Chapter Nine... The Garden Part One

1158 Words
* Flashback Twelve Years Ago * Today was the beginning of summer and I was so excited. As much as I loved school, I couldn't wait to go to my secret little hideout. It was a beautiful garden hidden away in a cave on the side of the mountain by our family land. I don't know how long it has been there or who even tends to it, but I don't care. It was officially mine. I went there almost every day, but sometimes I was unable to since I had homework and had to help my mom. I never let my parents know about my secret hideaway. They had told me several times through the years that the mountains were off-limits to me. Of course, I never listened and one day I found the beautiful hidden garden and never regretted disobeying my parents. It was my most favorite place to go. I felt so safe there. It was the weirdest feeling to feel at a place I had never been before, but it felt right. Currently, I was at home doing chores and trying my best to finish so I could go to my little slice of heaven. A few of my friends wanted me to go hang out with them, but I just wanted to go to my special place. I wanted to see the flowers. The flowers there were like none I had ever seen in this whole world. There were ones with zebra stripes, there were neon ones, spikey ones, soft ones, fuzzy ones, and even ones with spots, and those were only a few of them. There were so many different kinds I couldn't believe it. Liam, my friend, wanted me to hang with him, but I didn't want to. He was a pain in my side and I just wanted to be left alone. He just pouted and stomped off to his home. I waited until everything was done and then I told my dad that I was going to go hang out with some friends. He told me to be careful and to just have some fun. My mom narrowed her eyes at me and just sighed with frustration, but in the end, she conceded and told me to go. I ran as fast as my feet would take me. I felt free and happy to be heading to my garden. Once I got there and entered the cave something felt off. The aura of the cave felt different, dare I say dangerous, but that couldn't be right. It always felt safe here. I shook off the thoughts and went to my favorite spot. It was near what looked like a door in the mountain. It was so cool looking and I was completely fascinated with it. I would sit there for hours looking at it or running my hands over it. Sometimes I would even find myself talking to it like someone was listening, but that was just a foolish and silly thought. I sat down next to the mountain wall and just sighed contentedly as I held a few flowers in my hand. "Well, today is the beginning of summer break. I will be able to come every day now to visit. This will be the best summer break ever." I said absentmindedly as I stared at the wall and smiled. Yes, I was a strange girl. I found talking to myself comforting. I laid back and pulled a book I had borrowed from the small town library and began reading quietly. I must have fallen asleep because when I opened my eyes it was dark outside. I gasped sharply and hurriedly grabbed my book and jumped up to run home, but I didn't think to look down and I tripped over some pointy rocks and fell, hurting my foot in the process. I couldn't move my foot because it hurt so bad and I had a cut on the side of my leg and it was bleeding a lot. I tried to get the bleeding to stop but it wouldn't. As I was trying to tend to my foot, I noticed my blood began moving slowly towards the side of the mountain that looked like the door. I tilted my head to the side with confusion. How was that even possible? I watched in awe as my blood flowed through the door and started to move in an upward motion. I blinked my eyes a few times to make sure I was not seeing things, but it was really happening. I even tried to pinch myself and well, that hurt too. I watched as the wall began moving slowly and suddenly out of the door came a hand. I screamed out in fear, but suddenly a whole body came out, and I gasped sharply. It was a man. He seemed hesitant about coming through the door. I looked up at him and decided I didn't need to be afraid. I took a few deep breaths and then spoke. "Please, I need help. I hurt myself and I am bleeding a lot." I said starting to slur my words from the loss of so much blood. I felt lightheaded and dizzy. He gasped sharply and rushed over to me. He bent down and examined my leg. "You must... be treated... for this." he forced out, "What is... your name? Mine... is... Garrett." "Addison," I mumbled out slowly with my eyes closed as my head and body started to go limp, "It hurts so badly." I whimpered painfully. "I... will help you, Addison, if you promise me one thing," he said growling as he picked me up and held me on his lap. I hummed in agreement and waited for him to answer. "Please come visit me every day. Can you do that?" he asks cautiously. "Alright. I will. I promise." I whispered out as I opened my eyes and looked at him curiously. I was thinking about how he would help me. Who would he call? "It's settled then. I will help you, but you have to drink this. It might seem unsettling, but it is the only thing that can heal you immediately." he says as he bites down on his wrist. Wait... are those fangs? "Drink." he says sternly as he places his bleeding wrist on my lips. I felt his blood draining into my mouth and instinctively I wanted to spit it out, but when the taste hit me I was perplexed at how sweet it was. I needed more. I drank as much as he would give me until he finally pulled his wrist away chuckling softly. "Greedy little thing aren't you." I blushed deep red as my cheeks heated with embarrassment. "Well, look at your wound. It's all healed," he says smiling. Huh? I looked down and my eyes widened in surprise. He was right. I was completely healed. How was that even possible?
