CHAPTER 3. I AM EXTREMELY POSSESSIVE

2339 Words
(Third Person POV) The next day, Addison stood before Zack’s classroom, eying him from the corner and reminding him to head get his work done and head home with her.  With her hand resting on her waist, she called out to him, “Let’s go home, Zack.” “Hold up,” responded Zack while copying down the last sum from his friend’s notebook. Just when he was finished, he spoke, “You might have to wait longer as I need to turn in everyone’s registers in the staff room.” His friend nabbed him from behind as he assured the guy, “What are you talking about, stupid? I’ll take care of that for you. You can go out to have fun. Why don’t you and Addison try the new café around the second block?” Addison was all smiles watching Zack’s friends teasing him. It was then she saw her friend, Everlyn walking towards her to greet her. Everlyn, a girl with auburn hairs, golden-brown eyes and a height of 6’1 inch was an eye candy to several guys. She, however, appreciated the company of her female friends more, especially Addison. “Are you heading home too?” asked Everlyn with curious eyes. With a jovial smile, Addison responded, “Yes, I am.” Though Everlyn hesitated initially, she mustered up her courage and asked, “Do you want to walk home together then? This particular year, we haven’t spend much time together for as long as I can remember.” Just then Zack arrived at the spot and apologised to Addison for the delay. Hesitating to deny Everlyn’s humble offer, Addison struggled to speak, “Uhh, Actually—” Suddenly realising that Addison began dating Zack Henley in that particular year, Everlyn spoke, “Oh, I just realised that you’ve been accompanying Henley lately.” “Sorry,” uttered Addison with an indication of distress apparent on her face. Everlyn shook her head as she assured her friend, “No, it’s fine. It’s all good since he’s your boyfriend. Obviously, he comes first.” While Zack gaped at Addison’s face with discomfort visible on his face, Addison smiled as she thanked Everlyn for understanding. Just when Henley walked out of the school with Addison, the guys standing beside Everlyn were quick to remark, “Henley’s a lucky man. Addison ‘s a total babe.” While another responded, “Although he’s pretty popular with the ladies, they make a good couple.” With a frown, Everlyn squinted her eyes. She had unwillingly given attention to all the gossip which apparantly compelled her to leave. After having a sip from the cold water bottle, Zack asked Addison, “Are you sure you don’t want to walk home with your friend?” Although she didn’t want to say it to him, she felt guilty for not being able to accompany Everlyn. That’s particularly why she chose to change the course of the conversation rather than confronting him about it.   “Give me a sip,” asked Addison while pointing at the bottle. Just when Addison took the bottle from his hand and took a sip, Zack leaned towards her and placed his hand gently over her shoulder. Since it was a secluded path upon which they were walking, Zack tried to press his lips against her.  However, a loud cry from behind stopped them. It was Zack’s classmate, Norah Williams. She wasn’t just a classmate, but also the girl who was chosen to become Zack’s bride in the future. Their marriage was set up by the adults of both families. Since the arrangement, Norah had dedicated herself to becoming more mature, responsible, elegant and beautiful. The only thing that was left to do for the young lady was to get the attention of the paramour.  With her hazel eyes and blonde locks, she was confident that she would soon get her wish of acquiring Zack granted. After all, her goal in life was to marry Zack. Nothing else seemed to be of importance.  Noah paced to get between them. After interlocking her right arm with Zack’s, the young woman stared Addison down. Meanwhile, Zack tried to ease the tension between them by introducing Norah to his girlfriend, “This is Norah Williams.” Norah elbowed Zack as she intervened, “Sweetheart! Call me sweetheart!” Jokingly, Zack abided and reintroduced the young lady as “sweetheart”. He then pointed at Addison and spoke, “This is Addison Jones, my girlfriend.” “No way,” replied Norah. Zack shook his head as he swore, “I’m not lying!” With a stern gaze, Addison spoke, “Oh, I remember you. We attended the same middle school.” While recalling the incident of being bullied in the middle school during the sports event, she realised Norah was among the children who mocked her for attending the parent-child race without her father. Addison, therefore, unknowingly acted on her prejudice and refrained from continuing the conversation with the conceited lunatic. “Zack, I think you should be with someone who’s more of a ‘cute’ type. That sort of girl will suit you much better,” advised Norah while grinning at Addison. Though Addison remained silent, she was engaged in recounting the events of her middle school and ended up inferring in her head, ‘She’s always been a pain in the ass. Why wouldn’t she leave us alone?” While returning the scathing gaze, Norah made it evident through her face that she despised her. “Notoriously awful, you had a huge reputation for being cold. I can't believe poor Zack would get tricked so easily by a girl like you,” commented Norah while magazine to get disrespectful. “Maybe, you pretend to be nice in front of him, right?” With a gentle smile to showcase how unbothered Addison had been throughout the whole discussion, she spoke, “No, I don’t!” Zack sided with Norah on this one as he said, “I’m glad you noticed. You’re right about her. She’s pretty horrible.” Amused by the remark, Addison responded, “Like you’re the one to talk!” After understanding Zack wanted to date Addison even though she was a little aloof and uncaring of the other people, Norah asked, “Is that what you prefer in women?” Not sure about how to answer the curious Norah’s query, Zack spoke, “Well, I mean, it is a part of what makes her who she is. I particularly don’t have a problem with that.” With peeing at Zack’s face, Addison spoke, “Thank you. I too like everything about you.” She then grabbed Norah by the collar, and made herself extremely clear when she said, “It’s not appreciated when you cling to people or things that aren’t yours.” Due to Addison’s dreadful gaze. Norah backed off and managed to waddle away. Watching poor Norah struggling to even walk, Zack asked Addison, “Did you really have to be this harsh with her?” Rather than responding, Addison instead on knowing, “I wouldn’t act that way, but I sensed through her actions that she likes you. Am I right?”    