“We’re here!” Anthony announced from the front seat.
The sound of his voice was enough to jolt Anna awake from her disturbed slumber.
She fell asleep?
Her eyes widened with realization as she tried to take in her surroundings. The car had stopped moving and the trees were now no where in sight. Just a vast space that looked like it could house an entire town and then…a house.
No, calling it a house would be an understatement.
“Welcome home Anna!” Anthony said rather excitedly as he pointed at the castle that took Anna’s breath away.
Breathtaking as it was. It was most definitely not her home. It was her next prison but one she didn’t plan on staying in for long.
Anna had heard of packs that had been around for centuries, they grew so much in number over the years that their pack houses are built as castles and their towns are considered to be cities.
GreyThorn pack must be one of those, funny how she’d never heard the name up until today.
The car door at her side opened, it was unexpected and startled her. An unfamiliar brunette stood at the door, he was tall and had on a stoic expression on his face.
Subconsciously, she turned her head to look at the man next to her.
He didn’t spare her a glance although, all of that anger that he seemed to have harbored towards her was faded away from his expression. His expression was like a blank slate, Anna couldn’t tell what’s the man was feeling.
The door at his side opened too. Anna stepped down from the car the same time he did. Anthony was already next to the brunette man that looked more like a bodyguard with a gloomy expression.
“Welcome to GreyThorn pack house,” Tony announced with an outstretched hand. Anna eyed his hand warily but still took it.
She wasn’t going to do anything that would get a certain person’s attention in as much as she wanted to talk to him.
Anthony seemed extremely satisfied by her decision as he practically hopped away from the car with Anna.
“What do you think?”
“She thinks we’re stuck up rich people,” Kane said from behind them.
He was at her side the next second, his eyes only staying on Anna’s and Anthony’s joined hands for only a few seconds before he turned his gaze away.
“I don’t think you’re stuck up people,” Anna countered in a low voice.
“She doesn’t think we’re stuck up people,” Anthony shrugged with a somewhat smug expression.
“Don’t pay any mind to the grumpy Alpha,”
How could she not?
When he kept looking at her that way.
His eyes looking like they could make her whole body burst into flames.
“He has been planning this for a while and it didn’t go as he wanted it to,”
Anthony laughed.
“This is Yurk, weird name, I know” he pointed at the tall brunette.
“He is going to be in charge of your security from now on, so you don’t have to worry about anything or anything hurting you,”
“Except for when you plan to take what you want?”
Anna didn’t mean for her tone to sound that accusing but she honestly couldn’t help it.. they were being weird, welcoming her, giving her a bodyguard and acting like they didn’t actually bring her here to drain her dry.
“Well there’s that,” Anthony coughed awkwardly.
“Kane?” he nodded at the Alpha, “Anything to say about that?”
“No.” came his curt reply.
They reached the front door of the magnificent pack house and Anna couldn’t help but be awed by how beautiful the design was.
The doors looked like gold carved by hand, carefully crafted carvings of wolves standing behind the One true alpha.
The one known as the first wolf to ever become a leader, a ruler centuries ago, in the time when all werewolves were rouges. He had golden fur and bright red eyes, just like Anna’s. The one thing that showed the similarities between them, both were gifted by the goddess.
Was he from GreyThorn?
If not, why else would he be the person carved into the pack house front doors?
The double doors opened on their own accord or rather, after Anna stepped in, she realized there were two men stationed behind the doors.
The first thing that caught her attention were the pure white marble floors that looked like they’d been scrubbed to perfection, then the chandeliers that hovered above their heads and shimmered with a golden light that made the entire atmosphere almost dreamy. The walls a cream color, everywhere was covered with cream colored walls, vases, both plants and sculptures placed strategically from the beginning to the end of the hall, as far as her eyes could see.
There were frames that occupied the walls, Anna didn’t have the time to take a better look, a woman walked to where they stopped. Her steps slow and graceful, blood red lips stretched into a faint smile. One that Anna could tell was directed at Kane.
“Kane, you’ve returned,” said the young lady who now stood in front of them Her red hair was pulled up into a high ponytail and freckles were dusted on her perfect skin and around her beautiful green eyes. Green but not as mesmerizing as Kane’s. She looked like a woman with authority, even her eyes showed strength...Anna knew immediately that she wasn’t one to be messed with. Who was she?
“Yeah, did you get everything ready?”
“The warlocks are in the back waiting for the Wolf Spirit to be brought to them,”
Warlocks.
A shiver ran down Anna’s spine as she thought back to the horrible experiences she had with warlocks, each one more terrible than the last. Poking and probing and trying everything they could stop break her.
“Good,” Kane nodded. His eyes finally met with Anna’s.
Could he see the fear in hers? Could he see the anger?
Was he going to change his mind?
“Come with me,” he said instead.
Anna didn’t hesitate, she wasn’t going to show any weakness, she wasn’t going to show any hurt and give him exactly what he wants.
She walked with him, Anthony staying back and Anna fighting the urge to ask him to come with them. They walked past a lot of people that have weird stares but still bowed nonetheless, past a lot of rooms that Anna knew she would’ve attempted to explore under different circumstances.
Down a hall that was empty, cold and made her rub her arms against each other for warmth.
“Where are we going?”
“First of all,” he said. His voice echoing across the empty hall.
“You will not speak of this, to anyone,”
Anna’s brows furrowed in confusion.
“You don’t want me to tell anyone we’re mates?”
The corner of his lips twitched like the word alone irritated him.
“Yes Annalisa,”
Anna couldn’t help the wince that came with hearing her name that way. She was no longer in Bullhorn pack but yet it felt that was in that moment.
“I need you to keep this to yourself until I decide what the best option for this will be.”
This?
Their mating bond was reduced to such a lowly word.
“Why don’t you want anyone to know?”
Anna lets out a sad chuckle as she realized the irony of her situation.
“You don’t want anyone to know you killed your own mate just because you want power?”
Kane’s eyes narrowed into slits and he took an abrupt step towards Anna, the sudden movement making Anna’s body act of reflex.
She brought her arms up, shrunk her shoulders and shielded her face from the hit she knew was going to come.
She held in a breath and waited.
“What are you doing?”
He sounded angry, no, he sounded like he was going to explode right that very moment.
“I…” Anna brought her hands down, even more confused than before as their eyes met.
Pure unbridled anger but this time, it didn’t seem to be directed at her.
“Do you think I’m going to hit you?”
It was pure reflex.
For the past four years she’d gotten used to it, that once she said something that seemed out of line, she would be hit…hard.
She would fall to the ground. Sometimes those hits wouldn’t stop until she was buried in a pool of her own blood.
But she always recovers.
“You really think I’m that kind of person?”
“You’ve brought me here to be killed anyways, what difference does it make?” Anna yelled. Hating the way her cheeks heated up with embarrassment in front of Kane.
He wasn’t going to hit her but yet she’d overreacted and made him look like he was about to.
“Be it here or Bullhorn, I don’t really see any difference!”
“I will never forcefully claim you, neither will I ever hurt you, contrary to what I had said!” He said. His searing gaze was proof that he meant every word, the green in his eyes seemed to glow even brighter.
Anna’s knees weakened.
“You will give your gift to me Anna, I will not take it from you.”
“And if I say no?” She said.
“I’ve told you,” he took another step forward, slowly closing the distance between them, taking her breath away the closer he got.
“I won’t have a problem with that,”
He was confident.
Anna was going to destroy that.
