Stars POV
“Mate?” I whispered, staring at the man in front of me. He was so tall and handsome and undeniable. I felt my stomach begin to tighten, aching for his touch. I started breathing heavily, my throat constricting. I slowly lifted my hand as he lifted his, staring at our hands. When they touched, it was like sparks were shooting up my arm, leaving my skin tingling.
“Who are you?” He asked, his eyes wide. “You must be one of Avery’s sisters.”
“Star.” My smile was blinding and I felt myself falling for him so quickly. “My name is Star.”
“You’re so…breathtaking.” He sighed. My heartbeat swelled in my ears like the ocean, drowning out the sounds of anything else. My pulse went out of control; this was the most handsome man I had ever seen.
“I could say the same about you.” I said, unable to think clearly. He smiled down at me, his thumb running over my knuckles. My knees began to shake as he leaned down, our lips brushing.
Mate! Mate! Mate! Mate!
Amber was going wild in my head as I melted into this man’s arms, our fingers intertwining. His lips brushed against mine again gently, making my stomach flutter before he pressed them against mine. His hand squeezed mine, his other arm wrapping around me.
“Are we still going to eat?” Avery said from the doorway. Her dress was like mine, except hers was gray and more form fitting. Her eyebrow was raised as she looked between the two of us. I stepped away from Dakota, pulling my hand out of his and placing both of them behind my back.
“Yes, definitely.” I said, blushing. She stared at me, a smirk on her face.
“Let’s go.” We both waved to Dakota and began walking away. There was a smirk on his face as we turned away and he turned another way. He looked so good in a button down shirt and black slacks. His cuffs were pulled up to his elbow, and I couldn’t stop thinking about him as Avery pulled me to the dining hall.
“That was almost really intense.” I mumbled so only she could hear me as we sat with Violet.
His girlfriend caught me and him in the kitchen last night.
My eyebrows shot up and I started choking on my wine, coughing. I held my napkin up to my mouth as I tried clearing my sinus of liquid.
What are you talking about?!
Violet looked between the two of us and rolled her eyes.
I mean we almost had s*x on the kitchen counter and Emily caught us!
My eyes almost popped out of my head in shock as my head rolled back. I almost wanted to scream, but I also wanted to laugh. I just took a drink of my wine after making a face, and Avery giggled.
“Alright you two, what’s going on?” Violet finally joined the conversation, Avery and I giggling at her.
“You have to meet our mate!” Avery whispered, her eyes wandering around the room.
“He’s so dreamy. You’ll love him, Violet.” I said, my thoughts wandering back for a moment. Violets eyes were wide with shock.
“I thought we were rejecting him and leaving?!” She hissed, her brows furrowed. Avery and I shrugged. “What about his girlfriend?!” We shrugged again, giggling. Violet rolled her eyes at us, picking at her plate. I devoured mine; the food has been delicious since we’ve arrived.
“I believe we should talk to the king and queen about the deal and go from there.” Avery said after a while. I nodded in agreement.
“I need to update mom afterwards.” We all nodded at Violets words. Mom was our go to person all the time. She would know what to do in this situation. After we were done eating, we made our way to the kings office. Violet knocked before I grabbed her arm and squeezed.
“He’s in there.” I said, my eyes wide. She shooed my hand off her before opening the door. The king and queen smiled at us, Dakota standing off to the side. I could feel my heart pounding against my chest and knew Avery and Violet felt the same.
“Good evening girls. What can I do for you?” The king said, gesturing for us to sit.
“Good evening sir, good evening your majesty.” We greeted them. The king smiled and the queen blushed and giggled.
“I haven’t been called that for a long time.” She said, her smile dazzling. I smiled back at her, enjoying the happiness radiating from her.
“We were wondering if there was a decision for our proposal?” Avery said, crossing her legs and putting her hands on her knee. The kind and queen blinked in surprise.
“Are you not staying to be with your mate?” All of our eyebrows rose, and I looked between Violet and Avery as they looked at me and each other. Dakota cleared his throat.
“I haven’t had the chance to talk to them about that yet.” He said, looking away. His dad shook his head and clicked his tongue.
“Why don’t you three and my son go have a conversation. When you’re finished, let me know the conclusion and I will let you know my decision.” The king said. He gestured to the door, a twinkle in his eye and a large smile on his face. I looked at Violet, who stood and bowed. Avery and I followed suit, smiling to the queen and taking our leave.
Dakota soon exited the room, smiling at us. He gestured for us to follow him, and I slid Avery a look. She giggled softly, shrugging. We made our way to the gardens and I took a deep breath of the crisp air. Dakota sat on a bench, pulling his slacks up as he sat. He smiled at us, a genuine and beautiful smile.
“Looks like we need to have a conversation.”
