School Days

1654 Words
The weeks of school had flown by and the homecoming game and dance were that coming Friday. Joseph, Damian and Mandy had become experts on escaping Haven to be with their friends. They couldn't believe how gullible their parents actually were. On the other hand, Jasmine, Kevin and Chelsea had no problems telling their parents where they were going. They would tell their parents they were going to hang out with their friends and their parents never asked any questions. With the homecoming dance coming up fast, everyone pitched in to help. Students and teachers helped decorate the gymnasium for the dance, and they decorated the bleachers on the football field for the game. The female students were all out shopping for the perfect dress, booking hair appointments and makeover appointments. The male students got their tuxedos and corsages for their dates. Everything seemed to be running smoothly as everyone scurried around to get things perfect. That Thursday, if any student wanted to stay after school and help with the finishing touches, they would earn extra credit towards their worst grade. Joseph, Damian and Mandy used the homecoming game and dance as an excuse to hang out with Jasmine, Kevin and Chelsea. ******************* It was Thursday after school and the whole gang stayed after school. They had all got pretty good grades, so the extra credit was actually a bonus for them. Jasmine was in the gymnasium, standing on a ladder, hanging one of the homecoming banners, when another student approached her. "Jasmine, you are looking pretty as ever,” she heard a boy's voice. Curiously, she turned her head and looked down. Jasmine looked at the boy and rolled her eyes. It was Ryan Kellie. A boy that had a crush on her since the first grade. Jasmine decided to be polite. "Thanks,” she said, and turned back to hanging the banner. "So, um, tomorrow night, if you don't have any plans. Would you like to go to the dance with me?" he asked, nervously, as he looked down at the floor. Jasmine looked at him and sighed. This kid never gave up! She thought to herself. She looked down at him. "I'm sorry. Someone has already asked me and I said yes,” she said, politely. She glanced at him when he didn't say anything. He looked angry, and he glared at her. "You mean that weirdo that follows you around like a lost puppy dog, all the time? You have got to be kidding me!" Ryan sneered, as he crossed his arms over his chest. Jasmine looked at him and her eyebrows shot down in anger. "That's my boyfriend you're talking about!" she said, angrily. There was a warning tone in her voice, and Ryan laughed at her. "That makes you a weirdo too!" he said, and laughed again. Jasmine rolled her eyes at his immaturity. She looked at him and smirked. "I'd rather be a weirdo than a washed up ex-quarterback loser that has been turned down by every girl in this school!" Jasmine teased, as she shrugged her shoulders. Ryan looked at her angrily, and he snatched the banner from her hands. Forcefully, he ripped it in half. "Oops!" he teased, as he let the pieces of the banner fall to the floor. Ryan looked up at her and smirked evilly. Jasmine scoffed as she climbed down the ladder, and she stood in front of him as she put her hands on her hips. "Now I see why you don't have any friends. You act like a baby when you don't get your way!" she snapped, directly. Ryan looked at her angrily and punched her in the shoulder as hard as he could. He screamed out in pain as Jasmine heard his bone snap and pop on impact. Jasmine couldn't help but laugh a little. One of the teachers that had stayed after school with them ran over to Jasmine and Ryan. Joseph and Damian followed. "What happened?" asked the teacher, as he looked at Ryan. Ryan was in tears, holding his mangled hand, and Jasmine shrugged. "He punched me in the shoulder,” she said, as she looked up at the teacher. "So you broke his hand? Nice!" said Damian, as he crossed his arms and grinned at Jasmine, and she shot him an irritated look. "No, he broke his hand when he punched my shoulder," Jasmine said, as she crossed her arms over her chest, and Joseph looked at her in question. How could Ryan have broken his hand by punching her shoulder? he thought to himself. Joseph looked at her shoulder, and it was red. "Are you okay?" Joseph asked Jasmine, as he looked over her shoulder and Jasmine nodded. "How could he have broken his hand on your shoulder?" asked the teacher in disbelief, and Joseph and Jasmine looked at each other. "I don't know,” said Jasmine, as