Mommy's Smell

Chapter 41 - Present - Giselle Uncertainties defined Giselle's mind as she stared at her bedroom wall without moving an inch away from her bed. It was early in the morning, and usually, by this time, she would be in the Pack's house already, getting ready to join the patrol protecting the borders of their land. However, before she even woke up, the first message she had received this day changed her whole schedule as the Alpha couple decided that she didn't need to go along with the others today... ...That she could stay home and take the day off to rest, instead of forcing herself again, worsening her health... ... In other words, they knew about what had happened to her, and Elle was pretty sure Paola hadn't been the one to tell them about it. "Why did Grandma do that? I already told her I was okay..." Whispering to herself in bed, Giselle could easily picture how before she even left the house, her grandmother must have called the Alphas to inform them and complain about what had happened to her granddaughter. ...Her dramatic behavior was something Sabrina had definitely inherited from her, being something which was a little too much for Elle to deal with at times, even if she knew the older she-wolf only wanted to help her... "... Can I..." But the worst part of having nothing to do was that... Her mind wandered among all the possibilities and probabilities of what could be the truth. Happiness dominating half of her feelings, if not for the insecurity and uneasiness that the other half gave her, knowing what kind of disaster all this would be if such thoughts were not so wrong after all... Everything she had done would be in vain, besides the explanations Giselle would need to give, and she wouldn't even know where to begin as lies would no longer be enough since it would be impossible to hide who the father of her child was from a wolves Pack. ...The Winter Witch's spell was powerful enough to keep the secret of her mating from them, but she doubted it would be able to help her with that as well. * * * "Breathe... We need to breathe, Elle..." Speaking to myself, I stared at the white ceiling, trying not to think anymore about the inevitable fact that, at some point, I would have to seek an answer. ... Regardless of what kind of future it might unfold due to that... "If only I had had more control that night... If only I..." As my fingers touched my mouth, the memories of his kisses rushed back into my mind like a nightmare disguised as a beautiful dream. I didn't want to think about it; I didn't want to think about how the idea that it could be my only chance to have him overwhelmed my mind then as my lips moved against his in a sweet symphony that shouldn't have been played since the first note. And as much as I wanted to answer Jiya's message saying that I was already better, the tiredness in my body didn't seem to agree with me as I fell asleep once more after hitting the send button. ... Waking up only after what I felt was one of the best naps I ever took when Selie called me... "f**k! They didn't let me see him again, and the worst part is that I know why!" Not being very gentle with her word choices, Selena rarely said anything like this, yet I could understand her frustration by how he couldn't help herself this time. "Hi to you too... And is he still in a coma?" Fully awake now, I asked her, sitting in the bed without seeing what time it was. "The coma is not the major issue here. He is bad. Very bad as if he could die at any moment, Elle." The person, or better, Werewolf Selie was talking about, was her ex-boyfriend, Kristian. They had broken up years ago, but their relationship was still strong, confusing me at times as she never went into too much detail if it was just friendship or something else... But back to his s********e kind of attack had happened in his Pack, putting his life at risk, even if Selena wasn't able to explain to me exactly how, since as far as I knew, he was a Beta wolf. ... He should be as strong as Jiya, or perhaps even more powerful as he belonged to a big Pack compared to ours... However, none of this truly mattered as she helped me to forget my own problems with it. ... Talking with her for a few more hours, I never imagined how late it should be now until I heard the footsteps coming toward my room. And as the door opened, Edward quickly jumped onto my bed, asking if I was already better with a smile on his lips... The others should have told him to leave me alone to rest, and since he hadn't seen me early either, I could easily imagine that his current happiness was what made him rush here after hearing my voice talking to Selena. "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" His little arms soon found their way around my body as he hugged me warmly, putting a smile back on my face as I said goodbye to my friend, so I could give my attention only to him and return the same action. ...Feeling his comforting scent that belonged to my sweet pup before his innocent comment made me think that I couldn't avoid what was about to happen for much longer... “Mommy’s smell is so good… I love Mommy’s smell!”
