The Mother

Chapter 46 - Present - Aaron The fact that he was waking up alone again no longer surprised Aaron as it did a few weeks ago... Edward had always asked to sleep with him since the Human man had gotten better from his strange illness. Yet it was with Giselle that the pup woke up every single morning, going far beyond the days that it happened only once in a while in a week. He was completely attached to her since the she-wolf came back from her unexpected trip, and anyone in their family and the Pack could see this as the little one followed her everywhere, putting his father in second place now. ... Something unexpected since he used to love to stay with Aaron when the man was at home, making this one of the few moments Eddy used to allow Giselle to rest from her babysitting tasks... But right now, it was hard to see one without the other when they were both at home, going against everything his father had tried to avoid in all these years. Although Aaron always found it difficult to deny that he loved all the help the Werewolf woman gave him with his son, that wasn't related to her. ... It might not be a big deal to others, but it somehow upset the Human man's heart every time he thought about it... "Hey... Is Eddy with you?" Reluctantly, he asked, although he already knew the answer before he even knocked on the door of his step-sister's room. "... Elle?" However, unlike other mornings, Giselle didn't answer him as usual, opening the door with the puppy in her arms or telling him that he could come in. In fact, there was only pure silence coming from the other side as Aaron waited for any kind of reply from her until he finally got tired of waiting and going against the voice in the back of his mind that told him it was a bad idea, he entered the room without being invited, only to stumble upon a scene he never thought he would see there... … Both the she-wolf and his son were in their wolf shapes, sleeping peacefully close to each other like the pictures that anyone could find online of that tender moment shared by mother and pup… It was probably the first time the Human saw the two in that form at home. Nevertheless, it was Giselle that attracted his eyes, tempting him to run his hand over her beautiful fur, even though it wasn't a good idea. “But it surprises me that even a weak being like you is one of them as well.” Recalling the stupid thing he had said to her the first time he had seen her like this, Aaron wished that he could hit his younger self in the head for being so stupid and unable to give her a simple compliment, after all... Back then, the thing he truly wanted to tell her was about how beautiful her wolf was. Or rather, how beautiful she is, as time didn't seem to have affected her in any bad way, keeping her fur as shiny and silky as Aaron remembered in his memories. The mixed colors were just like Giselle's dirty blond hair, highlighting the darker, almost brown tone of her tail and left ear. “Don’t!” More than clean, her voice was in his mind about what she meant with her words before his dark blue eyes met the she-wolf's brown ones when she growled at him in a not very friendly gesture. * * * "... I was just planning to wake Eddy." There was something abnormal in Elle's gaze that I couldn't define but that I could yet tell to be there when I lied through my teeth. "..." And without an answer at first, she seemed to think about something before she turned to look at my son, licking his head in such a natural gesture when they were in that form that she left me no room to interrupt them. "You should have let him sleep with me for a little longer. It's not like he needs to wake up early today." As Edward opened his eyes while still sleepy, she mentioned without diverting her attention from him, making me wonder what she might be saying to him then... “Da-daddy…” However, I couldn't think about it for long when Ed called out to me, getting up in bed before his furry paws gave way to his arms, hugging me in his slumber. His weight was heavier than usual as he soon went back to sleep with his nose tucked between my neck in a habit that I always thought was cute but which I learned to be part of his Werewolf side over the years. "I don't know exactly what he saw in his dreams, but he had a nightmare last night, and I just managed to put him to sleep again almost in the morning. So, I would let him sleep for a little longer if you don't want to spend the rest of the day with a grumpy pup going against everything you say." I was pretty sure that Eddy couldn't hear anything she said to me in my mind, but still, Elle spoke it in a whisper as if she was afraid she might accidentally wake him up while her eyes remained glued to the pup sleeping in my arms. ... And I would have to be an i***t not to notice how precious he was to her as I recalled each and every moment she stayed with Ed, taking care of him in a way that not even I would be able to with all the patience someone could have in the world since the first day I brought him here... Giselle was an important part of his life, and honestly... I wanted to thank her for being the mother Edward always needed, but the words seemed to get stuck in my mouth, maybe because I wasn't very fond of that idea, and as always... I wasn't able to say any of them to her.
