Book One: Chapter 5

2720 Words
Kal emerged from the bathroom and his aroma caused Trinity’s eyes to wander away from the beautiful scenery just outside the window over to where he was standing with just a towel wrapped around his waist. He was busy drying his hair with a smaller towel and didn’t notice her eyes making their way from his head on their way down to his toes. Every muscle was so defined and she couldn’t pull herself away from his sexy body that is until he made a throat clearing sound taking her attention back to his face. “My eyes are up here young lady,” he joked with her. “Sorry,” she replied looking away slightly embarrassed that she had just eye f**ked the poor man. He made his way into the walk in as well not even bothering to shut the door. She was very tempted to go check out what was under the towel but instead turned her gaze back to the forest trying to shake these new feelings from her system. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t seen a man naked before but with Kal it was different. The desires he awoke in her were foreign and she had no control over what the sight of him did to her. He was mesmerizing to her. He made his way out of the closet dressed in a pair of jeans, dark grey T-shirt, and a pair of black chucks. “Are you ready to go my love,” he questioned. There it was again that flutter in her heart when he called her that. She had never experienced being call babe or sweetheart because she was never in one place long enough to form any sort of relationships. It was new and different, but it made her feel a warm feeling deep down inside, perhaps its what “love” felt like. She stood from her seat on the balcony and Kal grabbed her hand, intertwining their fingers, gently guiding her through the building and out the door. She was surprised by how empty the pack house seemed. She remembered people always coming and going from the pack house when she was younger. Perhaps Kal had cleared everyone out as to not overwhelm her. He opened the door for her like a true gentlemen, although she could feel his eyes straight on her a** as he watched her climb in, and then he closed the door. After which he climbed in the driver seat, started the truck, and drove off towards town. He grabbed her hand a few moments after he started driving and rubbed small circles on the back of her hand with his thumb. She relaxed back into the seat and simply enjoyed the views as he drove them away. After finding a parking stop at a local shopping mall they both stepped out of the truck and Kal grabbed her hand once again pulling her close to his side as they made their way inside. They stopped by a coffee place first and he grabbed them each a drink. After handing her a drink he slipped his fingers back between hers, and they started walking around looking in each store to see if there was anything she liked. It wasn’t until she spotted a store with all black shirts and jeans in the display window that she wandered off inside, pulling her hand from his to look through the racks. She had never really gone shopping before. The clothes she wore and had worn over the years were either stolen from a clothes line in the back of a house or a dryer at a laundromat. She looked at the price tag on one item and gasped. She had no idea clothes were so expensive. “Do you like,” he asked pulling the item she was just looking at from the rack. “It’s too expensive. Its just a pair of black jeans I’m sure I can find a cheaper pair elsewhere.” “That’s not what I asked,” he said walking towards her jeans in hand. “Yes,” she shyly admitted. “The fabric feels amazing and they look like they’d fit me well.” “Then we’ll try then on,” he said nudging her to look for more things to try on. She continued walking around the store picking up a thing here and there and handing it back to Kal. She didn’t like the thought of him buying her clothes but knew she wouldn’t be able to leave the store without trying some things on. He stayed right behind her giving her just enough space to look around but not enough to let her wander off. It was as if he was afraid if he lost sight of her for one moment she would disappear. A part of her liked that he didn’t want to leave her side it made her feel safe but her the other part of her, which was so used to being alone at this point, was starting to feel suffocated by his presence already. After trying some things on and letting Kal get a good look at everything, he was very insistent in seeing how everything fit her, and sat outside the dressing room as she tried things on to show him. After which they made their way to the register and she yelped when the cashier announced the total after ringing everything up. Looking up at Kal with distress in her eyes. This was too much and she couldn’t accept it. “Kal, thats too much money. I don’t need that many clothes.” “Non sense besides I owe you since I threw the clothes you were wearing in the trash.” He didn’t listen even though she tried to talk him into putting a few things back and paid for everything anyways. He was quite stubborn and hard headed… just like her. He grabbed the bags and they continued walking around some more grabbing some pretzels to munch on along the way. He pulled her into a shoe store and insisted she get some tennis shoes, boots, and a black pair of chucks to match his. She laughed at the thought of them wearing matching shoes, it was silly, but made her smile. Kal also insisted on getting her a black leather coat because even though it was rare that a werewolf actually got cold he said he wasn’t taking any chances. Once both his hands were full he suggested they head back to the car and find someplace to eat lunch. She of course offered to carry her own bags but he insisted he could handle it. After placing the bags in the trunk he walked over to open the door for her again, not unlocking it until he was next to her. He was a tricky one but ultimately a sweet gentleman and she adored him for it. She started to think of ways to repay him for all his kindness. It was a short ride to the restaurant that he raved was the best in town and that she just had to try while they were in town. It was quite busy so that was a good indication the food must be fairly good. It had been so long since she had actually had a proper meal and in a restaurant no less. Most of her meals came from soup kitchens, stealing from grocery stores, or another packs lands. She looked down at herself feel slightly underdressed as she noticed men in dress shirts/slacks and women in dresses. He squeezed her hand that he grabbed as soon as they were out of the car, letting her know to relax, and silently assuring her she looked great. He gave her a small smirk and wink calming her down. Those dimples of his would be the end of her. A tall blonde hostess showed them the way to a table towards the back and after Trinity took her seat Kal took