something very pleasant to happen.” Speaking from her own experience, my grandmother pointed out, waking my curiosity as it did make sense. Hunters usually attacked Packs or Shoals, but there were few stories I had heard about them hunting someone through different places and cities who wasn't a Vampire. "But enough of this disturbing news! Something else happened today, and I must say that it was what truly surprised me." After we finished what we were doing, she spoke out of nowhere, going to the counter to get something among her things. "The ex-boyfriend of a dear employee of mine who I didn't even know existed came to see her today. Although they didn't get to meet, sadly." Handing me a note, at first, I was confused by her words until she filled them up. "Conan will be staying in town for the next few days, so he asked me to give you his number in case you want to call and meet up with him." Placing the piece of paper between our hands, I could see in my grandmother's eyes how happy she was to know that I had, or used to have, someone like this in my life. After all, she was always constantly worried that I might be Mateless due to my lack of interest when it came to romantic things. "It seems like he truly wanted to see you again, so why don't you give him a chance? He sounded like a nice guy to me. And even if he is Human, that doesn't mean you can't be together, as exceptions exist for a good reason, no matter if he's not your Mate." Undoubtedly, thinking much ahead, I knew my grandmother just wanted me to be happy, forgetting the burden my mother always put on me when younger due to her own mistakes. Yet, at the same time, I couldn't stop thinking about how both of them were not wrong while the idea of meeting Conan again sounded more and more tempting, even if I didn't mean it in a romantic kind of way.
