Laughter filled the room as I took the lead and tried to dodge the things his animated racer threw at me. By some miracle, they all missed me.
“Ugh! You’re cheating somehow! I just know it!” Axel teased.
“Beginner’s luck!” I snapped back as I animatedly moved with my controller as my racer almost went careening off a ledge.
I shot up out of my chair when I passed the finish line first and did a little victory dance. It was the first time, out of the dozen or so races we had played, I’d gotten first place.
