Chapter 6 Waking up from a deep slumber, Scarlet found herself in the secret pack house. She felt a throbbing pain in her head. Her body was weak, and a shriek came out of her lips as she fell from the bed. The door burst open and entered Xavier. He helped her get up from the floor and sat on the bed. “How are you feeling? You fainted out earlier,” Xavier asked her in a deep tone. Through his tone, Scarlet could sense that something was wrong. “My head still hurts. I don’t know what’s happening to me.” Scarlet rubbed her forehead. “I’ll get you some medication from downstairs. Stay still.” Xavier said, and Scarlet was surprised to hear the care in his voice. Is he worried? Scarlet thought. She saw him leaving and shook her head violently. Scarlet threw this idea out of her mind as fast as it came in, “I must be crazy to think something like this,” Xavier returned with the medicine and handed it to Scarlet. His clenched jaw and fists exemplified something wrong, and the memories slowly hit her. Scarlet got up from the bed abruptly; her eyes widened, and a look of despair was evident. “Xavier, the pack . . . it’s under threat. Why are we here? Where are our parents?” She asked, her voice quivering. Xavier was sitting on the sofa, his long legs on the floor. He was reticent, and Scarlet could not read him for the first time in years. She walked to him and asked once again, to which he replied, “I don’t know,” Scarlet frowned, listening to him, “What do you mean you don’t know?” She jerked Xavier’s shoulder to get him out of his trance. “Xavier, it’s our pack, parents, family, I’m asking you. What do you mean you don’t know?!” She yelled at him. Xavier's jaw clenched; he grasped her wrist violently and made her sit on the sofa he was once sitting on. Scarlet eyes widened at his action, his face getting dangerously close to her, jaw clenched, an enraged look evident on his face. “You think I’m having a picnic here? I don’t know what is happening. Do you understand?!” He yelled and freed her from his grip. He turned his back on her, and there was a moment of silence between them. Xavier sighed loudly and turned to face her. “I need you to calm down and listen to me,” He told her, and Scarlet nodded. Xavier told her everything that happened after she fainted. “Gamma trapped me here, and there is nothing I can do for my pack.” Xavier punched a hole in the wall, and Scarlet got up from the couch. “How can they do this to us? It’s our pack; what’s the use of all the training if they will only protect us and not vice versa? Are we just a showcase trophy?” Scarlet ran her hand through her hair in frustration. “Gamma told you to stay here and listened to his orders. Who knows what is happening over there? I want to be with Mom and Dad. I’m not going to sit here and do nothing,” Scarlet argued. Xavier's eyes flared, listening to her, “I stayed here for you. Gamma told me to take care of you. Our parents made this mutual decision, and we can not disobey them. When have we ever, Scarlet?” He asked her. Scarlet felt helpless, but there was nothing she could do after listening to this. Defying her parent's orders will only cause more crises, so she does what she always does. Listen to her parent's demands and sit in the room in eerie silence. A few minutes passed, and none of them spoke a word. “Do you think we’ll win this battle?” Scarlet asked, breaking the silence between them. Xavier was quiet; after waiting a couple more minutes, she gave up on an answer from him and prayed silently. The bloody hounds have been after their pack for a very long time. One of the reasons why the two Alpha’s decided to merge their packs was to defeat them. With the packs combined Crimson Stone pack became a threat to the other packs. Who knew the Bloody hounds were planning a demonic attack in the dark against them? Scarlet found him staring at her with an intense look. “How did you know?” He asked, and Scarlet furrowed. “What?” She asked. Xavier walked closer to her, “How did you know the pack was in danger? That the people are asking for help?” He asked, and Scarlet licked her dried lips. “What type of interrogation is this? We are werewolves. We have super hearing. Don’t ask ridiculous questions.” She brushed him off. “Our abilities are limited because we haven’t shifted yet. I could hear the Delta and Gamma coming, but you could hear people crying. It was like you were there. How did you do that?” Xavier asked. Scarlet gaped at him for a solid minute. “I have no idea what ridiculous things you are uttering. I sensed the hazard, and I’m sure you did too. Stop making something out of nothing and focus on what is essential here.” Xavier gave her a sharp look but decided to let it go. The door burst abruptly, and a heavily injured Delta came into view. He leaned on Coach Hilmand, who was heavily damaged. Scarlet and Xavier ran and helped them settle in. Looking at their state, they got scared of the pack’s condition. “Coach, Delta,” Xavier said. Hilmand signaled Xavier to keep quiet. He told them both to listen to him carefully. “There is a chance the pack will not be able to survive.” He uttered, and both of them got stunned listening to him. Their breath hitched as he further spoke, “The Alphas told us to take you both out of this city. When things get a little stable, we will call you back.” “Not this again, Coach. Where are the Alphas? Are they safe? Luna’s?” Asked Xavier. “They are fine. Listen to me; the pack is now standing on a loose thread. The Alphas are trying to control the situation, but a significant threat is coming, and we can’t compromise your safety. For now, both of you need to leave. Your safety is our main priority.” “I don’t understand. How come things suddenly turn into this?” Scarlet voice cracked. “There is no time to cry, Scarlet. Do you want to do something for the pack? Then do not let any harm come to you both. Protect each other. You both are still kids and haven’t shifted yet, so even if you stay here, you aren’t any use to the pack. The enemies are after you. You are their main target, so use your brain for once and listen to what I’m telling you.” “Hilmand is right. I know you have questions, but this is a crucial time, so please trust the Alphas and do what they are telling you to do. We do not have much time to get you out of here.” Delta spoke. “I’m not leaving. Take Scarlet; I’m staying.” Xavier said in a determined tone. Hilmand grabbed him by his collar. “Do not make me beat the s**t out of you, boy. Do as we are telling you to do, or else I can use force.” He uttered in a threatening tone. “Where are the Alphas sending us?” Asked Scarlet in a low tone. Xavier's eyes widened, listening to her, “I cannot believe you are listening to them; I didn’t think of you as a coward.” “She’s not a coward. She’s making a sensible decision, unlike you.” The Delta turned towards Scarlet. “I'm glad that you are acting sensibly.” He told her and could hear Xavier groaning in the back. “We will call you back when the situation improves, hopefully before you both shift. Things will get better here, Xavier. It always has; I need you to put some trust in us.” Xavier was quiet for a couple of seconds. Feeling dejected, he unclenched his fists and looked at Scarlet; her eyes fixed on him. “Where have you decided to send us?” Xavier asked in his deep voice. Hilmand looked at the Delta before speaking, “Among the humans.”
