Chapter Eight It was the first time in months, he’d been away. Friends had encouraged him to take off after Kate’s funeral. But he thought diving into his work was a better balm to soothe him. By himself, reflecting and remembering could be disastrous, and that was all a vacation would bring. This was a vacation different from the sort that his well meaning friends had in mind for him. And as far as he was concerned, they would never know about it. He felt a bit like a kid, stealing away from his parents’ house behind their back; it had been that long ago since he’d done anything this dubious and sneaky.
