Chapter Nine “What are you doing?” he said, coming into my room with that typically grim look on his face. I wondered that he ever looked handsome to me. The women that thought him breathtaking numbered thousands, but the cruelty under the visage had erased all those thoughts from my mind. “I could ask you that?” I replied. “You said you would stay out of my way.” “You’re packing to leave?” he asked. “No. I’m not packing to leave.
