“This is your room…” the red haired woman said.
“And that—” she pointed at the only door in the room, “ –Is the bathroom,”
Anna’s eyes took in her surroundings. It was a big room, bigger than the one she’d been given at Bullhorn. The walls painted a dull pink and the sheets white and unused, a tall brown wardrobe that had drawers beneath and a bedside table with drawers as well.
The room looked rather empty, like no one had ever been in it and it had just been designed for one purpose only.
It looked lifeless, that was the first word that came to mind when she saw it.
“Is there a problem?”
She heard the woman’s voice from behind her, it brought her out of her thoughts and back to reality.
Didn’t matter if the room had any personality or not, it was just her new jail cell.
“No,” Anna shook her head and forced a small smile, “None,”
“Good,” she nodded.
Kane had ordered her to show Anna the room prepared for the wolf spirit. There was a weird expression on her face when she turned to look at Anna, like she didn’t expect someone like her to be the wolf spirit.
The red haired nodded in submission and stretched out a hand in direction.
Anna felt uncomfortable in her presence, she felt the woman’s side glances and occasional glares.
She didn’t like her, that much was obvious.
“The Alpha expects you to be ready by six am sharp tomorrow morning to meet the warlocks,”
She pulled out a pocket watch from her pants.
Weird.
“I’m not sure why he insists on postponing it until tomorrow,” she muttered in a not so low voice.
“I…I need fresh clothes,”
Anna wouldn’t dare ask for food but the least they could do was at least not live her in this tattered state she was in.
All of the clothes she wore in Bullhorn were old and abandoned clothes that the female pack members decided they didn’t want anymore. Though Yaakov had forcefully claimed her and told everyone she was his woman and his to own, the treatment she got from him was vastly different from what one would expect.
“Someone will bring in some clothes for you later, for now…try not to destroy anything…”
The woman’s eyes narrowed condescendingly as she spoke, making Anna feel like a village bumpkin brought to a palace.
“I’m glad this wolf spirit s**t is done and over with,” she said. Again speaking like she was the only person in the room.
“I hope you have a wonderful stay, Wolf Spirit,” there was no hint of warmth in that smile she gave Anna.
Yup.
Anna didn’t like either.
“I hope I do too,” Anna had to grit her teeth to stop herself from saying something even worse. There were a thousand colorful words that came to mind in that moment.
“Hmm,”
The woman left the room and slammed the door shut behind her. Anna breathed in deeply in an attempt to calm herself.
Her mother had taught her breathing exercises when she was younger, it helped whenever she was feeling overwhelmed by everything that came with this gift of hers.
But then again, her mother also sold her out to the Bullhorn pack and left her there to rot.
Anna’s lips pursed and slowly curled downward into a frown. She made her way to the bed and sat.
It was bouncy. Soft. Not familiar. Not home.
At least not yet, soon she would be out of here and have her permanent home.
Anna took her clothes off and walked into the bathroom stark naked.
It was bigger than she expected.
The white marble walls were almost too bright to look at, there was a large tub that sat in the center of the bathroom. Anna could’ve sworn it called her as she tried to recall the last time she had a hot bath, soaked herself deep into something that wasn’t murky cold mud.
She settled for a warm shower instead. There was a towel and a robe, she chose the towel. Fastened it around her chest and used the other to absent mindedly dry her hair and left the bathroom.
She felt more at ease after her shower but that didn’t mean all of her tension had drained away. Her guard was still up.
She was still in unfamiliar territory, one that she might lose her life in if she didn’t think and act fast.
As promised, there was a pile of clothes on the bed that wasn’t there before. A rather large pile.
It looked like they’d just brought a person’s entire wardrobe to her.
“Hi!”
Anna gasped, startled by the sudden voice she heard at her side.
“Sorry, sorry…didn’t mean to scare you,” the young girl said with a chuckle.
She had short her that stopped just below her chin, big green eyes that looked almost identical to Kane’s and the cutest face.
She was almost the same height as Anna, wore a black t-shirt and shorts that stopped at her thighs.
She looked no less that sixteen years old.
Anna could feel power radiating off her though.
Cute but not harmless.
Anna eyed the girl warily, something that had seemed to become a habit.
“Hi,” she laughed awkwardly.
“I’m Diane, and I’m sorry for startling you,”
“I’m Anna,”
“I know!”
Anna’s brows furrowed.
“Ahem! I mean…you’re the carrier of the Wolf Spirit, everyone in the pack knows who you are now,”
She sounded rather excited, she looked like she was only a few seconds away from squealing.
“My older brother had asked me to get you some new clothes, I assumed we’d be the same size so I just ordered everything with my size…”
She took a careful step forward, probably trying to make sure she didn’t scare Anna again.
“I’m Kane’s younger sister,” she said.
“Goddess you have beautiful hair!”
“Thank you,”
Anna had never received a compliment about her hair before. She spent so much of her childhood seeing it as danger to her and her family and spent a lot of time trying to hide it’s true appearance and then hardly ever thinking about it afterwards.
“You’re welcome!” Diane gave a dimpled smile.
“You’re Kane’s sister?”
Diane nodded.
“I know, I’m the alpha’s sister but please just treat me like you would treat any other person, I think we’re going to be really good friends as well!”
“Will that be before or after I’m killed?”
The enthusiasm and color drained from the girl’s face.
“s**t,” Anna cursed, realizing what she’d just done, “Sorry, that was uncalled for.”
“No…it’s fine, it’s better we acknowledge the elephant in the room earlier,” she laughed, awkwardly scratching her head and her gaze shifting to the door.
“I…I’ll leave you to get settled in and maybe we’ll talk tomorrow,” Diane said hurriedly as she made her way to the door.
She smiled at Anna but it didn’t reach her eyes this time. Instead there was guilt in them…or maybe it was something else, Anna couldn’t tell.
As the door closed softly behind Diane, Anna sighed and shook her head.
“I scared her away…” Anna said to no one in particular.
It was happening.
Those pent up emotions were slowly consuming her, she just hoped she would be able to leave this place soon or heavens knows what she would become.