Not wanting to discuss Norah’s matter, Zack responded in a rude manner, “So what?” Displeased with Norah’s conduct, Addison suggested, “You don’t look at her with a romantic gaze at all. Why don’t you turn her down properly? It would be the nicest thing to do to avoid further hurt.” Unable to respond, Zack simply stood quiet. Addison, however, further continued to discuss Norah, “You can’t dog that, right? I know a part of you cares about her.” “Mmmm,” responded Zack. Enraged by his agreement, Addison ended up hitting the guy on his shoulder with the plastic water bottle. Accordingly, she accused the guy, “You are unable to do so because you’re clinging to your sense of superiority. If that hadn’t been the case, you would’ve been honest with her at the very beginning.” In order to learn more about his broadening interest on the subject, Zack asked, “Why does it bother you so much? Do you want all of me to yourself? Are you jealous?” While gazing at his lips, Addison subdue her wishes and instead spoke, “Don’t misunderstand my intentions, idiot.” After placing his hand upon her cheek, Addison declared, “I’m just possessive.” Almost instantly, Zack found Addison’s lips closing in for a kiss. By shutting his eyes gradually, he gave in to the temptation and let the feelings seep in.  As for Addison, she felt conflicted about how she was feeling for Zack. There was something that was changing with time which she failed to recognise herself. Was she generating feelings for him? “No way!” mumbled Addison to herself.  Although the events of the day distressed her, she managed to complete her homework and prepare for her exam after reaching her home. The next day, Addison went to the same secluded spot on the sports ground to wait for Zack. They both used to eat together during the lunch break. To Addison’s dismay, when Zack arrived at the spot, Norah accompanied him. While interlocking her arms with Zack’s, Norah settled beside him. With Zack in the middle of both the ladies, he definitely felt the tension in the atmosphere. The moment, Addison opened up her lunchbox, Zack was quick to notice the delicacies present in it, “I’m jealous of your lunch. Is your mother chef?” “I don’t mind sharing,” responded Addison. After picking the food with the spoon, she directed it in Zack’s direction to feed it to him. Norah, however, intervened and chomped the food instead. Both of them gaped at one another dumbfounded, and then resumed their conversation. To Norah’s dismay, none of them reacted. She felt as if she didn’t existed, especially when they flirted with one another. When Addison tried to feed Zack again, Norah lost it as she yelled, “What is this? Why are you guys ignoring me? Just cut it out! I’m here too!” Enraged by her nasty behaviour, Addison held the young lady’s jaw and spoke, “You’re the one who needs to cut it out. What the hell are you doing tagging along during our lunch date? Didn’t I warn you before?” Instead of succumbing to her wish, Norah rather spoke, “Shut up! I can see right through your false facade. I bet you don’t even like Zack, you evil succubus.”   Before Addison could respond, Norah continued to speak, “She’s just using you, Zack. By dating you, she wants to climb the social ladder of popularity since you’re famous and beautiful. I know it!” Instead of getting agitated anymore, Addison accepted the vague criticism, “I see that you’re indeed pretty observant.” After finally moving away from Addison, Norah declared while trying to head for the exit, “No matter what happens, I will not give up!’ Not appreciating her rudeness, Addison was quick to remark, “Don’t run away if you’re not giving up.” Zack, on the other hand, chuckled as he notified, “She was scared of you. That’s why she ran away. You become terrifying at times.” Without responding, Addison took her lunch and walked back into the classroom. The lunch break had ended, and it was time for her favourite period, Maths. The moment she settled on her desk, Mister Silas came towards her asking for help, “Could you bring these sheets to the staff room?” It was a stack of several test papers. Without even contemplating the weight of the load, she agreed to help the man.  As they walked through the hallways, Silas kept reminding the children around them to stop running in the hallway. Quietly observing him from the back, Addison couldn’t help but smile sheepishly. Abruptly, Silas broke the ice as he spoke, “I’ve always wanted to warn kids not to run in the hallway. Just how my teachers used to tell me. That’s silly, but I like it.” “No, it’s not! Anyway, why is it that I have to help you with this stack?” asked Addison.  While shifting his glasses properly over his nose, Silas responded, “It is so because it’s hard to ask anybody besides you.” “What am I going to do with you?” spoke Addison while misunderstanding the situation to be a romantic one. “So, where are we taking these?” “To the staff room,” responded Silas. As she entered the place, she realised that they both were alone. Flustered due to the thoughts that were running wild in her head, Addison recognised this as a chance for her to express her feelings for him. She first placed the sheets on the desk and firmed her resolve to ask the man out.  ‘I need to get Mister Silas to see me as a woman even if it’s just a little bit,’ concluded Addison in her head. The moment she tried to tug the hem of his shirt, a delightful and melodious voice made its way into the staff room. When Addison turned around to look at the source, she realised it was Miss Natalie. She was humming while entering the storeroom. Taken in by her charm, Silas stood astounded and just smiled. After almost a minute of staring at the object of his affection, the guy asked Addison, “Wasn’t that the best?” Crushed, Addison didn’t say anything and walked back into the classroom while trying to swallow the hurt that soon dispersed in the form of tears. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ AUTHOR’S NOTE ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Add this book to your library to show love to your author.