the one opposite her. He wanted to be right next to her but also couldn’t help but need to look directly into her beautifully green eyes. He ordered some drinks for the two of them and then started with the questions that had been rattling around in his brain ever since he first caught a whiff of her scent. “So where are you from,” he asked nonchalantly. “I was born into the Moon Stone Pack but my parents took me and left when I was around 10.” “Why’s that,” he wonder why they would leave their pack it was against everything in a wolves nature to do such a thing unless there were dire circumstances, his worry for her grew, and he wondered what kind of danger would lead them to leave. “To be honest I don’t know I tried asking multiple times but they would never give me a straight answer. They made sure to teach me about all the dangers or the world, we would spend our days in libraries so they could make sure I was learning what I needed to know to survive in the human world, and then… then they just disappeared.” “Disappeared?” “When I was 15 we were in the woods being chased by something, I’m not quite sure what, but my dad managed to distract him while my mother and I kept running. She pulled me behind some bushes and kissed my forehead before telling me she wishes she had time to explain but she didn’t and that I should run and never stop running” “So you’ve been on your own and on the run, for how long?” “Seven years,” she stated. He sat back against his chair and ran his hands through his thick hair trying to process what he had just told her. Seven years?! She had been all alone for seven years and to loose your parents in such a way. He had lost his father a few years back but he was able to say goodbye to him and process everything. She lost her parents and then spent the next several years running had she even had time to properly process the fact that theres a chance they may be dead. He sat there and wondered what would have become of his poor mate if they had never found each other but more importantly he pondered what was hunting her for so long and he silently vowed to himself no matter what he would keep her safe so she never had to run again. “My name is Julie I’ll be serving you tonight are you guys ready to order,” the waitress appeared snapping Kal from his thoughts. Trinity was just sitting there looking at the menu, eyes wide, and he knew from the look on her face she couldn’t decide what to get. So Kal took charge and ordered several different dishes off the menu claiming she needed to try them all. The waitress inched closer to him leaning over pointing at something on the menu putting her chest on full display. Trinity shifted uncomfortably in her chair. She didn’t like this women being so close and blatantly flirting with Kal in front of her but she didn’t really feel comfortable saying anything in this setting. It wasn’t until she said well let me know if you need anything, emphasizing the last word, and gave Kal a little wink that a small growl escaped Trinity’s precious mouth. “Sorry,” she said covering her mouth realizing she had startled the waitress who gave her an odd look and scurried away. “What was that?” “I believe that was you acting a little jealous my dear,” he replied with a laugh. “Im… I’m not jealous, why would I be jealous,” she replied defensively. “Perhaps because I’m yours and she was attempting, and failing miserably I might add, to steal my attention away from you.” “Your not mine. I just met you. I have no claim on you. I wasn’t jealous,” she stated matter-of-factly. “We are mates my love. You have every claim on me. I am yours My love, forever and always.” Forever and Always?! Those words scared her. She barely knew this man and now was attached to him FOREVER because of a bond which she had no control over. She hated to admit that waitress being so close to him and openly offering herself to him filled her with a small bit of rage, jealousy she guessed. She had never felt that feeling before and it startled not only the waitress but herself. He was hers and she was his, simply put, but it frightened her to her core being tied to a person she knew so little about. Learn more about him her wolf encouraged. “What about you,” the words slipped out quickly almost as if her wolf had pushed them out herself. “What do you mean?” “Well I’m assuming you come from this pack, what about your childhood? Your parents? I told about mine, its only fair,” she asked grabbing a piece of bread from the basket that was on the table when they got there. “Yes I was born into this pack to the alpha and luna of the pack. I have one sister who met her mate a few years ago. He is an Alpha a few states over and she did was right and went to live with him and become his Luna. When my father passed a few years back the title of alpha passed to me since I was his only male heir. I was always meant to be Alpha just happened a lot sooner than I expected,” he explained with a slight sadness behind his voice. “What happened?” She paused realizing how inconsiderate that was of her to ask for details about his fathers death that obviously still upset him to this day. “Sorry that was rude we don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.” “No its fine my dad died with honor doing what he was supposed to be doing which was protecting his pack. A herd of vampires had wandered into our territory and my father and his warriors were trying to keep everyone safe when my dad heard a little girl scream. Running to her aid he got distracted by the little girl who was standing over her severely injured mother. As he was bending down to check her injuries a vampire snuck up behind him, jumping on his back, and sinking his teeth into my fathers neck releasing his poison into his bloodstream. He managed to fight him off just in time for his Beta to show up and rip the guys head off but it was too late for my father.” “I’m so incredibly sorry,” she said reaching across the table to grab his hand. “It was a great loss to our pack but I had enough time to say goodbye to him and we mourned his loss as a pack which helped to ease the pain and tragedy.” “I wish I knew what that was like to have a whole pack behind you. Being alone all these years has been… well lonely,” she admitted shocked that she had actually opened up to him so easy. He was so easy to open up to and she felt nothing but comfort being around him. He seemed genuinely interested in learning about her life and he didn’t judge as most would for being a rogue all those years. There were still doubts in the back of her mind but the more time she spent with Kal the easier it got to ease her worries into submission. Although being with one man for the rest of her life scared the absolute hell out of her she was tired of running and being alone so more than anything she was willing to try. There must be a reason they were fated to be mates.
