Crystal POV
A few minutes after my mother and Mrs. Marie left my room, I heard Joel telling Mr. James while walking past my bedroom door towards the front door.
“Don’t worry man! I think our girls will do right by us. They will make us the luckiest dads in the world.” Joel said and I smiled before I sat on my bed with Kendra.
Just as I sat down my phone buzzed with a text from Oscar.
“Hey Crystal, I know you said 4 but are you free to talk now, I’m home and bored.”
I picked up the phone and instead of texting my response I pressed send on the phone to call him. He picked up on the first ring. I guess he really is bored I sighed.
“Hey Oscar, what’s up?” I said inquisitively, he was quiet for a minute.
“Hey Crystal, I know you and I have been really distant lately and it’s my fought really, but I really wanted you to know that you mean a lot to me. I didn’t want things getting back to you to make it seem that I betrayed you, so I wanted to tell you myself,” he said softly with a hint of hesitation.
“Tell me what yourself?” I asked
He hesitated again then came out with it, saying “I kissed Diane at Ruby’s Diner last week. I don’t know what really happened, at first, we were telling jokes and laughing, then she was telling me she never forgot our first kiss in the 6th grade when we played truth or dare. She asked me if I wanted to see if anything changed and then she kissed me, but I didn’t stop her. I kissed her back and it felt nice. You and I, have never kissed or even really hung out, and I know that isn’t an excuse to do what I did. So, I wanted to be the one to tell you the truth, since we are dating somewhat. Honestly, I know I asked you to think about us but I’m kind of seeing Diane now. I hope you aren’t mad.” I held the phone to my ear in shock not saying anything for almost two minutes.
“Crystal, are you still there? Please say something.” I heard Oscar’s plea on the other end of the line. In that moment Caelan crossed my mind, I smiled and said,
“It’s okay Oscar, I don’t have time for a relationship right now anyway. Thanks for telling me and not allowing me to be blindsided. I hope things work out between you and Diane. Friends?”
I heard him stumble over something before saying,
“I wouldn’t have it any other way. Thanks for being understanding Crystal. You’re the Best! Have a great afternoon!”
I smiled and responded, “You too Oscar” and hung up the phone.
Kendra sat there looking at me as if I grew a third head,
“What was that about… Oscar and Diane?” I smiled at her ignoring her question before asking my own.
“Brian or Caelan? Which one intrigues you more?” She stared off in the distant and smiled a bright smile then looked at me with hearts in her eyes and said.
“Definitely Brian… Don’t get me wrong Caelan is handsome too but it’s something about the way Brian looks at me that set my body on fire with need for him.”
Now I was looking at her like she grew three heads and smiled, just as I was getting ready to say cool, she cut me off.
“Don’t tell me you get the same feeling from him?” she said and looked down at the floor. I quickly responded,
“No, No, No… I get that feeling from Caelan. It’s like he draws me to him somehow and everything stops around me. I don’t know but I think he may like me just as I think Brian may like you. Let’s hope anyway!” We both giggled and gave each other a hug.
Kendra has been my best friend since we were like eight years old. I would never hurt her over a boy. We have been through a lot together. I just hope we can get through this together also and I really hope it is as I said, Caelan likes me, and Brian likes her.
It's now 6:15 and Kendra left about twenty minutes ago to go get ready for dinner. I’m sitting on my bed staring off into the distance with thoughts of Caelan in my head. Joel lightly knocked on my door and I looked up at him,
“Hey Dad, What’s up?” I said, he smiled at me then said,
“Dinner is at 7:30. Mom is making pot roast and potatoes. Do you mind making a salad to go with it while I run to the market to get something for us to drink with it?” I smiled and nodded my head at him,
“Oh, and Dad, can you grab some Vanilla Ice Cream also? I asked Kendra to see if Mrs. Marie could bring some cookies for dessert.”
“Sure, thing Baby Girl! Go get washed up so you can help mom. I will be back shortly.” He said as he left my room and I followed him out to the bathroom to get cleaned up to help my mom in the kitchen.
After making the salad, I sat at the bar in the kitchen and chatted with my mom a little bit about the conference.
“Mom, do you think we will earn more money at the Conference?” my mother looked at me with a soften glare.
“Baby, I think you will get what you deserve but I need to speak with you about something important.” I stared at her and nodded.
“Crystal, you are different from others. You are not an ordinary girl. I’m not an ordinary woman. Your father accepted me as I was and was extremely proud that he and I were able to conceive you. Joel, knows that I’m not ordinary and although we have tried over the years, he and I haven’t been able to give you a sibling because of what I am. I had hoped that this would skip you and since I have no other children, I would never have to reveal it. I’ve been able to conceal it for a very long time but now I’m afraid your new friends will be able to sense it in me,” she told me looking me straight in my eyes. I looked at my mother confused and a little scared.
“Will they hurt you or try to take me away from you?” I asked with fear in my voice.
My mother sensed my fear and pulled me into a tight embrace.
