Chapter Five

The Elders

Chief Rivers from the Moon tribe mind linked Running Bear.

' I feel your elders are in danger. We have made room for them. You must start moving them over today.'

Running Bear mind links back.'Understand, we will start moving them this morning '

"Morning Dove, we need to move the elders today. I will need your help getting them around. We have warriors from the moon village coming to help." RB tells her.

Wolfy comes down ready for school. She seems very restless and plays with her food.

"What is wrong ?"Dove asked her, taking the fork from her hand.

"I had a weird dream last night. The mother wolf from the den came to me crying. She told me the pups were in danger. I woke up, and I swear I could see her looking at me. But when I turned my light on, she wasn't there. "Wolfy tells them.

"Your connection with that wolf den is important in ways you don't understand yet. We got word that warriors from the mountain tribe tried to take some of the pups. Thanks to our warriors who have been watching the village at night, they didn't get any of the pups.As of this morning, she and her whole pack moved to the dens by the moon village. So see my daughter you won't be far from your wolf friends after all." RB kissed her on her head and went off to start the move.

"You warriors start loading each elders home goods into the trucks in front of their homes. Once you get them loaded and are heading out, I will let the chief know. At the village, the other warriors will show you to each of their new homes." RB gives them the orders.

Old Willy approached RB. "I don't want to leave. My eyes have shown me the trouble that is coming for the wolf pups even though they had moved. It showed me where we were to meet the bad warriors and stop them. If we don't stop this, the death smell will linger through our village and cause much pain to warriors."

"Willy, you take our warriors that are left and show them where they are to stand guard. That den must be protected. It is linked to my daughter, as you already know. Mind link me when you all have finished the war they started."Running Bear feels the heaviness of Willys heart. "Don't worry, my friend. The spirits will protect you. It's written in the stories of this year."

Buck, Daffy, and Fawn meet up with Wolfy. Sitting in class, they started to put together their story of the falls. Buck, even though he said he wouldn't help, drew a very detailed picture of the falls. "Thanks, Buck. I knew I could count on you. "Fawn winks at him, causing him to blush.

Daffy tells them that her grandparents were being moved today. Buck said his was also being moved. Fawn told them that her aunt and uncle were being moved. No one knew that the move was going to start so soon.

"My father said all the elders were being moved first so they could be protected. He worries about the warriors from over the mountain attacking them." Wolfy tells them."The chiefs decided that all the elders must move today to be safe."

At the village, the elders are being packed up, and the trucks are being loaded. Soon, all the elders will be on their way to their new homes. Two of our elders were over a hundred years old. They are the chiefs grandparents. Their insight still amazes us, and their stories bring life to the fire dancers. Finally, all the elders are loaded and on their way to the moon village.

Mind linking the chief RB let's him know they are on their way. The chief mind links him back and lets him know they are ready for them. The elders were amazed at how big moon village was. When each couple got taken to their new home, they couldn't believe how nice the homes were.

"Please thank the chief for his hospitality and these beautiful homes. Us elders appreciate the comfort they will provide along with the protection." The oldest elder tells the warriors.

Buck and Wolfy run into Old Willy on their way home. "Willy, why are you still here? I thought all the elders moved today."Buck asked him.

"They did, but I had to stay behind. Some of the warriors and I are going to stand guard at the wolf den. It seems the mountain tribe wants some of the newborn pups. So we are going to help protect it tonight."Willy informs them.

"My father told me about that this morning. Please protect them. That pack means a lot to me."Wolfy asked him with sadness in her voice.

"Don't you worry, little one. I will keep them safe."Willy pats her head.

That night, the elders felt safe in their new homes and even went to the big hall to eat. The moon tribe welcomed them and made everyone feel at home. Chief Rivers was proud of his clan. He had a great sense of fulfillment.

Willy and the warriors get into position and watch the den. They waited for the mountain warriors to show up. Soon, they heard the wrestling of the leaves. Changing into their wolf form, they stalked the warriors. The other warriors changed into their wolf forms. The battle was intense, and a few got hurt. Soon, the mountain warriors gave up because they knew they were defeated. Willy mind linked their head warrior.'Don't return to this den again. Next time you won't have any warriors live.' The warriors left taking their wounded home.Warriors from Moon Village came and took the wounded to the hospital. Most of them started to heal fast, but one was hurt badly and would need to stay overnight. Willy and the rest of the warriors stayed at the den.

Wolfy was doing her homework when she felt a breeze go by her. Putting her pen down, she walked to her window. The voice told her to come to the old den. Listening, she walked out of the house and to the den.

"Where is Wolfy?I went up to say goodnight, and she isn't in her room."RB tells Dove.

"She was up there. I didn't see her come down."Dove answered him.

RB mind links Eagle.'Wolfy missing come quickly. '

In no time, Eagle was there. "Where could she have gone. RB listens to the wind. "I think I know where."

Heading to the old den, they could hear howling. The closer they got, the more they could tell it was two different howls.

"I thought you said the den moved. Why is there howling coming from it?" Eagle asked his father.

"I don't know. I know the whole pack moved today. Willy and some warriors are guarding it tonight to protect the newborn pups."RB tells his son.

Soon, they see the front entrance to the den. Wolfy is on her hands and knees howling at the moon. The mother wolf is beside her howling with her. RB and Eagle see Wolfy sit down, and the mother wolf sits beside her. They could hear Wolfy talking, and the mother wolf looked like she was talking back. Coming closer to the den, they were right.Wolfy was talking to the mother wolf, but when the wolf moved her jaw, all RB and Eagle heard was growls and snarls. Wolfy seemed to understand and answered her back. They couldn't believe what they were seeing.

"The time is getting close and see will be of age. I feel this wolf pack has a connection with her that I don't even understand. But then again, she is the chosen one. "RB tells his son.

"I can see it in her eyes, the light that shines it of great kindness and peace. She will be a great warrior to the tribe and bring much protection to her people." Eagle speaks to his father

Suddenly, Wolfy stands up. She sees her father and brother. Mother wolf turns and runs, heading back to her den.

"Father, what am I doing here. I was howling like a wolf. She talked to me, and I could understand everything she said. She warned me of the skin walker and to be careful. What does that mean?"Wolfy asked her father. Just then, she passed out into her father's arms. They took her home and put her to bed. Wolfy didn't wake up til her father kissed her goodnight. Rolling over, she pulled her blanket up, said goodnight, and fell back asleep.
