Chapter 25 - Past - Aaron
"You seem to really like to drink..." That might seem like a simple comment said by a child, yet the same couldn't be said about the thoughts Ronnie had while saying it…
All his memories about how his parents' marriage had ended and the messy days that followed until his father came back home and his mother was the one to leave, well... They were strongly related to the glasses that the Human woman always had in her hands during the night.
… Ignoring the baby crying upstairs along with the loud sound of the TV until Daniel did something, and some peace aloud him to sleep...
"Surprisingly, not as much as you might be thinking. I promise you."
Holding his shoulders as she answered, his new stepmother had her face close to his while speaking in a gentle tone similar to the one his mother used to have in the past.
"But I can't deny that I like seeing all the bottles beautifully organized and displayed there like this, ready to be opened for any special occasion that might happen like you all moving here today. Or sometime in the future when we celebrate your twenty-one birthday and your brothers before you."
Doubts of his young heart couldn't believe in her words then... But as she had told him, the number of bottles only decreased when something important happened to their family.

"Twenty-one."
Making no sense with his words, that was all Ronnie told me when I asked him about what he meant by friends.
"My twenty-one birthday is one of the special events that Sabrina talked me about that we would celebrate with those drinks in the future when we first moved here. And since that day, a thing I always do when I wake up or get back home is see how many bottles are still there... So, I would be a fool if I didn't notice that the one she gifted to Giselle is missing."
Honestly, I knew perfectly well what my brother was talking about earlier, yet I pretended to be unaware of it without knowing that it had been how he found out about my lie.
"You drank that on the night of the Solstice, didn't you? And you didn't even know how to hide it, right?" He asked, almost interrogating me, joining the dots faster than I could expect. "But then, why didn't you put the bottle back at the same place? She will freak out when she finds out about it, or don't you remember how she told us many times to don't touch it?"
And as if he wasn't my baby brother anymore, he suddenly spoke to me like someone older trying to teach me how to fool our parents as I had never done it before when I was a teenager.
"Ronny, the point at the moment is not about what I did with the bottle." I didn't even know where it was. "So I would appreciate it if you could keep quiet about it."
"Sure!" As he quickly spoke back to me, it made me stare at him suspiciously as it was strange how Ronnie easily agreed with me without requests or demands that were part of his never-ending wish list. "... But I need to remind you that there is a price for it, or Sabrina will be the first to know about that."
"Know about what?" Almost giving me a heart attack, my father interrupted me when I was about to answer my brother about how it was all too good to be true.
"Nothing! We were just talking about some silly things, nothing you two need to worry about." Finding out the hard way that my athletic skills were still better than I could assume, I stopped Ronnie from saying anything else. "And speaking of which, where is Sabrina? Didn't she say she had something for me to drink that might help me with this?"
"Her mother called her, so they're talking on the phone upstairs. And here it is, she asked me to give you that, besides remind you to drink plenty of water along with it as well. But don't ask me why as I don't know the reason too."
Handing me the small bottle that seemed to have a little more than a quarter of the strange liquid in it, my father mentioned as he had never drunk it before when he told me to release my brother soon; or I would end up killing him like this before he headed back upstairs... Wishing me good luck as Ronnie quickly followed behind him.
And when I was alone, I could finally understand why my dad said that as the terrible taste soon spread through my mouth...
... It was also when Edward woke up, looking for Giselle as usual while wondering if she was already at home, and I...
I could only think this day couldn't get any worse as the taste continued to disturb me no matter how much water or any other drink I drank.