“No baby, I don’t think they will hurt me or take you from me. I actually think if it is revealed they would want to protect both of us more. My fear is you will hate me and be afraid of me and of yourself when you find out what you really are?” She said with a small hesitation.
I looked at my mother like she just grew three heads and said with a confused look on my face.
“Wha… what I am? What am I?” She smiled at me and said.
“You are my daughter, and I am your mother.” I looked at her even more confused.
“So, what are we?” I said with hesitation in my voice.
“Crystal, do you remember when you were a little girl and I told you the story of the witch and the werewolf?” my mother asked me in a hopeful tone.
I searched my memory, and I remembered the story, but I thought it was just a fairytale. I shook my head and looked at her.
“The werewolf fell in love with the witch, and they had a baby, and the baby became a hybrid. But because the werewolf was pure, and the witch was already a hybrid the baby became a wolf.”
“Yes, darling that is correct. Your father was a hybrid wolf and human and I am a pure wolf, so on your eighteenth birthday you will receive your wolf.” I stared in shock at my mother.
“Wait, are you saying I’m a human-werewolf hybrid?” my mother looked at me as if she was ready for me to either run or pass out.
“Yes baby, you are a human-werewolf hybrid and if I sensed it correctly. Karl, Brian, and Caelan are all wolves also?” I looked at her in frantic before I started getting anxious. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. We all looked human to me.
“Will they try to hurt us mom? Why would you allow werewolves in our home?” I said in a terrified voice. She tilted her head and smile at me.
“No, I don’t think they will hurt us. I’m actually glad they came at this time, because in a couple months you will get your wolf and I would like you to have someone to talk with about the changes your body goes through. Kendra is pure human. She won’t understand what you are going through and we have to keep that part of us a secret or bad people could come for us and possibly hurt us.” She said to me with relief in her tone.
Now I was freaking out and hyperventilating just as Joel walked back in the door. He looked at mom then at me before speaking, “I guess you told her already” he said, and mom nodded.
I looked between the two of them then turned towards my room and ran to it slamming the door shut plopping on my bed and started crying my eyes out. How could she keep something like this from me? How could she lie to me all my life? I cried and cried until my eyes were swollen and puffy.
After what felt like thirty minutes of crying, I heard a light knock on my door.
“Go away” I yelled in between sobs.
“Crystal, it’s Amilah. May I please come in? I would really like to speak to you and thank you-.” She said as I got out of my bed and opened the door cutting her off.
“Thank me for what?” I said, between sniffles.
When I wiped my eyes and looked at all who were standing at my door, it was my mother, Mrs. Marie, Kendra, and Amilah.
Kendra was the first to speak.
“Crys, please hear us out. All of us.”
I turned around and went to sit back on my bed and they all came in and sat on my bed beside me. Kendra again spoke first.
“I know what you are, I have always known. When we started to get close your mother told my mother and begged her to let us be friends because you wouldn’t open up to anybody but me at first. When we met your father was already dead and you closed yourself off from the world. You would have nightmares and wake up screaming until the night of our first sleepover. I was awakened by your screams and sobs for your father, and I laid in the bed with you and held you close to me until you were sleep again.” I looked at Kendra trying to remember but I couldn’t.
Mrs. Marie spoke next.
“That next morning when your mother came to get you, I practically forced her to tell me why you had such horrible nightmares. Your mother didn’t want to tell but when I threatened to take Kendra away, she broke down in my kitchen crying and before long I knew what you guys are and what really happened to your Father.” I looked at Mrs. Marie than I looked at my mother who had tears in her eyes ready to fall.
“This isn’t easy for me Baby, but your father was not killed in a car accident. We were on our way to your Papa and Mimi house, you were seven years old, we were ambushed by a group of rogue wolves. The leader of the group of rogues thought I was beautiful, and he sense my alpha blood. He wanted me for himself, but your father put up a fight. Before I could secure you in the car and get back to your father the leader pulled out a knife laced with wolfbane and stabbed your father in his neck right at his artery vein. When your father’s body fell to the ground the leader picked up his almost lifeless body and in front of both of our eyes snapped his neck. I shifted into my wolf and when I looked back at you, you had seen everything. You were looking out of the car back window with tears running down your eyes screaming for your father. I shifted back to my human form, grabbed you out of the car and placed you on my back. Within seconds I shifted into my wolf and ran as fast as my paws could to get you to safety.” My mother said with tears flooding down her face.
I looked up to and saw we were all crying. Joel, James, Brian, Caelan, and Karl were all standing in the doorway listening to my mother with tears in their eyes also.
“Why do I not remember any of this?” I said in a low timid tone. Caelan responded with a soft and caring tone.
“Because your mother gave you a better story to digest by telling you that your father was in a car accident and she never showed you or told you about your wolf lineage. After so long you believed the lie and lived in it until today when I discovered you.” I looked at him and he just looked down. I could feel he wanted to tell me something, but he hesitated. Joel looked at Caelan with a confused expression, after a minute he finally said to him.
