"Mia!" The Special advisor, Carl, who was Mia's father said as he and his eldest son, Kurt, approached their table. "Why is she here? she should be resting for now." The father asked.
"She's doing okay here, father." Ellen said.
"No,.. Kurt, take her home to rest." He commanded.
"But father, who is going to help me with the gifts? She's here and she also should offer her gifts to the twin princes? Brother Jung can't go because he's a male. And the king already knew that Mia is around. Didn't he?" said Hannah.
"That's right. what will we do now." The father said and suddenly, the chief announcer announced for the offering of gifts.
"You may now present your gifts as families. The Princes will be honoured to receive your gifts." The chief announcer said and each family started preparing their gift.
"It's too late to stop her, you have to let her present the gifts, honey." Their mother said.
"The first chief's family!!" the announcer called out.
"We are always on the first list every year." Ellen said.
"That's because your father is the second person next to the king." the mother said as she tried to clean off the dust that was on Mia's dress. They were handed the gift and soon they left to present the gifts to the two princes.
It is a way of showing honour to the king through the princes. A gift is always presented to the two princes on every year of their birthday and if a family has a daughter, it will be a great honour if the daughter was to present the gifts.
They got to the front of the princes and they bowed.
"These are the daughter of the king's Special advisor." The chief announcer said.
"Ohhh!" The second prince exclaimed. "Ellen, you didn't tell us that you have a sister."
"My apologies, your highness. My sister has not been living with us since she was young. She was taken by my mother's blind cousin and she just arrived yesterday night." she apologized.
"So, what's her name?" Prince Alex asked.
"She's... " Ellen want to answer but Mia interrupted her.
"I'm Mia." she answered.
"So, what's your hobby. What do you like doing most?" prince Alex asked again.
"My hobby is swordsmanship. I like fighting with swords." Mia said. Back when she was a princess, she loved swordsmanship and even had a teacher teaching her.
The prince's brow was full of amazement as he heard this.
"Really! You like swords too? I've discussed it with the Prince Jake to tell the King. I wish girls too can fight with swords but he won't listen." The second prince said sadly.
Prince Jake who had been listening since, lifted his heads to look at the lady.
"Hmmn!" He grinned as he tried to recall a face he knew before. "Have we met before?" he asked.
"I'm afraid not." Mia forcefully answered.
"Really." The prince said. "Aren't you the one that bump into me a while ago? Are you intending to lie so I won't punish you?!" The crown prince said.
"No your highness, she's wrong. She didn't mean to lie." Ellen said as she knelt to the ground, she was trying to defend Mia. "She is afraid that's why.."
Ellen turned to look at Mia who was just standing. "Can't you kneel and beg?!" she said.
"I didn't do anything wrong." Mia silently said to Ellen.
Ellen, seeing that Mia wasn't kneeling, pulled her by the hands for her to kneel and the gift she was holding fell to the ground and the glass shattered.
The broken glass drew everyone's attention on them, including the king and Queen.
"That glass is costly and scarce it take up to three months before it could get here." The special advisor lamented.
"What have you done now." Ellen scorned Mia.
"Call the maids to clear this off." prince Jake said and he turned to look at Mia. "I want another gift from you personally. Come to the palace with your sister by evening tomorrow." The prince commanded.
"Thank you so much for your benevolence, your highness." Ellen said as she stood up. she presented her gift to prince Alex and quickly went to back to her seat, Mia also stood up as she followed her behind. The crowds were looking at her, and some are already scorning her with their devious looks.
"Unmannered Girl." One of the crowd shouted.
"I can't believe she's from the special advisor's household. Then is she his daughter?" another person said.
"Why would such dirty and untrained girl be from their family."
"Don't you hear, the chief announcer said the daughters of the King's advisor." The first person said and they all went silent as their eyes met with the special advisor's eyes.
Mia's father was angry as he felt ridiculed by the others. If not for the king, he would have left the entire place and head back to his house.
"I've told you to let her rest before coming here. Take her home and tell the maids to prepare tea for her." He instructed Kurt.
"Can't she stay here for a little while?" Mia's mother asked.
"Just do as I said!" He shouted angrily and Kurt took Mia away from their father's sight.
On the princes table.
"That's not you brother. Why do you need to challenge her again after you already forgave her. You just spoil our peaceful conversation." Prince Alex said with a frown.
"I don't care what you think, but what I did is normal. Don't you ever preach goodness to me anymore." The prince said.
"Your highness, the crowds are watching!" the chief announcer whispered.
The princes kept mute and they refused to talk with each other.
"Seer!" The king called out for a man. "Is Mia among the brides to be selected?" he asked
"No your highness, it is only her sister." The seer answered.
"I want every of the brides to be in the palace by this afternoon. And since Mia is not among the brides, tell her to follow her sister to the palace. I think I like her." The king said and the seer just smiled and bowed before leaving.
"Yes your highness. I will do so immediately."
