The large black creature reared its head back and looked down at Jasmine. The village and mountain top seemed to be shrinking as the creature looked over them. Even Kevin and Chelsea's screams seemed to fade to a dull echo.
Jasmine couldn't help but stop screaming and look back into the creature's big blue eyes. She watched as its eyes shimmered like a kaleidoscope of colors. Suddenly, she felt a slight head rush and shook her head. Jasmine looked back up at the creature, and it swung its head closer to her, slowly.
"Will you please tell your friends to stop screaming! It's very noisy and loud!"
Jasmine heard a male's voice say inside her head. She stared at the creature in awe and blinked her eyes.
"I am not going to hurt you, just please tell them to stop making so much racket!"
Jasmine realized it was the creature's voice from the pain-stricken look in the creature's eyes, and only she could hear him. Jasmine swallowed hard as she looked back at Kevin and Chelsea.
"Stop, shsh, stop!" said Jasmine, loudly, as she put her hand up.
They stopped screaming and looked at her in fear. She smiled at them and pointed to the creature.
"He isn't going to hurt us, just don't scream anymore,” she said.
Chelsea straightened and looked at her friend concerned.
Had Jassy lost her mind? Chelsea thought to herself.
"What do you mean? How do you know it's a he?" she stammered.
Kevin straightened and looked at Jasmine in question. Jasmine nodded and looked back up at the creature. The creature rolled its eyes and sighed. He laid down and lifted his head.
"Of course not! Two of you are our great descendants and I don't eat humans, blah, nasty, sticky things,” the creature said, in her mind, as he made a face and stuck his long purple tongue out. Jasmine couldn't help but laugh, and the creature looked at her in question.
"Have you ever tasted one?" he asked Jasmine.
"No!" Jasmine laughed, and Kevin and Chelsea stared at her like she was crazy.
"Have you lost your mind? What are you laughing about?" Chelsea asked.
She still didn't dare to move. Kevin looked up at the creature, and he looked back at Kevin. Kevin was amazed by the shimmer that moved across the creature's eyes. He didn't realize that his eyes shimmered too, and he felt a slight head rush, just like Jasmine had. He shook his head and blinked.
"My name is Seth and I assume that you have come to us for counsel on the great war."
Kevin heard the creature in his head, and he stared at Seth in awe.
"You can talk!" Kevin yelled, and Chelsea looked at him.
"What war?" asked Kevin, ignoring Chelsea's stare.
Seth looked at Chelsea and sighed.
"I don't normally do this with humans, but she must be of worth to you both."
Suddenly, Chelsea grabbed her head and yelled. Kevin and Jasmine looked back at her with concern.
"It will be over in a second," Seth said, as he looked at Kevin and Jasmine.
Jasmine turned back to Chelsea, and she was shaking her head.
"Now, since all three of you can hear us,” said Seth.
Chelsea looked at Seth in amazement. She couldn't believe her eyes. Suddenly, a loud screech echoed across the sky. Jasmine, Kevin, and Chelsea jumped and looked up. An enormous dragon-like creature swooped down from the sky and landed near Seth. Jasmine, Kevin, and Chelsea stared at the large, beautiful creature. It was nothing like her mother had described in her journal.
This animal was beautiful and vibrant. The large beast was light blues, purples, and greens that shimmered off of its alligator-like skin. Its neck was long and its head was small, with a short snout. The creature's arms were short with hand-like claws, and its eyes were golden and green, velociraptor-like feet, strong muscular legs, and a long tail. The creature was not aggressive toward the kids at all. It actually moved gently and elegantly, but was curious about the unexpected visitors.
"This is Melina. She is the eldest Ambopteryx Longbrachium to walk the earth," Seth explained, as he bowed to the beast.
Melina looked at Jasmine and bowed her head, and Jasmine bowed back respectfully. Melina turned her attention to Seth.
"She is the one,” they all heard a female's voice say.
Kevin and Chelsea stared at Jasmine, and then they looked back up at the enormous animal.
Melina brought her head down and closer to Jasmine as she looked the girl over. Melina pulled her head back. Jasmine, Kevin and Chelsea all looked at each other.
"What do you mean?" asked Kevin.
Melina didn't say a word. She looked into Jasmine's eyes as her eyes shimmered, and Jasmine's eyes shimmered back. Melina stretched her arm out and gently picked up Jasmine. She then flew up into the sky. Kevin and Chelsea watched in awe as their friend was taken away by the monster.