“What do you mean you discovered her?” Caelan simply replied looking back at Joel.
“I sensed her wolf lineage, but I could tell she was a hybrid not a pure wolf, but your wife is pure, and her blood line is from an Alpha lineage. I sensed that when I walked in Ms. Williamson office today. It almost knocked me off my feet. Your wife confirmed my suspicions when she tensed up upon me walking in the room. I assume she also sensed my alpha lineage.”
I looked at my mother and she nodded at me then looked at Caelan and spoke.
“Alpha Caelan, I don’t want any problems. I just want to keep my daughter safe. I’ve been able to hide this from the outside world all this time except for close friends and family. We don’t mean a threat to you or your pack. I also understand with this knowledge, if you choose to not train Crystal. We never meant to decei-.” Caelan put his hand up with a stop signal cutting my mother off.
“Mrs. May-Peters, none of that is necessary, can we speak in private please?” he asked as he stepped out of the room and my mother followed after him.
Amilah then took my hand in hers and looked at me with the sincerest look possible before speaking.
“Crystal, I really don’t know how to say what I’m going to say so please bear with me. Even though you knew nothing of your wolf genes or lineage your wolf has been present in some way, even though, just like me, you don’t have your wolf yet. You have been protective of me since we first met. Thank you for always being nice to me and for stopping Shelly and her friends from always picking on me and calling me names. I want to thank you also Kendra even for getting into the fight with Shelly in gym class and getting detention. I will tell Ms. Williamson what really happened so the detention can be removed from your permanent record. I am an Alpha’s daughter and you guys stood up for me. You both will forever be in my debt. Thank you!” she said and smile as she walked over to Karl and he wrapped his arms around her shoulders in a protective possessive way.
Just then my mother and Caelan walked back into the room. He locked eyes with me and smiled. My mother looked at me softly and said.
“We’ll all be in the dining room. When you two are done talking, you can join us for dinner.” She signaled for everyone to leave the room except Caelan and me.
Everyone walked out the door and into the dining room. I stood up to close my door but Caelan stopped me by saying, “Out of respect for your parents, please leave it open. This won’t take long.”
He sat down on the edge of my bed and patted beside himself for me to take a seat. As I took my seat he began to speak.
“Crystal, I know today has been very overwhelming, but I need to ask you a couple of questions. Please tell me the truth, can you do that for me?” I nodded my head.
“Words, please!” he said.
“Yes, I can do that. What do you want to ask me?” I said looking at him with wonder in my eyes, he took a deep breathe then asked.
“When you first saw me this morning, do you remember how you felt?” I looked at him strangely and shifted slightly on my bottom.
“Umm…I’m not really sure but it felt as if I was drawn to you. Like you were someone very important to me and that I needed you as much as I needed air to breathe.” He nodded his head and smiled with understanding.
“Anything else?” he said. I looked up at him and our eyes locked reminding me of what his look does to my body. I looked back down and spoke.
“Yes, when I look in your eyes or you look at me my body gets flushed and hot, and it makes me want you in a way I have never wanted a man or anything for that matter.” His cheeks turned a light pink color, he smiled and looked out the door with a distant look before he spoke again.
“Crystal, you are new to all of this but what you felt is also what I felt and the reason you feel that way is because the Moon Goddess blessed me with you as my given mate. That means you were made for me and I was made for you.”
My face flushed red this time and I looked at the floor. When Caelan noticed I was looking at the floor, he placed one finger under my chin and tilted my head to look at him before he said, “Crystal you don’t need to be embarrassed, I have waited for you for four years and I will wait four more and four more after that if that is what you need. I know this is a lot, but I need you to know that you are very important to me and just like I told your mother, you both have the protection of my pack because I was put here to love and protect you with everything in me. That is exactly what I’m going to do. Your mom asked me to honor your promise to her and I plan to do that with everything in me.”
I looked at him and saw his sincerity. Then I laughed to myself before saying the promise out loud, “Stay Focused until Graduation and No Boys until College.” We both laughed and I looked at him with a huge smile on my face.
“Yeah, so I’m going to help you stay focused until Graduation and I won’t be your man mate until you are enrolled in College, deal?” I looked him in his eyes and said, “Deal but only under one condition.” He looked at me with curiosity in his eyes.
“You will spend every day with me until the day you can claim me as yours. I don’t want no other female out there thinking she can have what is mine. I’m not saying all day every day. I just would like to see you every day.” I said and looked away quickly from him. I heard a low growl in his chest, and I looked back at him.
“Deal, but you don’t ever have to worry about another female baby, you’re it for me.” He smiled at me, staring me in my eyes as he stood up, and leaned down placing a gentle kiss on my forehead. He grabbed my hand and as soon as our hands touched, I felt a fire like feeling where our hands touched. He looked at our hands and smile while pulling me up and leading me into the dining room for dinner.
