Old Friend?

Chapter 42 - Present - Giselle “... Eddy. Do you want to go out with mommy?” Showing a smile to the pup, Giselle asked, brushing his hair out of his face before he quickly agreed with her as she could already expect he would. So, once she told him to get his coat, he left for his room, and the she-wolf got up for the first time that day. Right away, she put on the first outfit she saw in her closet, fixing her hair up in a ponytail before brushing her teeth in the bathroom downstairs. "Are you going out? I thought Sabrina said you were sick." Surprised to see her there, Ronnie pointed out, stopping on the way to his room. And it wasn't strange that he was already home, like Edward, seeing how late it was... Although, he would usually hang out with his friends after school. "... What?! I already told you that your mother said you were sick, so Dad asked me to come home early to babysit Eddy and take care of him so he wouldn't disturb you since he couldn't stay with them today at the store!" Despite the fact that she hadn't said anything to him yet, the teenager easily understood her silence due to all the years they had lived together, responding to her right away even if it wasn't needed. "My mother was overreacting, and I'm taking Eddy to get a haircut. Amid everything that happened, I couldn't take him before the new year as I planned to." Elle shared with him about where she was supposed to go, leaving the bathroom to see why Edward was taking so long to get his jacket. "Can't you do that another day? Dad and Sabrina will kill me if they know I let you out alone, and the last thing I need is for them to cut my allowance again." Complaining, Ronnie followed her like a puppy, not planning to let Giselle go anywhere that wasn't inside that house. "Ronnie... I'm already better, and I will be quick. I'll just take you for a haircut, and before you know, we'll be back." Delicately calling her youngest stepbrother's name, the she-wolf confused the teenager, who didn't know why he could never disagree with her when she used that tone of voice to speak with him. "So, what do you say? Can you be quiet about it?" Giselle wanted to make sure they would be on the same page about this, or if not, she would have to think of more excuses not only for her family but also for her Alphas, who had told her to stay home and rest while the others worked so hard to protect their Pack. ... Therefore, she needed Ronnie's help at all costs as he was the only one there right now... "I will buy you the new game you wanted if you promise me to be quiet about it." But in the end, instead of asking him for such a favor, it was much easier to deal with the youngest of D'Alberto's boys in such a way that Giselle even wondered why she had wasted her time when she could have done it since the beginning... Especially seeing how easily Ronnie agreed after hearing her proposal. "Thank you, and please, make sure no one gets back home earlier." Their family loved to text each other when they were late or left early, so it wouldn't be a difficult task for the teenager to do. * * * "It seems like we will need to leave it for next week, pup." Unexpectedly coming across the closed barbershop, I mouthed to Edward, who just looked at me confused before returning his attention to the video he was watching on my phone. Nevertheless, even though I no longer had the excuse I had given Ronnie earlier, I decided to follow my plans and take advantage of the fact that we were in another town to buy what I needed without anyone familiar seeing me... ...And thankfully, Aaron always insisted that only this barbershop knew how to cut Eddy's hair right, so his brother would never suspect if I took an hour or two to go home... ... Time that seemed to be more than enough for me to be able to choose a pregnancy test when I didn't even know there were so many different brands and types. "If you're not sure yet, I would recommend this one. But if you want to know how many weeks you are before you go to the doctor, this one is better." Startling me due to my distraction, I let the box in my hands fall before I recognized that it was truly him. "Mommy..." And picking it up for me, Eddy called out while I was still unable to believe that I had met someone familiar there, and he of all people. "It has been a long time since we saw each other for the last time, right Elle?" His green eyes looked exactly the same as I remembered, although I had yet to ask him what he was doing there. "Ah! I moved here last fall, and until I get used to the area, I decided to work here since one of my uncles owns the place." His smile was gentle as before when he took the pregnancy test from Edward's hands, giving it back to me. ...His tan skin looked great against the white clothes, just like in the old days, even though he fits in a hospital much better than in a drugstore as Conan used to work as a nurse. And I met him for the first time when I accompanied a Human friend to do some bandages after she injured herself while working on a project... "By the way, I didn't know you had a son this big already," He got my attention back from my thoughts, placing a hand on Eddy's head. "Ah! Yes, it amazes me every day how fast he is growing. Edward says hi. Uncle Conan is an old friend of mommy's." "Old friend..." "I thought you said we could be friends after we broke up." Unsure whether or not he remembered what he had told me then, I mentioned, feeling my face flush. "Yes, I said that, and... He's a cute little guy, but he doesn't look much like you." Painfully, he stated, looking back at me after offering some lollipops to Eddy, who only accepted when I told him that he could take them. "... Sorry. Eddy is actually my stepbrother's son. He moved back a few years ago, and since I also help to take care of him, Eddy simply loves to call me that. But he's just my nephew." "I see... That explains why you were so confused earlier. This is your first one, right?" Remembering why I was here, I honestly didn't know what to say to him as I just nodded, feeling ashamed of myself out of nowhere, even if I didn't need to. "Okay! Let me help you pay for it. So you don't have to stay here for much longer." Taking the box out of my hand, he grabbed another from the shelf, stopping his action when he saw my eyes following him. "Most people I know usually like to buy at least two to be sure of the result." And after showing me his trademark smile, he turned around, reminding me how I used to think his back looked just like Aaron's in the past, even though their personalities were completely different...