she looked back at the teacher. "Come on, let's go call your parents,” said the teacher, and sighed. Reluctantly, Jasmine and Ryan followed the teacher to the office. Jasmine turned and looked at Joseph with a worried look on her face. He gave her a reassuring look, as if to tell her everything would be okay. The teacher called both of their parents, and they waited silently in the office. The only sound was Ryan sobbing, and after about ten minutes, Anna and Justin walked through the office door. "Jasmine! What happened?" Anna asked, sternly, and Jasmine swallowed hard. She didn't know what her parents were going to do to her when they found out what had happened. "Uh Mr. and Mrs. Hardy, can I speak with you a moment in private?" asked the teacher, as he peered over his glasses at them. "Can I go talk to Joey?" asked Jasmine, nervously. Justin looked at the teacher, and then he looked at her and nodded. The teacher led Anna and Justin to the back office. "What happened?" asked Justin, and the teacher sighed. "Your daughter claimed that Mr. Kellie broke his hand by punching his shoulder,” explained the teacher, as he let out a heavy sigh. Anna and Justin looked at each other, worried, and the teacher put up his hand. "Before you say anything, I want you to know I believe her. I watched the whole thing. Now, I know who you are, Mrs. Hardy, and I believe that maybe Jasmine takes after you,” the teacher explained. Anna smiled and shook her head. "That's impossible. The doctors confirmed her blood work to be normal,” said Justin, and the teacher shook his head in disbelief. "Okay. I think you are mistaken, but I will be keeping an eye on Jasmine from here on out along with her cousin, Mr. Woods,” warned the teacher, and Anna and Justin nodded. On the way out of the office, Anna and Justin ran into Ryan's parents. They apologized and told them that they would cover any medical costs. Jasmine's parents told Ryan's parents that Jasmine had metal in her shoulder from falling off a roof when she was younger. The Kellie's thanked Anna and Justin and went into the office where Ryan was waiting for them. Anna saw her daughter talking to a very handsome boy. "That must be Joey," Anna said, quietly, as she leaned into Justin. Justin smiled and put his arm around his wife's waist. "Do you remember us at that age?" he chuckled, and she looked up at him and smiled. "Yes. We hated each other," Anna laughed, and he tightened his grip on her waist. "Yeah, well, I remember things a little differently,” he said, as he looked into her eyes. "Yeah?" "Yeah, you were at this party, in a smoking-hot black dress, and we actually were nice to each other," Justin said matter-of-factly. Anna smirked at him. She remembered running into him at Xander's party that night, but he had run off with that girl. "I also remember you running off with your date,” she said, as she looked up at him. Justin hung his head in defeat, and Anna laughed as she patted his head. "It's all in the past, and you still got what you wanted!" she said, as she turned and faced him. He looked at her with love in his eyes. "And what's that?" he asked, curiously, as he rubbed his arms up her arms, and she smiled a wide smile. "The girl at the end of the story!" Anna said with a wide grin. He chuckled and kissed her. "Come on, let's go home,” whispered Anna, when the kiss ended, and Justin nodded as he looked up at his daughter. "Jasmine, honey, time to go!" called Justin. Jasmine looked at her father and nodded. "See you tomorrow at school,” whispered Joseph. Jasmine smiled and nodded shyly. Suddenly, Joseph leaned into Jasmine's cheek and kissed her. Jasmine blushed deep red and smiled shyly. Joseph grinned at her and she slowly turned from him. Anna and Justin smiled. "Kev, you riding home with us?" called Jasmine, as she headed towards her parents. She quickly turned and looked at Joseph one last time, and he smiled shyly at her. Kevin walked up to her, holding hands with Mandy. "See you tomorrow,” said Kevin, and let go of her hand. "Bye,” said Mandy, as she waved at Jasmine, and she walked over to Joseph. "He's cute!" said Anna, as Jasmine reached her. Jasmine shook her head and blushed again. Come on mom! Why does she have to be so embarrassing? Jasmine thought, as she felt her cheeks get hot. "Mom! Shut up!" whispered Jasmine in embarrassment. "Aww, you're blushing!" said Anna, as she giggled. "Oh my god, mom! Just go!" said Jasmine, mortified as she pushed her mother out of the school, and Justin and Kevin grinned, as they followed them.
